Wait a minute... I KNOW HOW TO READ!

Hardcore Roundup... YEE HAWWW!

And we are off and the early commentary seems sort of unnatural from Stevens and Riley for me... like ...

Stevens: "These two actually have quite the history! All summer, Annie had tried to get a hold of the hardcore title, but the extremely dominant reign of Jay Dawg just wouldn't let her break his streak! She's not the only one as current ICTV champion Frost and Michael Craven in his gimmick as Ash Ketchum also tried to stop!"

Riley: "Remember when Ash ate that urinal cake... ha ha ha!"

Stevens: "Nonetheless... Jay Dawg may have had a dominant run... but as evident on last Smarkdown and this year Clusterfuck... he is considerably rusty in a wrestling match."

A whole lot of the phrasing seems pretty awkward. I helpful hint I've been using is to make sure you read the commentary tracks you lay down out loud to make sure they don't come out this way. Make a few changes to something like, "Jay Dawg might have had one dominant run... but he's having a bit of trouble shaking off the ring rust since his return as you all saw at Clusterfuck.

SHWOOOSH WHACK!!!

The 'Swoosh' seems to deaden the whack here.

Anyway, the action is really good once it all goes to the outside with Jay using Annie's attack to escape a crossface chickenwing and the spinkick to Annie is really well written. Jay Dawg really gets put over here as he basically kicks the tar out of Stryke and Annie all by his lonesome. The T-Bone into the crowd is just awesome and this is rapidly becoming a way cool wrestling-hardcore hybrid. The bong thing worked really well for me ... which is odd since I usually don't like it when wrestlers do stuff like that but this really worked for me. Stryke as the non hardcore guy in the match provides a really nice anchor for JD and Annie to work with. The sequences here click like gangbusters and I really dug the finish. This is really good work.

Memphis Seven vs. LDPWC

I think Judge and I broke out every Memphis wrestling cliche' we could think of for this bad boy. I was really happy with the finished product. Although we worked some pretty good Riley jokes in there I think this was my favorite commentary bit...

“This is ridiculous! Fasaki and The Judge are using that rope illegally and Kivell could not be any more clueless if he was Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick.”

But thats me.

Tom vs. Bo

What else can you really do facing a guy after he's had a heart attack but beat the hell out of him? Still managed to make Bo look brave and Flesher look like a jerk... so mission accomplished.

Bo goes bye

I'm not overly familiar with Bo, but it always sucks when someone goes away. The promo was just fucking awesome in a sweet, sad way and I dug that. I would have wished for a happier ending and all but it's still a nice bit of work.

Mak vs Craven vs Foog

What does PWI-Show mean anyway? Seriously I must have missed that one. Anyway, the three way sequences to start rock the party that rocks the party and all that good stuff.

“Smart move by Fugue there, as his little alliance is on shaky ground. No need to fight over the pin in an elimination match up!”

Yer damn right!

And then they break out just about every Memphis segment Judge and I didn't use and god do I mark for that stuff. When do we go to Texas so we can all use Iron Claws and act like the Freebirds?

S....

W...

O...

= (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)!!!!

Nice match up... I fully endorse it. Three really strong matches already and a great Bo promo and this show is shaping up as awesome. Fear it.

Frost vs CIA

Sweet sweet match as Frost plays Hossmaster Deluxe and rips CIA's shoulder out of joint like a bastard as CIA sticks and moves like a pro. You know, sometimes I think Frost takes a little too much of the offense in a match, but this match was just perfect as CIA is despirately trying to hit that one big move to pull out the match while Frost just grinds him down into a nub. The earlier escape from the cobra clutch playing into the finish is brilliant and all things to all men. I have nothing that could improve this thing.

I love this match, I love this show! Picking a match of the night out of this puppy is like impossible in my opinion. Good work by all of those that did their thing ... this is the SWF.

I don’t think this will be as in depth as usual, but I’ll do my best to throw up some comments and hope more follow.

Stryke vs. JD vs. Annie

-I found it amusing that you assumed there was an opening promo, because there usually is one. Good job in getting right to the intros and using interspersed commentary to set things up. Good job in establishing the characters and getting them over in this part too. I often harp on people using smarky terms and must once again as you talk about JD ‘jobbing’ a few times in the match. Basically, if it’s a smart term that guys like JR and King don’t use then you shouldn’t have Stevens and Riley using it. You could use the commentary more fully in analysis and play by play but do a good job in getting match elements over while establishing a certain banter and character interplay between Riley and Mark. The bong spot was funny, especially with Riley mentioning that JD has a way of inventing new weapons out of everything right beforehand and the toker’s etiquette he shows to Annie. Although having him stop for a smoke really breaks up the match flow and just seems silly. Overall, a really solid hardcore style match with great use of weapon spots and sick bumps. You play the three characters off of each other well and have good interaction there too. The finish is a little awkward with JD stupidly letting Annie squeak out the win. It’s good to let JD get his heat back a bit with hitting a move on Stryke post match, but then I think Stryke winds up coming off a bit too weak.

Mental and Ejiro vs. LDP and Wild Child

-You know I love the Memphis, so plus on all those spots. Although a couple things, like tossing off a hair vs. hair match as an unused punishment and the cheeky pulling down the straps spot, seem like you were shoving it in there just because it was Memphis. Good use of the commentary throughout especially making jokes that were specific to the match and wrestlers and not just firing off funny bits like some do. Some awkward syntax and run on sentences chop up what needs to be a smoother match flow, some glaring typos in there too. Good working of the headlock to start, match builds nicely overall from the start. Detailed descriptions of moves and transitions throughout. Playing hide the tag rope = (Y). Nice use of the classic tag formula, but I think the sequence on Wildchild leading to the hot tag to LDP could have been longer and more embellished to heighten tension. Remember the purpose of the beat down sequence is to make the crowd think the face is dead and then go bonkers when he does make the tag. Working some false tags would have been good. I know it’s Memphis but building to the power of the piledriver and its sheer awesomeness in Memphis would have helped to add fire to the end.

Flesher vs. Bo

-The whole affair felt very rushed and you certainly had the word limit to slowly setup and payoff the angle and storyline a bit more fully. Both characters come off marvelously with Flesher’s character played up just right in forcing the default win to draw Bo even that much more sympathy heat and make him a credible mega-face in this situation considering he just came off of killing Thugg at the last ppv. Tom bringing up Andy Kaufman’s wrestling history in Memphis is gold. Having the wife and kid at ringside is a little too cheesy. Bo’s shooting needs some outside narrative to set it off. I’ve been so warped by Vince Russo I didn’t know if everything Bo was saying was really a shoot or a worked shoot. Hell, I don’t even know if Bo really did have a heart attack or this truly is an angle. I’m thinking in a real situation that Flesher would have pulled off of Bo and if not Riley and Mark would have rushed the ring. It plays like a worked shoot and I only mention it, as I’m unsure of what Bo’s intentions here are. Of course, that doesn’t matter. If it’s played well and ropes the reader (or viewer in a real life case) in then it doesn’t matter. I was certainly intrigued by the angle and that’s all that’s needed.

Bo Promo

-You were really starting to impress me, Bo, with some top quality work. I was quite underwelmed by your last run, but you were producing nice matches and angles this time around. You shouldn’t need to go fishing for compliments and it kind of undercuts what people might say when you do. I’m still not sure how I feel about this angle and development overall. However, I can’t deny the tense emotion and genuine love for the SWF and wiliness to try to craft something powerful and different that Bo showed here. I give you all the dap in the world and wish you luck in future ventures.

Mak vs. Craven vs. Fugue

-Awkward transition from what just happened, but then again there’s no way Mak could have known what Bo was doing so no slight against him there. Good intros to get the characters over and establish clear face/heel lines. I think the Craven character is still a bit of an enigma as knowing what to do with, but Mak does well here in just focusing on Craven the wrestler and letting his character connotation kind of find itself. Although, I have to note that Ash hasn’t been winning a lot since the heel turn and I’m very interested to see how he’s writing himself in his own matches. I don’t get the PWI-Show shouting either. The banana joke at the beginning is a little too much, but the rest of the commentary is really solid in tying with the narrative action and being significantly used. Your match construction is really good, how you play the elimination and the Fugue/Craven alliance. Noting that they shouldn’t fight over a pinfall in an elimination match is very good. Just a really great match with good descriptions and transitions, hot spots, hot build, hot finish. Hold onto that US belt as long as you can Mak, because I don’t want to face you for the ICTV.

Frost vs. CIA

-I had the idea for the opener and thought to do the spot to the stairs. From there I had the notion to do a match that completely centered on working the shoulder. I had never done a match that employed such fierce single body part psychology and wanted to try it. I hope it came off well and would like comments on how it came across, especially from Danny. I thank Ejiro for his major positive comments. As far as Frost seeming to control most matches; that’s the nature of the beast. Frost is a monster heel and it’s his job to control most of the match with the underdog face persevering against dire odds (although, of course, they can’t gain the win with me writing it). It’s classical match construction. If Frost ever turns face you’ll see a definite switch in my construction and offensive work. I also always try to do my best to put my opponent over and give them significant offensive segments.

Solid show match wise. With the power of Bo’s promo I think the lack of other promos actually fits well as it really sets his off and gives it more weight while also giving the overall show a somber tone. I hate promo heavy shows anyway. As long as people are doing what they need to do in their matches to get storylines over, it’s fine. I would like to see a bit of a return to the standard pre-match interview like I did with Frost and Tom on the last show. It’s simple, effective and not done much here. The match writing at this time is some of the best I have ever seen in the SWF and we’ll just a few key storylines and writer’s stepping up away from being the best we’ve ever been. Then again I’ve only been around for a year, so what can I say of the past.

Never again is what you swore the time before...

JD GETS HARDCORE

--I'm pretty certain this is JD's match. If it's Annie's, I apologize for my assumption. He's done a fine job of getting himself back into the picture without disrupting Annie and Judge's storyline, and for that I commend him. Annie and Judge are now set up for one big ol' blow-off, and I'd love to see a heavily stipulated hardcore match within the next couple weeks to send this one home. JD jobs, but by dominating, and he's in fine form; soon enough he could feasibly be back up in the ICTV/World reign that he was at when he left. The match opens with a real solid setup of history and potential match-ups; I was hyped for JD/Judge afterward, which is cool considering they've never been in the fed together till now. Psychology in a hardcore match is something I admire deeply, and part of why I've liked Judge's reign so much; JD one-ups most affairs here by making his shoulder vulnerable and selling it pretty consistently throughout, though there are some slip-ups, mostly with the big piledriver on Stryke. The bong gag was funny, but like Frost I was confused as to why JD'd take a hit in the middle of the match. This match has the feel of a brutal, drunken brawl, with Stryke providing the technical foundation that keeps some of the thinner spots together. A bit spotty, but very fun, and a good, exciting opener. A few more and JD will be back in top form.

JUDJIRO

--We now have one hell of a hot match set up between a modest crew of middle-weights: Judge/Ejiro vs. Mak/CIA for next week, and I couldn't be happier.

Onto the match itself: the Ejiro/Wildchild history is played up and pays off nicely in the classic crotch-shot opener, and I like how Judge and Pete are sort of set up as opposing generals of this match, keeping their teams in order and doing the management (tripping Judge, stealing the tag rope). WC tagging off to Pete as soon as he can after the initial clubberin' is nice--we get the sense that WC knows he bit off more than he can chew, and it feels like a mature decision for a rookie, and WC looks smart as a result. I always mark when someone remembers to write Pete's trademark overhand punches, cause they be sweet. The spinebuster/heel kick was was convoluted, and while I'm aware that high-flyin' is Wildchild's style, it might be wise to occasionally ground him. I know this is the M7 match, but as a personal comment to WC, incorporating a *few* more basics into the routine might be helpful as you move further up the card. Love the highspot mania, though, and the moonsault press that almost pins Ejiro is played out really nicely.

I'm way down with the continuous southern tag style, with Pete getting cut off at every opportunity. However, the Mysterio style frankensteiner leading into the hot tag comes off as pretty darn contrived, and I think WC, straps down or not, would have been better off going for an impact move, like a dropkick or crossbody. If you want to get the guy down and make the tag, you want to blast him out of the way and get your ass out of there, even if you are a show-off. WC played it smart in the beginning; you'd think he'd do it again. The piledriver worked as an ending not because of Memphis, but because Judge was getting his ass handed to him; it was easy to tell that, without Ejiro's chain-shot, he was toast. He slaps on a quick, potent move, hits it, and since Pete's already hurt from the chain, he stays down. I like that, and I like it a LOT more than the conventional "foreign object, roll over for the pin" since the guy getting the pin takes an active role in the finish. Fun little match that speaks of great potential for this new team--I'd love to see these cocky kids get in a real battle of one-upmanship between each other, and I'd also mark if the chain sticks around till Ejiro can get a little comeuppance. Simple story threads do ya good.

Too tired to say more. I'll be back tomorrow.

I was having mixed feelings about the Bong spot myself... in the end I figured it would look best in this match, which will probably be forgotten fairly soon. As for the arm psychology, I think I undersold it due to mostly facing lightweight characters... so although my arm may have been hurting, it was still strong enough to lift them. Maybe that's a little unfair... I dunno.

It's good to see I can still write, although it is evident I need to touch up on some of my "Wordy Genius" ;)

I appreciate the comments, and will take many of them into consideration for my next battle. I did have to job that match though, seeing as I don't really have the motivation to go for the hardcore title anymore... but don't worry Judge... I'll hurt you in a regular match. :boxing:

As for other stuff on the show.

Mak... Your match like your one with Danny Williams last week was both entertaining and had some solid wrestling. I personally disliked the finish, but I'm not fully aware of any storyline involved, so it might be your reasoning. The little SWO union was good, and the mentioning of the piledriver was alright, I meant to do something like that in my match, but switched it to a tombstone instead. I didn't like the banana peel too much, but I just had a bong in my match, so meh. A solid match and to piss off Frost... ditch that title and go for the ICTV!!!

Frost... I'll comment on your match this weekend, as I need to read it first, but gotta work now.

Bo... it's sad to see you go, but at least you went over right and put over someone... although Tom Flesher never really needed a rub from Bo.

I haven't read the tag match yet either, so comments there on the weekend as well.

Later folks... see you in a couple of days

Straight from K-bank's Moneybag... It's on Lockdown!

By: Kel "K-bank" Thomas

Okay folks you won't believe the day I've had and nor should you as this is just a column and I could be lying. I slept until 8AM, took a Calc test on stuff that would make you want to kill yourselves, you [bleep]ing Liberal Arts major. Kidding, kidding. Had classes and then I studied some more, so therefore I must be an engineer, which means my workload is greater than yours and just to clear things up, I DO SHOWER! To make up for this gross injustice I think you all should check out My Amazon.com Wish List~! and buy me something. I'd really like the new Scott Keefe book or you could by me another copy of mine. BUY THE BOOK DAMMIT!

Sadly with the recent boom in Junior League talent, Alex Zenon, has decided to retire. The kid could flat out wrestler, but his latest run was hampered by Nathan Kibagami's sudden retiring in the beginning of what looked to be a hot feud. He was a great... well good... maybe okay is the better term. Yeah, he was an okay guy and he should do well with the book for Crimson.

K-bank letterbag: This Lockdowns chat question comes from Janus who asks... (7:21pm) (Janus) "Does Thoth get paid to do those shows?" Sadly Thoth had not been getting paid for his spectacular rants, but in the new golden age of the SWF, he gets mad loot in the form of donations to the board, which he swears he doesn't use on new video games and japanese anime. But after the recent influx, he got that new SNK online game... hmm... things to ponder people. But remember if you do turn in money, Derek, will do an impression of your chosing! Send that money and support Thoth's habits NOW!

Only in the SWF: Could a man that has worked as hard as Perfect Bo be given the boot after what most consider a nice PPV match. But thats SWF logic for ya. He goes over HvilleThugg, but they job him out and then decide to fire him, just so they can hire a developmental kid named Aaron Carpenter. The kids good, he was trained by Mark Stevens after all, but this kinda sucks for Bo. We'll see how his last match under contract plays out.

Tonight: Frost defends his ICTV gold against CIA and I have to question whether they'll pull the trigger on the CIA push tonight. He's fairly over, and with him and Franics feuding with Frost and Flesher in the tag division an ICTV win could stir things up. It seems like both members of "International Incident", remember you heard it here first, are receiving strong pushes, so a win ain't too far out there.

Segment 1

WE ARE LIIIIIIVE from the sold out Pyramid, in Memphis Tennessee. The birthplace of stalling heels and near the Tennessee Titans, who have Eddie George, who's from Philly, which is where I'm from. Six degrees of K-Bank (WHOO!). We've got the ICTV and US titles on the line tonight, but first...

Triple threat for the #1 Contender to the Hardcore Title: Annie E. vs. Jay Dawg vs. STEEEEE-RYKE

Annie/JD has history and JD/Stryke has C-Fuck history so that's where we stand. Stryke nearly gets the jobber treatment, but thankfully he gets a full entrance. They start with an Annie sneak bokken attack, which Jd dodges and then goes after Stryke. But you can't avoid Annie forever and she blasts him with the stick, not to be confused with THE STICK~! The faces double team and get a double clothesline, plus a Stryke dropkick that nearly sends JD to the outside. Stryke cures that problem with a slingshot crossbody to JD who's on the apron. And this match is on the outside maybe a minute in. Face miscommunicae leads to a Stryking headache for Stryke... but Annie stays in control, clearly working the shoulder over. JD takes control with a rib breaker on the guardrail to Annie and a T-Bone to Stryke. And I'm wondering when they just get to the plunder and stuff. JD eats pole, no not that you sick freeeeeaaaaaks, and here comes the plunder. Annie, the little cock..err... move tease, stops her Angel dive, and JD gains control again. Man this is a back and forth triple threat. JD scores a weederette?! Hah~! That fire extinguisher spot is a pretty fun TWO count! Light tube garbage and stuff. Then the faces turn on each other. Stryke eats a superkick for a LOOOONG TWO! But comes back with a Gutbuster and cradle, in that order for two! If this was a Mak Francis match that might have been the finish as all the guy seems to do recently is get rollups. JD blades and eats that swank Fireman's carry thingamagiggy, plus a sleeperdrop for TWO! If Stryke was going to win this match that would have been the finish so count him out. Mui Thai, correct me if the spelling's off, roundhouse into a STEEL~! chair, not to be confused with the Aluminium one down Stryker. Then JD no sells at bokken shot, about time someone put that women in her place, and still hits the Tombstone~! Annie does some more going after the shoulder for the Triple C, but they do some back and forth! Annie sets him up... GOOD MORNING! DAY-ah damnit you're more of a tease than my highschool girlfriend was. More shoulder stuff. Love that psych~! even if JD is half selling, but JD counters into the German suplex of unending neck dropping death... and it gets Annie the pin over Stryke at whatever time my VCR said! Stars are for sissy's and my momma ain't raise no sissy!

That was quite the little match and kept the live crowd hot. Spot selling from JD took away a little, but he's got an excuse with that extended time off because of conflicts with his AA meetings. So JD does the job here to probably move up the card and Stryke came out on the short end of the stick, while Annie went over and into what should be a PPV match against Mental. CC has a little while to plan this one out and I expect a good stip.

Segment 2

Tag team contest scheduled for one fall: Juice and Ruler vs. Longdogger Pete and Wildchild

Ejiro and Pete have some bad blood from the JL and most recently onSmarkdown! where Fasaki hit him with a chain. As a punishment for being tossed two and three in C-Fuck these two M7ers got put together as a tag team. What a punishment INDEED! I hate goddamn bait a switches normally, but since King did it... I love it. Pete and Wildchild have been tossed together by a mutual hatred for Ejiro and those are the facts ma'am.

Ejiro bitches about facing Wildchild, but Judge bends him over knee and gives him a spanking, clearing up that tempertantrum... well not literally, but FIGURATIVELY! So it's Ejiro and Wildchild to start. Faces learn this and learn it well... handshakes = kicks to the jimmies. Handshakes BAD! Asskicking GOOD! Side headlock into a hair pull snapmare grounds Wildchild and Ejiro sits on it, but Wildchild comes back with some face paced action that takes too much time to write down. Suffice to say, Wildchild flip flops around the ring and Judge trips him up to save Ejiro's ass. The heels work the Bahama bomber over in the corner and use quick tags to establish there team work... even if they are cheating! Cheat 2 Win~! Not everyone can BE Eddie but we can all aspire to BE LIKE EDDIE~! Cause Eddie is Eddie and not... whoops wrong recapper. Mental charges and gets tripped by Pete! Parity! We can planely see just who is the ring general of each team as Judge and the Doggah are the vets trying to help out the rooks. Pete's in and he's tearing it up. Judge goes down, but Ejiro tags! Manhatten(SUCKS PHILLY RULES!) drop followed by a Samoan drop from LDP to Ejiro with love gets TWO! Meanwhile Mental's muse, alliteration is your friend folks, comes to him and he steals the TAG ROPE!! So SO nice~! WC tags back in for what can only be a chance to play Ricky Morton. Solid double team from the faces with a spinning wheel kick plus one MAIN EVENT... uh... this IS Pete... MID-CARD SPINEBUSTER~! Stop with the offense and get with the Mortoning. WildChild gets a rolling senton and standing moonsault for a LONG TWOOOOOOOO! Hah, they're playing hide the tag ropet, which is TOO cool for words... actually I just negated that by typing this, so anyways, WC is officially YOUR bumpie in peril! Pete storms the ring but Kivell holds him back and WildChild takes more abuse. And more abuse. AND more abuse! Tease, tease, tease! I didn't know they were like Annie. They cut off the ring and do other good stuff, but let's get too the Hot tag already... god! THERE IT IS! THE STRAPS ARE DOWN~!! In a somewhat contrived spot WC gets a hurricanrana... as a move to get the hot tag... um he just got choked out and beat pillar to post for about four or five minutes and he can hit a springboard hurricanrana like it was nothing. Oh well at least he sells it like he's DED afterward, before making THE one and only HOT TAG! And EL ES LA CASA EN FUEGO~! POR FAVOR, QUE HORA ES? It's time to bump off overhand rights! Pete gets the tag rope and Riley nearly has a SOARGASM, TM Xstasy, while Wildchild helps clean house! Kivell moves him out and LDP goes for the Clogger, but Ejiro NAILS him with the CHAIN O' DOOM~! TWICE~! and Judgeykins gets the win on a piledriver at what time my VCR says. If I were to give this match a star rating that mean I'd have to stop being lazy so...

------------------------

Commercial Break

------------------------

The correct team went over to build up Mak and CIA for a tag title rematch. This was a pretty solid tag, but the face in peril dragged some because Wildchild didn't even look like he was going to get a tag until that out of nowhere Franksteiner. If he had gotten a tag but the ref was distracted it could have gone a long way in establishing his 'FIP' status. Ejiro and Judge got some real crowd heat, not only because they're M7, but they really might just be Justice and Rule.

Segment 3

Tom... He's a three time US champ, a LHW champ, an ICTV and Tag team champ, the Superbowl champ, Stanley Cup champ, your champ, my champ, and the 1999 Tri-State Fair Wasabi Eating Contest Champ. He's not just good, he's *superior.*... Flesher vs. Perfect B.O.

Flesher hams it up as we enter the ring and like any good heel, he takes pots shots at Memphis and stuff. Swank~! Well I guess Bo is going down for the count in ring as they're putting over the heart palpitations and his possible death. Bo comes out and shows the heart of Rocky Balboa, as his kid and wife watch from ringside seats? Please thats too much! This ain't Behind the Mat! Bo eats suplexes out the ass, culminating in a Backdrop DRIVAHHHHHH that causes the ref to call the match, as if this could even be called that. Good emotion... no substance. It was too fast to even check my VCR and snowflake wise it wasn't really a match.

Now Mark Stevens and Bobby Riley are talking as Bo makes his farewell speech. I could paraphase but that wouldn't be respectful to this guy that has given his soul for the company. Suffice to say Bo's family is the reason he keeps going and at the end he falls to the mat.

-----------------------

Commercial Break

-----------------------

The match was what it was and it puts Flesher over nicely although I'm not sure he needs a rub from anyone in the fed. A suprisingly good send off for Bo and despite the fact that he only came back for a few months I really dug the Bo character this time around. The only words for it are classy. But when you get a shot at young talent like a "Picture Perfect" Aaron Carpenter, you have to take a chance and suffer the loss of one of the old guard to sign him, because down the line he could be drawing TONS more money than Bo is right now.

Elimination Threeway for the SWF US Title: Mak&Cheese Francis(SWF US champeen) vs. Fugue vs. Michael Craven... Some more Michigan man sex

Maybe I'll do this one later...

------------------------

Commercial Break

------------------------

This too...

One fall contest for the SWF ICTV Title: Robert Jackson "Hey I'm a poet and didn't know it" Frost (SWF ICTV champeen) vs. Hardly a Candanian Intelligence Angent

It'll get done before my match...

Okay, I just need to ask, given the comments. If you were given the situation that Bo gave me... wife and kids at ringside, Bo just had a heart attack, sprung on me on Sunday night...

What would YOU have done? I KNOW the match sucked and was a little cheesy. That's because I was wrestling a man who just had a heart attack. What the fuck can he possibly do to fight back? I mean, a heart attack isn't exactly a stiff kick in the crotch. Yes, I probably could have further developed the squash, but there's no way I could have credibly made it anything BUT a squash.

As for Tom getting the rub he didn't need, well, that's probably because the whole thing was set up on the fly. I was given a retiremen scenario by Bo, and I complied, because Bo deserves to go out the way Bo wants to go out.

So I'm sorry the match sucked. You can all stop saying so now.

By the way, Tom's match sucked.

Kidding. I actually thought it was really good for what it was. It wasn't an epic match, but it was a well-executed angle, and it came across as such.

It only feels a little weird because the beginning of Bo's promo suggests that it was a hard-fought, drawn-out match. You took the right approach, though.

I guess I can't win...

I listen to people say I should try to throw in some more pedestrian stuff... so I do. And my match doesn't get picked... and people assume that I wrote a bunch of, QUOTE-UNQUOTE™, contrived spots anyway.

*sigh*

I hear that Wildchild. The two spots Judge and I used to highlight your style (the frankensteiner and the leg lariat heart attack) got picked on as being contrived. Using the frankensteiner in transition was basically to work in the unbelievable spot of the match that Wildchild always tries to pull off. It's just the way your character wrestles. I think of it this way... Wildchild hits a plancha just as easily as Ejiro puts on an armbar and thats the way he is.

Edwin - The frankensteiner when used to drive someone strait down on their head can sure be more impactful than a crossbody or a dropkick... and I figured that it would be plenty to keep Judge down long enough for Wildchild to tag out.

All the teases for the hot tag that some people suggested we use just wouldn't have worked with the word limit put on the match. Otherwise there wouldn't be time to get Wildchild really in trouble long enough for him to be forced to tag out.

Maybe even easier; I don't think many people properly appreciate the fact that WC's pre-wrestling background included being a circus acrobat. A lot of the things that I do with WC will come across as unbelievable, because it's probably not conceiveable that Joe Blow off the street could do it. WC is not Joe Blow, and I have yet to write him doing anything that exceeds the physical limits of the human body.

But you're right; I should probably write some more actual wrestling sequences, and I will somewhat; just don't expect to see it particularly often. I think that any significant wrestling from WC should be reserved for a feud, and I haven't even decided what I want to do with WC yet...

And for fuck's sake, let me have some fun with my character now and then! You guys have your "Mall Brawls" and "Border Runs" and "Escape from Alcatraz" matches, and I have my complicated high spots.

How 'bout a compromise: I'll cut down my "contrived" high spots to PPV only, if I never have to wrestle in some corny gimmick match.

Wildchild-I'm guessing it's not so much the contrived spots holding you up as perhaps the setup and excution. And I'm sure there are other little elements as well. You should ask your marker for some comments next time or someone who gives detailed comments on here like myself or Edwin would be more than happy to look over a match for you.

Tom-I agree with Edwin that you did the best you could with what you had. My suggestion was not to do a different match, but just take what you did do and embellish the descriptions even more. Just go completely over the top and make it dramatic as possible. The only other idea would be to try to hold off the hear attack for a little later in the match, but then it might seem a little contrived and odd, having it hit him right off the bat is probably the best way to go.

Mak-You better review my match, face!

Tom, no offense my boy. I'm just saying the fed's top heel doesn't need a rub. Not saying anything about it being a bad job or anything.

As for Wildchild... the problem with a spot machine is that they get boring quickly. It's not just high flyers, some wrestlers like Tazz for example just do suplexes. By all means do your abnormal stuff, but at the same time, don't rely on the acrobats to make the move spectacular... stick to your timing and your psychology. It makes a world of difference.

Frost sadly I did finish up a review for your match AND mine, but the board ate it... so I'll do yours again and post it later.
