I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I left off Wonder Years because I

felt it was more Dramedy than sit-com...

Simpsons is a Prime Time animated series but we all know that the Flintstones owns all.

Simpsons will always be a sitcom in many peoples eyes. Most people stopped looking at them as an animated show years ago, even though they are.

1) Seinfeld (At least once per show, I laughed out loud.)

 

2) The Wonder Years ( This show really touched me, as it felt so much like my life, I never missed it, and still love to watch it to this day.)

 

3) The Andy Griffth Show (Still stands the test of time to this day, in showing that a wholesome show can still be awesome.)

 

4) Sport's Night (Does this one count? It's one of the greatest things I've ever watched period, have it be TV, film, anything.)

 

5) All In the Family (I wish we had stuff like this around today. It held nothing back, and was truly emotional at times.

 

6) Cheers (To me it was like two different shows. Pre-Kirstie, and Post-Kirstie, and I loved both era's.)

 

7) I Love Lucy (I can't leave this off, so it MUST be listed.)

I can't believe this has made nobody's list, seeing it's considered the best British sitcom of all time, and (in my opinion) British comedy is better than American comedy.

 

Actually, there's no British sitcoms on this list that I have noticed. How....strange.

these are personal favorites, i make no claim of objectivity.

 

1. fawlty towers

2. the simpsons

3. south park (if the simpsons counts, so does this)

4. the cosby show

5. the larry sanders show

 

in general, i hate sitcoms and i think the format is on its last legs. i like what fox is doing with freeing up sitcoms to be shot on film, freeing it up from that "3-camera studio in front of an audience" atmosphere and going for more subtle & deft humor (like bernie mac, which is amazingly good), or stuff that's just completely over the top (like malcom in the middle).
