Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted February 24, 2003 What I'm interested in knowing is why is the price of a movie ticket going up so high? I mean, how can the upkeep from people sitting in a dark room starring at a screen go from $3.00 when I was a little kid to $8.50 now. I understand that movies are costing more and more to produce (The Batman movie from 1997 cost MORE than NASA's Mars rover project that same year!) so I assume the burden falls on the theatres. I'm not sure of the exact inner workings of how cash goes from theatres to the actual movie's producers but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay $8.50 to see a Rob Schneider film. Anyone know the particulars? Maybe this advertising stuff actually helps keep costs down significantly.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted February 24, 2003 Dude, instead of seeing a Rob Schneider movie, punch yourself in the junk. It's more entertaining, and won't hurt as much. Anyway, I go to the movies a lot. I have found a way around the excessive and outrageous concession stand prices (wear a hooded sweatshirt, have a bag of candy in the hand pocket, keep the same cup as I had last time, and get a free refill of soda). I have a fake student ID to save a whopping 2 dollars. The commercial thing isn't as easy to get around, however. Once I sit down, I don't like getting up, so I suffer through them. I agree with the fact that the Coke, Mt. Dew, Marines, Ford, Toyota, XM Radio service, plus the usual "Let's all go to the lobby, and piss our money away" jingle, can all go without us missing them. The movie previews must stay, though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted February 24, 2003 You know, more of you should try sneaking into movies. If you've got a big multiplex deal you go to, go watch the movie you're actually paying for early on a saturday or sunday or something, and just walk into a different theater when it's over. I've NEVER been asked to show a ticket stub. It's really easy to watch like three movies for the price of one. It's a good way to kill time.

As for the haircut analogy, I'd either put up or piss off, not launch a stupid lawsuit. Where will this end? People suing over advertisements at sporting events because they were distracted by ad signs? What I do is buy a ticket, go for a walk (or something) for 15 minutes and then go in. My previous job we were pretting kind to people bringing in outside food. The only exceptions were cans bottles and prepared food (pizza, chinese food, etc). To me it would be like taking a six-pack into your local bar. Don't like the concession prices, then eat beforehand. That's my opinion...

To me it would be more like bringing a bottle of wine to a resteraunt. But I agree about eating food before and also the point about not bringing hot food. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 24, 2003 lol -- just read my post again. I don't drink beer or go to bars. Here's one that fits my living habits. It'd be like taking a PS2 into an arcade...

But I don't feel right paying almost 10 bucks for a medium popcorn and a large soda, so fuck them. I've only been caught once, because the bag fell out of my pocket. -AoO- Definetly. My record is 4. I had the day off of work, I paid for Fast and Furious, but saw Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park III, and something else.
