Paul O/ Hogan

I just wrote and posted this on kayfabememories message board, but I thought I'd share it here as well:

I was watching the buildup-the blow off of this feud, and I can easily see why it was such a success.

The build up involving a missed phone call (which admittedly I don't quite fully understand) Then on Adrian Adonis' "Flower Shop" Hogan accepts a match vs. Bundy/ Studd, but Orndorff screams "No!" and demands the match in two weeks, 1st he wants to show the World what Mr. Wonderful can do, so he books Himself and Hogan vs. moondogs for the next week.

Paul O dominates the match vs. moondogs, never tags out.

The following week Studd/ Bundy are in the ring awaiting the Heroes, and the camera pans to Hogan/ Paul O bickering in the locker room, with Paul acting uptight, (perhaps nervous or distraught over selling out his friend secretly)

Real American hits and Paul O and Hogan walk out, but Hogan darts in front of Orndorff on the way down the aisle, and Mr. Wonderful seems unamused.

During the early stages of the match, Paul O tries to slam John Studd, and fails, minutes later Hogan slams Studd effortlessly, and goes on a posing spree, no doubt annoying Orndorff since he was shown up once again. A little bit later, Hogan is accidentally thrown into Orndorff and Paul O hits the floor hurt.

Finally Bundy and Studd hammer Hogan into the ground, and the ref gets knocked down. The match is over, but Paul remains on the apron, leery to run in. Finally he chases Studd and Bundy away, and Helps Hogan to his feet, and *bam* clothesline, *PILEDRIVER* and Hulk is dead. Bundy and Studd return to the ring to finish Hogan off, but Spivey, Rotondo and Tonga Kid make the save.

Adrian Adonis then joins Studd/Bundy/ and heenan in celebration as they all chant "1derful!" over and over.

This led to tons of bouts with Hogan/ Orndorff including The Big Event. Finally Jan. 87 SNME Hogan/Paul O are set to battle in a cage! Paul and heenan are interviewed and Paul is pacing wildly, and heenan does all the talking. Paul O walks to the ring side to "Real American" (A fact that becomes important later)

Hogan cuts an awesome promo at this time, growling “Wonderful” under his breath before launching into his promo saying “The steel cage is the most brutal arena or human competition…it is the LAST resort man!”

So the match itself sees Danny Davis come down to ringside to be a 2nd ref (alongside Joey Morella) a move that doesn’t sit well with Vince on commentary. The bout features a back and forth battle, with both men hitting simultaneous clotheslines on each other. The two dazed competitors then each climb up one side of the cage, and both hit the floor at almost the same time. One ref declares Hogan the winner, one declares Paul O the winner. “Real American” (both men’s music) plays as the officials try to sort it out. Eventually the match restarts and Hogan basically whips Paul O for the remainder of the bout. A bloody Paul Orndorff is barely able to climb toward the door as Hogan climbs over the cage to victory. Paul meekly crawls out the door, seconds to late.

All in all an AWESOME angle, and feud in general!

Your thoughts?

In my opinion, Hogan's greatest feud ever, even moreso than Savage, because of the sheer hatred involved. The Savage/Hogan feud was more dramatical, with Elizabeth being involved, but when it came down to pure HATE, this feud was all about that. It was awesome...

Actually, alot of fans did side with Orndorff. Get the tape of The Big Event, that crowd is much more even than they'd ever admit to.

Even though it was easy to see coming,I jumped up from my seat when Orndorff threw that clothesline.

I didn't like that cage match so much though. I despised the "escape from the cage" stipulation. But the feud itself was good.
