Guest Brian Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 If they really go to work, they can do it in four. But three is not enough. Because they really have a situation set-up and if they blow that, it's over. They can come up with a lot of good montages and tales of the tape will be in Angle's favor (more titles, more prestige in amateur wrestling). But this is a corner they need to turn.
Guest Anglesault Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 There's a chance. 3 weeks of montages on both Raw and Smackdown, talking about it during other peoples matches, 30 minutes of screentime a week. That's enough. No it's not. Fans DO have memories. Not long term, but they can remember the last two months. Basically, waiting til the eleventh hour saves the feud from the "Total and absolute failure" bin, but not much more than that. It's supposed to be a big world title feud. Waiting that long to get moving helps no one. It doesn't help Angle, it doesn't help Brock, it doesn't help the company. Doing this shit until four weeks in, and then picking up with three weeks in seriously damages a feud. I'm asking you, what feud was botched, bumbled, fucked, messed up and almost ruined countless times for almost two months, then saved and turned into a great feud with three shows to go? Yes, a good feud CAN be built in three weeks (That's what Rock/Jericho got going into No Mercy, right?) But a) I'm not sure about three SHOWS, and b) That don't have to do damage control for a lousy first month and a half.
Guest Anglesault Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Even if Brock beats Team Angle every week for the next 4 weeks, nothing can be worse than "Lotion Boy" Jericho walking HHH's dog and indirectly causing it to be run over and insighting the anger of HHH. This is worse than that for two HUGE reasons. a) At least SOME of Jericho and Stephanie's evil plans worked out (Not necessarily physical, but psychological) Brock has foiled Angle and Heyman every week. and b) No one had any hope for HHH/Jericho. Lesnar/Angle had promise.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 It's not damage control. The first 2, 3 months they've been establishing Brock as being stronger than Angle. The next 2, 3 weeks they can establish that the hero has fallen - that he may not be able to beat Angle with the injury. The last show they can establish that Brock never had a chance in the first place and that angle was just screwin with him - making Brock overconfident, etc. so there would be no chance that he could win at WM. For the 3 weeks up to they could hype up the similarities and differences of Kurt and Brock, the strategies going into the match - they have enough footage to make a meaningful montage.
Guest Brian Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Well, I still think that if they change direction with the feud like I said earlier and portray Angle as a smarter guy who was trying to hard to compete with Brock's physical aspects, they could pull it off if they do everything right in the next four weeks. That means Brock gets almost no offense on Angle (maybe a little reversal before Angle takes over) and Heyman needs to be sacrificed shortly before the show. It also means Angle has to be an evil genius and Brock needs to just get killed, stretchered out, his knee just totally wrecked. Angle has to be smart and ruthless, cunning in every situation and confrontation. He has to be assured but portray that little hint, that knowledge of what Brock can do, but be confident and avoid it. And he has to break out the accomplishments, and realize that he has the experience that Brock doesn't, that he can beat him on the mat because he is the goddamn best mat worker ever to be in the business and because he has those Olympic gold medals. Brock was far too chicken to even try to get them, he came to the WWE to get Angle and he didn't think that one through just like he never thinks anything through. Brains over muscle.
Guest Anglesault Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 The last show they can establish that Brock never had a chance in the first place and that angle was just screwin with him - making Brock overconfident, etc. so there would be no chance that he could win at WM. That makes no sense. Angle voluntarily got his knee shattered and beat up week after week to make Brock think he had it in the bag? A little far fetched. In fact, fucking stupid as hell. Risk serious injury (and in fact getting one) by offering yourself up to a monster so you can prove some point in the last week that could have been done the first?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 He would have no chance IN THE RING. Angle, olympic gold medalist, 3 time WWE champion, KOTR, blah blah blah. He knew he would have to face Brock at WM - he knew that brock could maybe take him in the ring with the right amount of training and preparation. So if it meant taking a belly to belly occasionally to look weak so he could keep the title - his gold - then so be it. Kurt getting his knees slammed against the pole was a warning sign - he never expected it.
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Come on, this feud is nothing compare to the way Jericho was treated on last year's Mania, Angle hasn't picked up any dog shit yet but i understand for AS to be worried if Brock goes over Angle @ mania b/c it would really hurt Angle's credibility.
