Guest alkeiper Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I know I've said this before, but I don't see the point to it. Boxing HAS one world heavyweight champion. His name is Lennox Lewis. He won the WBA, WBC, and IBF championships. He's the linear champion. Since winning those championships, he hasn't been defeated. How hard is it to just call Lewis the champion. Even if you hate him, the "winning the championship by beating the champion" system is the best we can hope for.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Lennox Lewis is a tall ass bastard. He knows how to use his reach and is a skilled boxer. I'm not saying Lewis is unbeatable because I enjoyed watching his head bounce off the canvas like a superball when he fought Rahman, but the chances of Jones beating him are very slim. Lewis is a bigger and better fighter than Ruiz. Oh please. Talk about a fluke champion. Lewis soundly destroyed him in the rematch. If they fought ten more times, Lewis would win EVERY time. Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I know that Lewis has the liner title but still it's not right having TWO world titles....They really need to unify that title and just have ONE championship...

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I think Holyfield/Tyson III would be a HUGE draw if not purely on the basis of the Circus appeal of that match...No one will expect an classic scientific battle but people will love it like Hogan/Rock was... I just wish they would finally unify both titles and make ONE world title...No other organizations or fucking magazine bullshit...Have either the two champs straight up fight or have an 8 man Tourny over A year... Lewis Tyson Bird Kilitchsko (The good one) Klitchsko (The Lesser) Jones Jr. Holyfield Ruiz Have this bracket Holyfield Klitchsko (Good One) Tyson Ruiz Klitcsko (Lesser one) Lewis Bird Jones Have equal payment of the first round losers and winners.. $10 Million for the losers of 1st round...$15 Million for the winners... Have The four Matches aired on PPV...No HBO/Showtime crap... Have the first round begin Early 2004 and finish by May. Have legitimate Random drawings for Match dates...All Events held in 4 different Venues (Ceasers, MGM, Pyramid and ???). Start second round in August and that should conclued in Early October... Have the Finals In March in Madison Square Garden...Unify the titles permantly...Make alot of money...Sell the Pre-lims fighters and get them exposure...Ban Don King and Arum and might as well ban Vince McMahon just in cast from ringside. It seems Failproof if you put enough resources and neogotations into it... If this happens, I will seriously give you $1,000, shave my head, and get my asshole pierced. It's a non-issue. The powers that be will NEVER agree to link all the belts together into one sanctioning body. It will not happen. Ever. Not ever, ever, ever. It is a pipe dream. Everyone knows Lewis is the best heavyweight around. There's no disputing that because no one's beat him since he got on top. He'd crush Jones, and he'd crush Tyson a second time. Personally, the fight I want to see is Tyson/Byrd, if only to see Mike knock that cock-eyed fuck into retirement. Byrd's a chickenshit fighter. I can't stand him. He does his turtle impression the whole fight, doesn't have any power, gets smoked when he gets hit hard, and fights dirty. He sucks. Paragon, a good example of a successful fighter that moved up in weight class would be current Showtime commentator, Bobby Czyz. If memory serves, he started as a welterweight and ended a successful career as a heavy. And now, the Klitschko brothers. Vitali is the older, larger one, but isn't as good as his younger, smaller brother Wladimir. W. Klitschko: Good V. Klitschko: Not as good
Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Maybe but Boxing should just do to revive interest in the sport again...
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 4, 2003 The only thing that can do that is new good fighters. Tyson will be a draw until he's hopelessly washed up like every other boxer that ends up crippled and penniless. The thing is though, is that drawing power isn't necessarily a concern when speaking about good fights. Hell, the Ring Magazine fight of the year last year was between some everyday joe and another fighter people know, but isn't a real superstar or anything. Boxing PPVs still completely destroy wrestling in terms of money made, too, so that's not a problem. There's so much money in boxing that it's coming out everyone's ears. It's not an issue like it is with a televised weekly program like wrestling. Sure, it's nice to see a big match between two big stars, but it's not always a huge deal if they aren't. The everyday joe, Mickey Ward was in a couple FOTYCs last year. One against Emmanuel Burton, and the winner against Arturo Gatti. The rematch against Gatti was closer than the score would show. He was in that fight the whole way through, just managed to lose almost every round. His fight with Johnny Tapia rocked, too. Let me tell you, Irish Mickey Ward is no hotshot. He's just a ballsy fighter that usually has good fights. In a nutshell, drawing power is nice to have if you're a promoter, but not necessary at all if you're a fan. Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Yes, But boxing needs to too help his image and sell itself as a sport not a circus...

Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted March 5, 2003 I'm not disputing the fact that Rahman's a fluke, but I still enjoyed watching Lennox getting knocked out.

No doubt...if anyone needed to be knocked down a level it was Lewis at that exact time. Now someone else needs to do the same thing.
