The draft

It should be really good TV, providing we don't find out whats going to happen before hand.

I wonder how long it will take, and if they'll go down to doing people like Spike and Hurricane, or if they'll just do the top 10 guys on TV and announce the rest later.

I was just thinking about the split myself and thought of something:  What better way to bring back injured stars like Benoit, resignings like Eddy, or new talent like Rey?  I have a feeling that Monday might be really good.

I have a bad feeling that SmackDown this week is just going to be ignored.  Normally, I wouldn't care, but since I'll be there, I'm sort of pissed.

Thats a good point. I wonder if they'll mention Benoit, and if they do, if he'll show up?

Hopefully it means more wrestling, less Steph on Smackdown.

Raw could either be REALLY good, or it could REALLY suck.  Here's hoping that they keep the actually Draft short, and use it as the 20 minute promo.  And fill the rest of the show with,  you know, wrestling.

I really want to see who Lesnar-mania runs wild on this time.  Maybe they'll feed him the Godfather.  He's always good for a squash.

I'm just hoping for a title match, although I doubt HHH will even wrestle.  Dammit, my 7th show and still I've never seen a WWF title match.  All I've ever gotten in Rock vs. RVD for the WCW belt.

If you want to see WWF title matches, go to a house show.  I saw Austin v. Angle at one, and it was awesome.

I've been to 4 house shows:

1st one - Hogan is AWOL champ

2nd one - title vacant

3rd one - Rock vs. Undertaker (Taker loses belt on Raw the week before)

4th one- HHH/Road Dogg vs. Rock/Kane (HHH is champ)

The Raw I went to in the fall, Austin/Booker T vs. Angle/Undertaker (Austin is champ)

This Raw is right near me (State College, PA) and I don't have tickets.  That blows.

We've had a few title matches here.  For example:

HHH vs Test (November 7, 1999)- Shane McMahon as ref, Test was over

HHH vs Chris Jericho (April 15 or maybe 17, 2000)-Jericho "wins" the belt but Hebner reverses it

And some memorable moments:

DX impersonates the Nation of Domination (June 1998)

The Undertaker/Kane "reunion" and the Royal Rumble drawing that ended up with Steve Austin beating the crap out of everyone (both in January 1998)

And a personal memory for me.  September 1996 they had a Superstars taping/house show.  Someone a couple rows in front of me had a sign that said "ECW" and I thought "What the #### is ECW?"

I hope they take up the entire two hours and draft every superstar from Stone Cold right down to Crash.  Hopefully injured guys like Chris Benoit and Rhyno and Mike Awesome will be there as well as a lot of the Alliance and developmental talent.

I think the next few months will shape up because they'll probably end up bringing in a bunch of wildcard guys over time.

Even if the storylines don't improve, it's a GREAT sign to see that the WWF is actually calling up its OVW and HWA talents.  Before Lesnar, I think the last OVW/HWA talent to be brought in was Kurt Angle himself.  (I'm not counting Bull Buchanan or anyone else that had been at the WWF level before)

Next weeks Raw should be great, and I have high hopes for this weeks SmackDown too. Hopefully they'll build the HHH-Jericho rivalry a bit more, you can have the nWo sucking up to Vince and trying to take The Rock and Hogan out. Heyman as Lesnar's manager is wicked, so he'll probably destroy a few more people as well. Skits with people concerned about the split, similar to the Matt Hardy-Lita situation, which was really well done. Wow! Things should be pretty cool.

I'm a big fan of pro sports drafts so this is really exciting for me. I personally hope that they take the time and draft everyone on the roster from Rock to Spike. I hope they have people that are injured and new wrestlers in the draft as well too. I was really excited to see Lesnar last night, it's that kind of new blood that going to make the split really exciting. I'm wondering how they are going to do the split without bruising some egos. That's another part of what's going to make it exciting to me though. Hopefully they'll break up some tag teams as well. The Hardys especially. They could really shine like that I believe.

I think they may do the first ten or so wrestlers in a big angle then the rest will  probably be picked during the show in small vignettes. With Flair and Vince picking them or wrestlers giving their reactions o who picked them.

Hopefully Raw doesn't turn into a long ass draft ie. it takes up the whole show. I like goodhelmet's idea. I think it would be smart to throw Benoit's name in there. It's a draft, so if the WWF signed a guy like Rey Mistero Jr., put him in too. Make it feel like guys who don't even work there want in.

Guest teke184

I don't think that Rey Misterio or other wrestlers who are supposedly unsigned will be draftable.  I think they'll be treated as free agents that both sides will try to woo after the draft is finished.

Do you realize if they did that it could end up run way too long and really piss off the people who paid money to see it?  I'd like to guys like Funaki and Stasiak drafted on-air, too, but not on Raw ... it would kill the show.

They'd be better served to draft the low-level wrestlers on Heat in between the matches.  This could draw in some more people and with the RVD match taped for the show, they might end up with a bigger audience for next week.

But I doubt that's gonna happen.

I have a hard time believing they'd do that, considering they put the kibosh on their singles runs after only about two weeks into 'em.

I think Benoit has another month, so I think they're going to do a "free agent" thing with him.

Now I can't post anything else in this topic.

They'll stagger the draft through the entire show.  Start with the usual 20 minute promo to mention the top names and pop the morons.  Then after every three minute match they'll go back to Vince and Flair drafting the mid-carders.  Might show the lower card being drafted, who knows.  Draft will probably be done by 10:30EST., so we all can be blessed by Stephanie's presence.

Actually I would prefer they put the title match on the beginning of the program so I can determine if I'm even going to bother watching the WWF in the future. As for the draft, Benoit being there is a smarks wet dream. Every smark would prefer for Benoit to be voted first, the main guy, etc. Unfortunately, I have a gut feeling Benoit's return will not get very much pub. HHH's return was hyped for a month. With Benoit, we'll probably get a silly run-in on a nothing mid-card match reminding us that Hogan is back in the driver's seat and the Vanilla Midgets need to know their place.

I wish they'd just have a big ol two hour draft in Excess' timeslot. Make a use for that show and hurry things up.

Likely the draft will go on over several shows unless they ignore the midcard, as it lets them stall for time to get ready for doing two shows at once.

I'm kind of interested to see exactly what the production crew is going to do with the draft - they could do the first five draft picks for each fed in the 20 minute opening interview and then they could have a little ticker at the bottom of the screen showing who has been drafted for what (like other draft shows).  Then, maybe in between matches, they could cut to interviews like the one Regal had with Matt Hardy & Lita, with wrestlers contemplating the draft, or even have little skits like Christian repeatedly coming into the draft room throughout the night to see if he'd been picked yet.

They could also do the title match first and then do the draft afterwards, as goodhelmet suggested, since they don't have any other matches listed other than the World title triple threat, to my knowledge.

Lots of different possibilities here...Monday night should be make for some interesting TV.

I don't think it's in the best interests of the WWF to have a title match after everyone's been chosen for the draft, unless they're setting up so that the match will be meaningful in a way (i.e., both superstars drafted by one federation).

Also, wouldn't it be interesting to see it done in an NFL style, where you can trade players and draft picks for "higher" players?

Just my thought...

Yeah, I've also been kind of wondering if they would do trades between the shows and such.  Like, say for instance, Regal's on the Smackdown roster and he does something to piss off McMahon - next Smackdown, Regal gets called into the office and Vince tells him he's been "let go" and traded to the Raw roster for Spike Dudley.  Regal could be shocked that McMahon only traded him for Spike (Regal would likely consider it a besmirchment upon his reputation) and then he could call Spike a miserable little toerag and boom - instant cross-show feud for the next PPV.

Of course, if they did cross-show feuds, that would kind of take away the whole idea of the split, now wouldn't it?  :P

I'd LOVE to see Taker traded for 3 green rookies and a wrestler-to-be-repackaged-later.

Guest Human Fly

They should have guys cut promos after they get drafted. Have some guys get pissed off for not getting drafted before and beat up Vince or Flair. They could have Vince get beat up like 5 times during the show, make it sort of a running joke and everytime he gets up to make his next pick he's more and more messed up.

I see the split going on throughout the night backstage then at the end of the show they'll both come out and announce who's on which roster.  After that it'll be interesting to see if they call out the whole roster or anything like that.

I don't think that would be very exciting or the right way to kick off the next "biggest angle in history".
