Guest notJames Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Any name other than those wCw names is fine with me. No sense digging up rotten corpses... WW_ has an easy enough time making their own.
Guest LJSexay Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I don't know... I do know that the ppv itself has been terribly produced for the past couple of years, but now with the roster split, they couldn't have gone into the 3 round formula and let the mid-carders keep this ppv as theirs?
Guest papacita Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 They could always bring back Ground Zero. That wasn't too bad a name.
Guest El Satanico Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Doesn't one of the MMA feds have something with the name of Ground Zero? I believe it's Pride, but I'm not sure.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I liked "Cold Day In Hell", "Mind Games", "It's Time", "Ground Zero", and "Rock Bottom".
Guest bravesfan Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 They could always bring back Ground Zero. That wasn't too bad a name. As with "Over The Edge", the WWE would never use this title again (title is a trademark of 9/11). Mind Games is a pretty good one, too.
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The only reason the KotR didn't work was b/c the WWE always fucked up the booking and the obvious Vince pet project always won the tournament.
Guest wwF1587 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 im sad and not sad as well.. I loved the excitement of the KOTR tourney but it was too predictable...KOTR has always been usually the worst ppv of the year for some reason...oh well... despite the great KOTR winners of the past the only matches I really remember from this event was Austin/HBK.. Mankind/UT.. and Beniot/Austin/Jericho (just for Books debut if anything)
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Something like Mind Games you just can't use out of the blue...it only seemed to fit cause of Mankind in the first place. I doubt they'll go back to the old In Your House titles.
Guest Rob Edwards Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Mind Games and Fully Loaded were both good, they'll just pick a random dramatic word out of a War dictionary though. WWE Jungle Assault sounds good to me!
Guest The Tino Standard Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 "Ground Zero" would be a fitting name for the June Raw-only PPV. Since it would be the first brand-specific PPV, they'd basically be starting at ground-zero for the whole concept, much the same way they did when expanding the IYH PPVs to 3 hours, hence the name "Ground Zero" for the first 3-hr IYH.
Guest Austin3164life Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I'm not complaining about the idea, but what does this do for all previous winners (a handful of whom meant a lot to the history of KOTR). People wont care anymore that Bret was the first ever King of the Ring (ppv at least), Owen's push in 94, Austin's historical coronation speech (that's debatable), or Angle's rise to prominence. The ppv dwindled the past 3 years, but at the same time, it's a slap in the face of their history. I guess there's too much bad to cancel out the good of KOTR (Mable, Billy Gun).
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 WWE Jungle Assault is awesome. Imagine the set design...
Guest areacode212 Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I wish they'd go back to names that actually had some connection to what was on the show, e.g., Canadian Stampede, Good Friends...Better Enemies, Mind Games, Beware of Dog (ok, that one sucked). All the current names are way too generic-sounding.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I used to like the PPV because it was so much different than any other PPV. It reminded me of Wrestlemania 4 or 5 where they had a tournament for the World title. But the last few years, it has just sucked. They keep shortening the tournament itself during the PPV, that it just became dispensable like any other PPV.
Guest AndrewTS Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 I wish they'd go back to names that actually had some connection to what was on the show, e.g., Canadian Stampede, Good Friends...Better Enemies, Mind Games, Beware of Dog (ok, that one sucked). All the current names are way too generic-sounding. That would require far more creative energy than they have or are willing to expend. And that's the whole point of generic-sounding names.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 WWE Jungle Assault is awesome. Imagine the set design... Oh, let me try. Voilent Rashes! ...needs work
Guest Brian Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Well, if you look at the better King of the Ring shows, they usually had the least number of tourney matches. Throw in the fact of how little it's meant and how few people have actually used it as a launching point for their careers, and the bad outweighs the good.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 What if they called it...Raw presents, The Battle for (insert name of city where PPV is being held).
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 What if they called it...Raw presents, The Battle for (insert name of city where PPV is being held). I don't like that...I could care less to see (for example) "The Battle For Columbus!" here from my house in Michigan. That really doesn't do anything for me
Guest Choken One Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 U mean something like Chi-Town Rumble? Since KOTR is set in Houston...WHAT can they use their? I know...LAUNCHOFF!
Guest Choken One Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 u KNOW some idiot going to complain about that Quik...
Guest Lightning Flik Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 Choken One, it's a really good name. Sure, the WWE could come under flak for that one, but it's not like they are doing it to spite someone. They just need a new name. Why not call it "Harmony of Screams"? I know it'd be more suited for Halloween, but meh... I needed to suggest something.
Guest GameCop Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 The June PPV should now be called: Jolly June
Guest papacita Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 As with "Over The Edge", the WWE would never use this (Ground Zero) title again (title is a trademark of 9/11). I thought about that too, but I seriously doubt people would be that sensitive.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 WWE Holocaust~! Sadly if they went with the title it still would be one of the least offensive things they've done reciently.
