Guest Brian Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Let him beat up Brock every week since he can't take bumps, work a mat-style match with as little of a pounding as possible, turn Brock heel (they'll have to come up with some stupid storyline, but do it), injure Angle, hold the title for almost a year (with maybe a drop to Benoit at SummerSlam) and hope Angle is going to be ready for Mania.
Guest teke184 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Holding the title for a year? Uh, NO. Austin's the only guy to hold the title for six months straight in years and Diesel was the last guy to hold the title for a full year, and that was in 1994-1995. Considering that Brock's scheduled Summerslam to Wrestlemania reign didn't last, I wouldn't count on ANYONE having a protracted title reign anytime soon due to poor planning by the bookers and the rash of injuries changing the plans on an hourly basis.
Guest Human Fly Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If Angle is out the WWE WILL get Goldberg. He will win a title tourney with Brock getting screwed putting off Brock v. Goldberg until Summerslam with Brock eventually getting the win. (Goldberg will probaby agree to wrestle Brock before he comes in, I know he said he wouldn't before but some money will help change his mind). I'm not saying I want this to happen, just what I think will happen. Maybe not a tournament, but Goldberg will get big time spot in 'Mania now. Rock - Austin, HHH - Booker, and Hogan - Vince are already in place or in motion. I see an outside option of a new Undisputed Champ at 'Mania.

Goldberg refuses to work a program with either Brock or Triple H, so that kills that idea right out of the gate. Even if he does agree to it, his deal that he's been trying to negotiate is for like 2 PPVs and a few TV tapings, NOT a full schedule. You don't put the belt on someone like that for only a month if they're going to be skipping house shows and being pissy about who they'll work with or put over.
Guest Human Fly Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If they throw in enough cash I bet they could convince him. At this point they are desperate and would probably be willing to overpay even more then they were before. Edit - Also, he doesn't have any personal heat with Brock like he does with HHH (not that I know of at least) that is why I think it wouldn't be too hard too convince him. Even if he does agree to it, his deal that he's been trying to negotiate is for like 2 PPVs and a few TV tapings, NOT a full schedule. That didn't/hasn't stopped them from putting the belt on HBK, HHH, and Hogan in the past year.
Guest teke184 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 The difference is that Hogan stayed around and put guys over, Trips was banging the bosses' daughter, and HBK was probably banging the boss.
Guest Human Fly Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 The difference is that Hogan stayed around and put guys over, Trips was banging the bosses' daughter, and HBK was probably banging the boss. Maybe Goldberg is coming to take care of Pat Patterson
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I see an outside option of a new Undisputed Champ at 'Mania. I'm shocked nobody's brought this up earlier, because I was thinking about it earlier... but is the WWE that stupid?
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Great, if this does indeed become true, than this could be the most disastrous WM. The main event for the SD title is comprised. I have been looking forward to this match. I have no clue how they will change the main event at WM
Guest El Satanico Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 First of all Angle vs. Brock wasn't going to be THE main event at WM. Secondly Benoit would be an easy and good enough replacement for Angle if he can't go at all. It's not that hard to work around Angle's injury concerning WM. It's from after WM until he returns that the injury will cause problems. I want Benoit vs. Brock, but I'm expecting this... Steph strips Angle of the title and then tells Brock that he will face a mystery opponent at WM with the newly suspended Title on the line. Fast forward to the match at WM. Brock is in the ring and we hear familiar music and out comes Nash strolling to the ring. Then to sweeeerve us all Nash drops Brock with the "FINGER POKE OF DOOOM" and Nash gets the three count.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 That card sucks. And Angle isn't gone yet. And if he is, they should cancel Mania. Hmmmm replace one guy on the show or cancel the biggest show of the year? ....idiot
Guest Space_Cowboy Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 While i wouldn't really want to see it, they could have Taker-Lesnar III for the title. They have history together, and i doubt Taker would complain about getting a WM main event spot, though he'd probably have to end his WM winning streak as well, so it probably wont happen.
Guest bravesfan Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Hopefully Angle's injury will expose a weakness in the brand split (the severe roster shortages), so maybe, JUST MAYBE, the brand split will end sooner (than later). I like the idea of the Undisputed Champion at Wrestlemania, or yet allow Angle to forfeit his title and put it up in a one-night tournament (Benoit, Eddy, Brock and ??? involved).
Guest eiker_ir Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 i say if angle really can't wrestle at all (remember HBK wrestled at WM 14), i think the best would be Benoit-Brock for the title. but i think that Angle will probably wrestle the match anyway...
Guest Downhome Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I posted this in the other thread, and thought it could go here also. I'm home from my cousin's house watching RAW, and I just finished reading every single post in this thread up to the point where this post that I'm writing right now is. I've heard many of you speak on this, and now it's my turn. Here are some various thoughts about what I think of this, what I think of some of your ideas, and what I feel should be done about this... 1) First off, we do not know 100% if he's even going to have to miss ANY time, much less not make it to his match with Brock Lesner at Wrestlemania. That is the first thing we need to understand before jumping to so many conclusions. It's great to talk about what could happen, should happen, and all of that, but let's keep in mind that everything could be ok. I mean, WWE, Angle, Vince, and all of us could get a break couldn't we? 2) Right now I'm sure WWE is running about trying to get every single test done on Angle that they can, in order to make sure they get the results ASAP. If by some misfortune the tests come back that he has indeed Angle has reaggravated his 1995 neck injury, then they need to pull him from Wrestlemania right NOW, and work on something else. They have little time to get their Smackdown Main Event on the ball, and they need to start working on it as early as tomorrow night at the Smackdown tapings. 3) Saying shit like "angle should be a man and work with it" and that type of comments is fucked up. If he has an injury which is possibly very serious, he needs to QUIT wrestling for now, take all the time he needs to have work done on himself, and to heal. There is no reason to put his permanent health on the line just so they can try to fumble their way through a match, much less one that hasn't been built up all that great so far anyhow. Risking your being in a wheel chair or getting killed is not being a man, it's being a moron. 4) Tomorrow night they should run an angle like someone said before, where Kurt gives up his title. They could really build it up as Kurt being a huge heel saying that saying that he's "so sorry" that he will not be able to go on to Wrestlemania to defeat Brock Lesnar, but that his personal health comes first. He can say that when he comes back, rest assured that Brock Lesnar will be the first guy he comes after, and all that type of stuff. 5) For the cage match of Heyman vs Lesnar tomorrow night, they can just build it up as Brock Lesnar taking out all this ADDED frustration on Paul Heyman. They can have Team Angle run in to help Heyman, with perhaps a new "client" for Paul. I'm thinking either Benoit, Rhyno, or SOMEONE of this sort. Either one of those guys would work out beautifully. They all just lay out Lesnar at the end. 6) On the same show, Steph will say that Lesnar is still going to Wrestlemania, but he will be in the finals of a WWE Championship tourny. which will begin next week on Smackdown (if they want, they can just have the ENTIRE tourny be on that SD, to save time for buildup against Lesner). It will be an eight man tourny including a variety of guys like Benoit, Rhyno, Cena and other such talent. 7) The tourny can be used to make guys look good, further feuds for Wrestlemania, and also give Lesner a quick opponent for WM. My pick would also be Benoit to go against Lesnar for the vacant WWE Championship. As said before, they have a backstory and they could really build up Benoit as a HUGE monster, and by having Heyman be his mouthpiece, we could be in store for one of the best programs that Benoit has ever been in. 8) At Wrestlemania, I would also have Benoit beat Lesnar just to FINALLY give someone an upper hand against Brock Lesner, finally. I would keep the title OFF of Brock Lesner UNTILL the first Smackdown exclusive PPV. By doing this over those months you build up anticipation in the fans, by FINALLY wanting to see Lesner going over. Lesner is a monsther right now, but they could build Benoit up as a really pain in Lesner's side. Kurt Angle can then return whenever, and we can do his program with Lesnar the RIGHT way, and they'll have a backstory ready. 9) There is NO NEED to bring in Jericho, Rocky, Austin, Goldberg, or anyone else new for this feud with Lesner. They have Benoit primed and ready to step up if need be. Rocky/Austin is set for Mania, Jericho/HBK is set for Mania, and they should NOT debut Goldberg as a heel and loose. If they are to sign him and give him so much money, they need to take their time with Goldberg, and do it the right way, not hotshot something just because they feel they need an out. 10) We can't blame anything or anyone for Kurt's injury really. If it's a reaggravation of his 1995 injury, then this was just waiting to happen. For years and years people have been doing movies like the German Suplex safely, Benoit has done them for a very long time and has been fine in doing so. The problem here is just a sorry case of bad luck. It's an accident, and that's just that. I will say that I feel they should soften the schedule's for everyone, they seem to be working them much harder when it's not doing anyone any good at all. ...that's my thoughts, and that's that. There is no need for panic, as they have plenty that they can do in this situation. Hell, if you think about it, we could get an even better angle out of this. The current Angle/Brock storyline is not all that great right now, and this could work out as a good thing for all involved. The thing to remember is that this is NOT a case to panic, and to bring someone over from RAW for no reason that already is in a program, and is NOT a reason to bring in anyone new. If Angle is hurt, it's time to push Benoit, PERIOD.
Guest papacita Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I agree that Benoit should be pushed, but keep him as a face. He's got almost an underdog quality with him right now and I think fans could really get behind him winning the title. If they needed to add heat to the face/face encounter, they could always have Team Angle try to take out both men in order to ruin the Smackdown ME with Heyman's reasoning being "If Kurt can't have the title, no one will"...or something like that.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 7) The tourny can be used to make guys look good, further feuds for Wrestlemania, and also give Lesner a quick opponent for WM. As said before, they have a backstory and they could really build up Benoit as a HUGE monster, and by having Heyman be his mouthpiece, we could be in store for one of the best programs that Benoit has ever been in. By backstory do you mean "They tagged together once"? Why the fuck would Heyman go with Benoit?
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 I don't really see where this Brock/Benoit stuff is coming from..(except a smark-dream, maybe..) Everyone here knows how the WWE is about face/face matches, and they're not going to risk Lesnar losing heat for anything, especially now. Putting Benoit in there would require either him, or Brock heel.. ..and we all know which one that would be, right? Angle will probably tough it out, lose at Mania, and THEN go out for whatever he needs. Kinda screwy, considering he just might have won..
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Turning Benoit Heel (AGAIN!) = Bad Idea. Plan B = Give more time to Hogan vs. McMahon. Plan T = Give title to Taker. Oh it will happen.
Guest papacita Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Why the fuck would Heyman go with Benoit? He's already said that anyone's a better option for champ than Brock Lesnar. Having him back Benoit would just make him look like more of a two-faced slimeball...it'd also turn Kurt face, though.
Guest commie_050 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If Angle is able to walk, he will be in that main event. I'd be willing to lay down money right now that the match will go on.
Guest Downhome Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If Angle is able to walk, he will be in that main event. I'd be willing to lay down money right now that the match will go on. What would be the point if he's hurt? I'd rather see two guys who can really go in the biggest show of the year, instead of have some sort of over booked bullshit going down just because one isn't in any shape to be there in the first place.
Guest edotherocket Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 As long as the injury isn't life threateningly awful, I say go with Angle vs. Brock, even if it means they have a shitty match. The bottom line is that Brock WILL win the title that night. They've already made Angle look bad so an injury is reason enough for a piss poor performance and him getting destroyed at Mania. Replacing him with Benoit means he gets only three weeks build up only to lose anyway and stall his momentum he has going because lets face it, Benoit will NOT win the title.
Guest edotherocket Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Remember, there are plenty of other 'money' matches and I doubt Brock/Angle would've headlined anyway. RAW puts on shitty main events all the time. I think Smackdown should be allowed one if it means in the long run Brock, Benoit and Angle all come out of it for the better.
Guest teke184 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If Angle can wrestle up until Mania, keep him out of the ring until then and then have him put over Lesnar. If Angle can't make it to Mania, have him job the belt to someone if he can wrestle one more match or have him vacate the belt and hold a tourney to determine who will face Lesnar at Mania. If Angle can't make it to Mania, there are only so many people on SD that can be seen as a title contender. These are Benoit, Undertaker, Eddy Guerrero, Hogan, and MAYBE Rhyno. Of those, Benoit, Hogan, Undertaker, and Rhyno are currently faces and Rhyno has just come back from a 16-month absence due to a neck injury. Putting Brock against another rising talent like a Matt Hardy or John Cena at Mania would be seen as a step down for the belt rather than a step up for Brock.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Angle is injured? Damn. If he's out for a year...DAMN. He's the only actually talented wrestler that they cook in the main events of either show. Damn.
Guest creativename Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 Here's how I'd do it (note that Phase I doesn't need to happen; it's just a way to get the title vacant): Phase I: On this week's SD!, the announcers play up Angle's injury throughout the show. Then, with about 30 minutes left in the show, Angle comes out to cut a promo about how he needs surgery for his reaggrated neck. He notes that he won an Olympic gold medal on a broken neck, so he has no doubt that he can beat that punk Brock Lesnar with one...but he doesn't see the need to take the risk. Instead, he's going to defend his title tonight, in this very ring, against...Shelton Benjamin (or Haas, but they seem to push Benjamin a little more). Then Benjamin comes out, and they do the whole Hogan-Nash finger poke of DOOM~! thing. Team Angle comes out to celebrate but Steph comes (unfortunately, as GM, she seems to be a necessary evil for this to work). She starts yelling about how Team Angle will not be permitted to make a mockery of this great title, with so much history behind. She even says "This is not WCW!", in keeping with the WCW-bashing theme for the week started by her fiance. She then strips Benjamin of the title, and declares it vacant. Since he won the Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar will face the winner of tournament to determine his opponent. She mentions that Chris Benoit, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Rhyno (maybe Big Show, Albert and whoever else) and Team Angle will be in the tournament. Team Angle goes ballistic. Cage match then takes place. Phase II: Hogan is screwed over by Vince (again) during his tourney match. Maybe Taker is screwed over by Albert (ugh). These matches can happen whenever. On the SD! after the tourney announcement, each guy involved gets some sort of promo about the title. Benoit gets another one of his solo interview vignettes, where he re-emphasizes how the title means everything to him, and he'll do "anything" to get it. At some point during the show, we see Benoit backstage by himself. Then Paul Heyman comes alone to talk to him (on crutches or in a wheelchair, due to the cage match). Benoit gives him a cold reaction, like "What are you doing here?" Heyman tells him to hear him out. He makes note of how Benoit said he'd do "anything" to get the title. Heyman then says "Now that Kurt's injured, you're the best wrestler on SmackDown!" Benot responds "I was the best before Kurt got injured." Heyman, "Regardless, you're the best now...and that means you're my best hope at keeping the title off Brock Lesnar." Benoit is silent for a couple of seconds, then angrily tells Heyman to get lost. Benoit's tourney match is with Rhyno (probably the main event for the show). Either before or during the match, Heyman and Team Angle come out. Benoit yells at them, they leave, and he goes back to wrestling Rhyno. Crossface, Rhyno doesn't tap. Rolling Germans, etc., another Crossface, Rhyno doesn't tap. Flying headbutt, but Rhyno kicks out. Benoit is clearly getting frustrated. Ref is bumped somehow, Rhyno is knocked down, and Benoit is hurt too. He struggles to get outside the ring, where he grabs the title belt and stares down at it in his hands. Close up of Benoit's face. After staring at is for a little while, he lifts his head up, closes his eyes and nods to himself. Grabs a steel chair, chairshot, wakes the ref, pinfall. Heyman and Team Angle come out afterwards, and Benoit locks eyes with Heyman or Benjamin and nods at them. The rest is optional: Ensuing beatdown of Rhyno, Lesnar cleans house, but Benoit nails him from behind with the chair. Standard heel punkout, with Benoit standing tall at the end. Benoit goes on the win the tourney either the next week or the week after (depending on how many rounds it has), and faces Lesnar at Mania. If Benoit wins, cool; if Lesnar wins though, have Team Angle get beaten to a pulp by Los Guerreros (or whoever they face) in the tag titles match, so that they're too hurt to interfere in the title match; and maybe Heyman is too scared to come to ringside. This way, Benoit doesn't look like a loser when he jobs. NOTE: The important thing here is that the fans witness Benoit's turn to the "Dark Side", rather than having it happen behind the scenes in yet another Heyman as agent "swerve". That would result in very little to almost no heel heat for Benoit, who's finally over as a face again. And yes, clearly, I think Benoit nodding silently=coolness Of course, I think that they'll simply go with Angle-Lesnar anyway, with Angle jobbing in under 9 minutes in a mid-card match.

Then have Benoit win the title and go onto to WM to take on Lesnar. Oooor in the Cage match, Heyman has a NEW CLIENT(whoever the WWE brings in or an existing member) run down and get into with Lesnar to allow Heyman to escape with only minor cuts & bruises. If Vader was in any kind of shape, I wouldn't mind him getting snatched up by WWE for a one time appearance, however reading the NWA/TNA reports he is super-fat now. I could almost see Heyman taking the same approach to Lesnar as they did with Taz in ECW. Every week someone from outside the company is brought in to try and take out Lesnar yet it always fails. The only problem is, Lesnar is a face so the payoff might not come off good. Cause the whole premise would be that someone would FINALLY have to go over Brock, and since Angle could be gone for a year, I doubt the storyline would last that long.
Guest converge241 Posted March 4, 2003 Report Posted March 4, 2003 If angles has to go out , sign Goldberg to job to Lesnar and keep Austin- Rock
