I still have hope for RAW...

Recommended Posts

Tonight, I was ready to give up on RAW. No Austin to start me off, not too many a good match, and then...Rocky appears on my screen and berates The Coach, prompting me to grin from ear to ear...and to TOP IT OFF, he has another BRILLIANT FUCKIN PROMO with The Hurricane, and damned if that wasn't the hardest I've laughed since I was a little girl, thank you very much. You know what's fuckin great? If Hurricane and Rock ever had a match...we'd rave over it, just because Rocky would do everything in his power to put himself over. Triple H, take note. You took 15 minutes to make Booker look inferior, and in 5 minutes, Rocky put over somebody you buried long ago with Kane. Rocky brings the awesome, and I wish I could watch him cut promos for two hours instead of soem of the bullshit I've been watching. He truly is the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.

I have to agree that Rock's pressence on Raw has made it much better over the past 2 weeks, especially last night.

The entire Rock / Hurricane segment was gold - and Rock telling the audience to shut up from the dressing room was super gold gold.

It makes me wish HHH would embark on a movie career and Rocky can entertain me every Monday/Thursday night...

The Rock/Hurricane definitely made up for that brutal HHH/Booker T showdown…

(…and before I continue, I must say, HHH was borderline racist with all his comments: "you people", "dance for me", "nappy hair". And the worst part was, he seemed so comfortable saying all those things that I doubt it was all an act. Way to make your next challenger look credible to the fans. I felt so bad for Booker… it almost looked he was going to either cry or really lay into HHHim…)

… and was almost perfect, if it wasn't for Helms' pedestrian acting skills. His goofy reactions to Rock's lambastings weren't very effective, especially when Rock ragged on his braces and he flashed them to the camera. Very amateurish, and hardly emoted anything other than "Yep, folks, he's right, I've got braces."

However, Helms made up for it with his final speech about Rock being afraid of Stone Cold. Very strong finish. I almost didn't notice he was rhyming. The eventual showdown between the two will do more for Helms' career than all the cruiserweight belts in the entire universe.

And of course, I don't need to say how awesome Rock was on his end. Too bad his stuff is so funny that he and Helms were on the verge of laughing and breaking character.

And not for nothing, but damn, did they pack the Nassau Coliseum or what? No blacking out of the upper tiers, and the crowd seemed much livelier than they've ever been. Not much of an accomplishment, considering the usual malaise from the Long Island crowd, but definitely a testament to how much of a draw Austin and Rock really are.

Another thing I took note of was when HHH was saying how Booker was the champ of a sinking WCW -- ahem, pot calling kettle black?...

I didn't see anything bad with what Triple H said. He went out there to confront his challenger for WrestleMania and he put a LOT of face heat on Booker. He went to the ring to make the fans buy 'Mania for the sole purpose of seeing Booker kick Triple H's ass and win the world title.

What made it worst was that Ric Flair being the Yes Man to HHH laughing at David Arquette and Vince Russo as champs jokes, while he was the champion of WCW for what his whole career there.

We all know that the True Champ of WWE is on Smackdown.

Triple H wasn't making fun of every WCW Champion, he was just saying that Booker was given the title during the crappiest point in WCW's history when Russo and Arquette were also title holders.

Of course, Flair agreeing is also a bit off since Flair got the belt a mere month after Arquette had it.

I dug flairs hand gestures when HHH talked about Russo and Arquette (shoot!).

I don't quite get the title, however. What is this thing called "hope" and what does it have to do with the WWE?

I must have been in anaphylactic shock from HHH's racist remarks, because I don't remember Flair reacting to anything HHHe said. What were those hand gestures?

And hope, Triple R, is that tiny red light on top of the camera every time Rock is on TV. It might be fleeting, but it provides some comfort for those of us who still yearn for the days when Vince and Co. were entertaining.

I think he's got a whole filing cabinet. I know what you meant, though.

The thing is, Rock is back for now, and he's very entetaining, but unless they sort out the rest of the Raw roster, once Rock leaves we'll just go back to moaning about how everything sucks.

As always RAW was about pushing the same wrestlers down our throats and not elevating any new faces. Rock has always been awesome but he'll be out by the end of the month and then what?Austin and HHH one more time? When are we going to see RVD and Book get a real push instead of these going nowhere pushes they get every once in a while?

Flair made a gun hand gesture. As if to say "shoot".

Chances are the writers gave him these lines. As Stone Cold wrote in his article and has been very vocal regarding the fact that the writers TELL the workers what to say these days.

As for him being comfortable saying it. Give me a break. Whatever. You can't call a man a racist because of the part he plays on television. That's like saying JK Simmons is a racist because he plays a Nazi on Oz and he plays the part well. That claim is totally unfounded and just plain dumb, which is really surprising seeing as I usually agree with a lot of what you have to say on this board. Oh well. C'est la vie.

I found the comments to be a wee bit racist but I don't think it's anything to be up in arms over.

Triple H was just trying to get heat on himself for the mania match.

If Booker T wins at Mania then it's all good.

It's not just the racist part though. It's the fact that he's cutting the same old "you can't beat me" promo and the writer's don't even bother to throw Booker a bone.

A wee bit racist?

He was basically saying "You are not as good as me because you are black and I am white"

But if in the end Booker beats him then it's all good.

If Triple H wins then of course we know it's a load of shit.

I think HHH was saying: I concentrate on wrestling and winning matches while you only care about your Spinaroonie

Rock and his segments backstage espically with Hurricane is gold...

But COME on folks. Geez Months back when Rock was here you weren't Droooooling all over him as you are all now.

Unless you are Liking his Screaming Sharpshooters and Armpit suplexes now?

The fact that Russo beat Flair for the title makes it seem rather funny to me.

You were a little girl? I was under the impression you were a male poster. :P

And having Rock and even Austin on doesn't mean shit if the rest of the show sucks horse testicles, which it does.

Russo didn't beat Flair for the Title.

Flair won it from Jarrett and then had it stripped from him.

Flair was given by the belt by Nash and lost to Jarrett.

No, HHH said that so he could say "what I was saying was that he is an entertainer and I am a wrestler" whenever someone criticized his promo. In reality it was an attempt to get heat by using race.... Just like HHH's attempts to get heat for the past *checks* 8 Months.

Booker will probably beat him at WM, but IN THE END, Booker will end up buried. But I can't help but by a lil bit cynical because HHH has said the same thing to Jericho, Kane and RVD in the past and they all lost...

With Kane-

Didn't he know he would lose the title to him(in storyline) so he did the whole murder storyline to fuck with his head?

I won't go so far as to say it's as cut and dried as that, Triple R, but he didn't do himself any favours with it, that's for sure.

And I'm sure it was all part of the script, but it still seemed a bit too natural coming from HHHeMan, who, like Brian said, isn't renowned for his acting skills. Consider a lot of his long, drawn-out promos, especially the Evilution one. They all seem very forced and unconvincing, even without the requisite smark cynicism. Last night seemed almost too fluid, like he really believed some of it. Maybe it was the whole "not in my league" bit, but…

I know what I saw, and it made me a bit uncomfortable. And even the crowd seemed a bit taken a back. I'll rescind a lot of what I say if Booker is made to look even a bit credible in the next few weeks.

Didn't HHH win in the end and isn't Kane stuck in a midcard feud.

The Message this sends: Kane is indeed not in HHH's league.

"Go on, Dance for me Booker"
