Guest GameCop Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Even Austin's return received a tepid response.
Guest tpww7 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Maybe the crowd was dead because the show blew?
Invictus 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Yeah, I was really surprised. Austin's response was pretty decent, as was The Rock's, but no where near what I was expecting. I thought Austin was gonna get a huge sustained reaction for his big return to free television, but alas, the crowd was sitting on their hands. The show was nothing special either, another factor in the crowd reaction. Most of them were probably asleep by the time Austin came out.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 4, 2003 That's besides the point...Austin should've gotten a much bigger pop then that.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Well, it is Long Island.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I guess HHH is glad that he got his BIG return at MSG and not LI...
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 there is also some brusied feelings even for the fans in the stands on how Austin left. at some point there is some explainations needed even for those who lose their individual minds in the arena and job the mob sheepish mantality. Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted March 4, 2003 austin thanking everyone got a bigger pop than his original entrance... but rocks speeches were leagues better than anyone elses and overshadowed austins return
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I guess HHH is glad that he got his BIG return at MSG and not LI... I credit that to the "Beautiful Day" videos
Guest teke184 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Seriously guys... the responses DID blow because Long Island has some of the worst crowds in wrestling, heat-wise. They get several shows a year because they're so close to the other big markets and, as a result, they don't really give a crap. Certain venues in the west are the same way. Some areas around Los Angeles (Anaheim, perhaps?) have the same problem.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 people are different around the world...I got a older WWF world tour tape and Money inc was vs the Steiners in Spain and the Spannish were deathly quiet most of the match, then it went to england and people were loud as hell. Guest notJames Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Disappointing responses considering the arena was more or less full. No tarping or blackouts in the upper tiers at all. How many RAWs or SD!s in the past few months could say the same? They need to do something to rile up the crowds… like put on a consistently good show. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I wouldn't cheer for that shit either. But maybe Vince will realize that if he wants someone's return to be dramatic, he shouldn't tease it for amonth and a half before actually doing it. If Stephanie started saying "Rhyno will be back soon!" in Janurary, they would have pissed all over him when he actually did come back.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 But the Nassau Colliseum was hot for Summerslam... *Blink* Oh, and for the record, I actually enjoyed Raw, though the last half hour was nothing but angles.
Guest teke184 Report post Posted March 4, 2003 James, Long Island is only loud when a native of the area like Mick Foley is out there. Even in 2001, when Austin and Trips were there early in the year and Austin and Rock later in the year, the responses sucked.
Guest notJames Report post Posted March 4, 2003 I'm notJames. James is the guy I'm not. BTW, I'm quite familiar with the LI crowd (live in NJ, work in Manhattan). Even in normal situations and everyday conversations, Long Islanders are unanimated and given to leaving rooms to buy popcorn.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 4, 2003 They weren't even that loud for Foley compared to what you'd expect for a hometown main eventing babyface.
Guest DerangedHermit Report post Posted March 4, 2003 Well, Nassau Coliseum is just a real piece of shit arena (and it's certainly not as easy to get to as MSG is, even though I live closer to the Coliseum than MSG), and coupled with Long Islanders' normal apathy (eh, I didn't care that much either) AND the fact that the show blew...I'm not surprised. BTW, one of my friends went to Raw, and met Maven and Bubba. Funny exchange here between my friend and Maven: Friend: Holy shit, it's Maven! Maven: Holy shit, you're right!
