Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 6, 2003 Not really. It doesn't take a lot of intelligence and willpower to enjoy a movie and read subtitles. I've watched about a dozen Japanese horror films in the last six months, all subtitled, and I've never had a problem. Well, It does take awhile to get use to subtitled movies. I can understand people having trouble with subtitles alot more than i understand people having trouble with widescreen. It took me a few movies before I was comfortable with watching the movie while reading the subs.
Guest fazzle Report post Posted March 6, 2003 oh, and for those who don't know(since I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread) when you're on play movie, hit up for what I think is the only easter egg on the dvd.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted March 6, 2003 on what one, The Ring or Ringu? For The Ring, you get the extended version of the haunted video if you go to look here and push down
Guest fazzle Report post Posted March 6, 2003 The Ring, and that's the same thing you get on pushing up from play movie. So good they had to put it in there twice, I guess.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted March 7, 2003 could be. I'm pissed about the lack of features. Imagine all they could've done. Documenteries, COMMENTARY, and other stuff! *Waits for the 2 disc SE*
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 (edited) Yeah, with all the money that it made at the box office, this screams double-dip to me. Unless I can pick this up at the pawn shop, I'll wait for the SE. I'm REALLY in no hurry to see this movie again (though I loved it). Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted March 7, 2003 They need to make more discs like the El Mariachi/Desperado two-sided disc. I'd buy a The Ring/Ringu one but not the barebones fucker they have out now. They could've done this with Ocean's 11 and it's remake as well as Vanilla Sky/Open Your Eyes, and Get Carter. That would've ruled.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I had to see The Ring in the cinema twice. I loved it both times, but each time I had someone ruining it for me the whole way through. The first time I saw it with my girlfriend at the time who was having serious trouble following what was going on and continually asked me to explain it. Is there anything more annoying?? Then the second time my mate's little sister's friend who was there with us spent half the movie buried in my chest asking if it was OK to look now. Frustrating. What's the go with this Ringu 2 and 0 business?? Is this a Japanese prequel and sequel to the American remake version?? What's the basic plot of them?? Yep, Ringu 2 and 0 are pre-quils and sequils to the original Ringu. If you haven't seen Ringu, go see it, it is better than the american version i think, and if you have already seen the american version, when watching ringu you will notice so many similarities. Guest Nanks Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I just can't see myself trying to track down obscure Japanese movies. I've seen Ringu in the video store, but never even heard of Ringu 0 and Ringu 2. What happens?? What are their plots??
The Dames 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Just a warning....some people think the Japanese version is better, some don't. Personally, I didn't like it and it had NOTHING to do with subtitles or Japanese culture or anything trivial like that. Dames
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Most people seem to prefer the one they saw first. I personally thought the remake was a lot better (I don't feel like explaining why, but I think I already did so in the original thread.) I just can't see myself trying to track down obscure Japanese movies. I've seen Ringu in the video store, but never even heard of Ringu 0 and Ringu 2. What happens?? What are their plots?? I hope some place around here shows those two movies again because I missed them the first time. Supposedly, Ring 2 follows the boyfriend's "assistant" around (the Rachel character & her son are missing, I think), while Ring 0 focuses on Sadako's life (before she gets thrown in the well, obviously). The Dames 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 AC, remember the girl I introduced you to, my ex? Well, she bought Ring 2 and Ring 0 on DVD and she wants to watch them with me, but I'm very hesitant to. Are you sure that the New Ring 2 has nothing do with with the original? Dames
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 Did she get them from somewhere here in the city, or did she order them online? I'm interested in getting my hands on those, actually. Anyway, I have no idea what the American sequel will be based on. The rumor is that it'll be an original script, but who knows how things will change between now & then. Personally, I think they should just leave it as a standalone movie and not turn it into a Samara franchise.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted March 7, 2003 The American sequil will have NOTHING TO DO with the Japanese ones. Go ahead and watch them. This has been on numerous sites now.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2003 I agree with you AC, but you know they'll do it anyway because it made so much damn money. She got it at a horror convention (she got to see the FvJ trailer!) although there's a few places by my way that sell them too. She told me news about a Buffy convention coming to the city (Anya was at the convention promoting Darkness Falls doing a meet and greet) but it was moved to Seattle. Bummer.
