The OTHER Radicals

Recommended Posts

Guest Choken One

In Early 2000, WCW Management were tired of Vince's Russo antics and he was fired. Kevin Sullivan was named the new head writer. Almost promptly, WCW Superstars protested...8 of them to be exact.

Chris Benoit

Eddy Guerreno

Dean Melenko

Perry Saturn

Rey Mysterio

Shane Douglas

Konnan

Kidman

We know what became of Benoit, Eddy, Dean and Saturn...But what happend with The other four guys?

Why didn't they jump with the other guys?

I figured that Douglas knew he stood no chance in WWF since he burned his bridges...

Why didn't the other three jump? Were they promised raises or Pushes? Or what?

No that wasn't it...I remember how They protested but alot of reports saying They were convinced to say with WCW instead...

WWF would've gone and taken those guys just for the hell of it...

Yes, i know but that's not the question...The question was Why didn't those four other guys leave when they weren't happy like the Radicals...Why did they stay? I know Douglas would never go back to WWF or ECW at that time since he burned bridges both ways...Which I why I said I understood his reasoning to stay...but what about Kidman,. Konnan and Mysterio?

I think Rey acknowledged it in his <PIMPING>shoot inverview, which can be found at thesmartmarks.com</PIMPING>! I'm guessing they were convinced to stay with WCW.

I know Shane was trying to get them to resign with WCW, or stay on and stick it out. But the 4 went to WWF and really pissed him off.

The group that stuck together were Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, Saturn, and Douglas.

The others had a falling out with Shane so they took off without him.

Really? I really though Kidman and Konnan and Mysterio were involved...maybe not to the extent as the other guys...

Rey Rey, Kidman and Konnan were convinced to stay in WCW with the promises of big pushes I think.

Shane was going to leave with the Radicals but they left him in the dust when they realised WWF def would not take him

Huh...Well thanks...

Would the group been different had Konnan, Mysterio and Kidman went instead of Melenko, Saturn and Eddy? I know Benoit was the MOST willing to leave simply because of his history with Sullivan...

Would they had Konnan be the spokesperson rather?

Well WWF really really wanted Benoit and was only a bit interested in Eddy. They took Dean and Saturn to get Benoit.

Vince had past heat with Konnan which is probably he didn't go.

And knowing the state of the cruiser division I don't think Rey and Kidman thought they would get a good shot

Chris Benoit

Eddy Guerreno

Dean Melenko

Perry Saturn

Rey Mysterio

Shane Douglas

Konnan

Kidman

Kidman was given a big push right from the start. Souled Out 2000 - the show that featured the last TV appearance of the Radicalz - included Kidman working a gautlet match in which he advanced to the final round and was beaten by the Wall inside a cage. He went on to feud with Hogan over the spring.

That gauntlet match was a last minute substitution for the Benoit / Jarrett Best 2 of 3 falls stipulation-fest that was cancelled due to Jarrett's concusion - also why Benoit was given the title shot in the main event.

I believe Mysterio was injured at this time.

Konnan had burned his own bridges in the WWF. I know he worked a few shows in the early 90s - either as Konnan or, I believe, Max Moon. From what I hear, Vince was not impressed with his professionalism (showing up late, etc) and thus was not interested in picking him up.

Douglas was set to work out a deal with the WWF but, as was said earlier, when the other 4 realized the WWF wouldn't be interested if he was involved they dropped him.

JJ Dillon said in his shoot interview that WWE only wanted Benoit. They agreed to take Eddy, Perry and Dean in a package deal.

Rey was injured and at the time WWE had no use for him 'cause they didn't use cruisers yet.

Kidman stuck around because of promises of a big push but falls into the same category as Rey.

Douglas and Konann don't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever being in the WWE.

Was that the same gauntlet that had Dean Malenko losing a match by stepping outside?

Yeah, it was supposed to be a 2 out of 3 falls for the U.S. strap with one fall being a straight up mat wrestling bout, another was a cage, forgot what the third was.

I was there AT souled out 2000...

It was Melenko Vs Kidman in a Bunkhouse Match then Saturn in a straight up match and then The Wall in a Caged Heat match...

The saturn match was supposed to be a hardcore match but kidman sucks.

That's my theory. I still hate Kidman for pinning saturn in that match. Oh and for sucking. And being called 'Billy Kidman' which is quite the loser name. Personally I think WCW should have booked a saturn squash there. They didn't, and look where they are now....I think Kidman is one of the most selfish guys in the business for not jobbing there and then and saving WCW.

Nope.

It was Malenko v. Kidman in a catch as catch can match.

Kidman v. Saturn was a bunkhouse match.

Wall v. Kidman was a caged heat match.

Yep. If Kidman / Malenko was a bunkhouse match it wouldn't have mattered if Malenko rolled out to the floor.

According to an interview with him, Shane was trying to negotiate with the Radicals, but they wound up ditching him when they went to meet up with WWF. He found out that they were up in Stamford through I think Dean or Eddie slipping up that they were going to meet with Vince. Basically, they were avoiding Shane and when he found out he was pissed at all them. I think he said that the only one he still talks to is Benoit.

As for Kidman, Konnan and Rey according to the Rey shoot it said that they were thinking about trying to get out, but lawyers started cracking down on everyone trying to leave.

Wasn't Kanyon another one of the guys that wanted to leave as well? I seem to remember hearing about that someplace.

Kanyon asked for his release in February after the Radicals left.

He was denied

Hmmm.

I remember Hogan made his fleamarket comment the week before Russo and Bisch came back and I think Kanyon asked for his release in Feb.

I remember Scott Keith mentioning it when he still reviewed Thunder

I think Kanyon asked for his release several times. At least once was right around when the Radz left. He did a commentary on this at his site in the past year and said if he hadn't been out injured when the Radz left, he'd have gone with them.
