Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted March 9, 2003 Why you are so proud of 11 division titles obtained mostly in a division which contains the Mets, Phillies, Marlins and Expos (where at least three of those four teams have sucked every year since they expanded) is beyond me. Not like that's any great accomplishment. Notice I didn't say 11 STRAIGHT division titles. They get that on a technicality. And how in the HELL do you explain how Philadelphia beat the Braves in 1993?

And how in the HELL do you explain how Philadelphia beat the Braves in 1993? 1995 the Phillies actually started out as a pretty great team until July when the Braves turned up the heat on them. 1999 and 2000 (and even 2001) we were in some real dog fights with the Mets. Remember- the Mets were good a few years ago. 2001 the Braves were decimated by injuries and had to contend with a hot Phillies team and almost lost it there. If we win it this year I think it'll be a miracle. Philly has Millwood and Thome, the Mets have Glavine- it's gonna be tough. How did we lose to Philly? 1)Curt Shilling 2)Morandini injures Maddux

The only really great three-team race the Braves ever had was that god-awful 2001 season. Not that hard to win a division that only ever has one other team that's even semi-good. It's like winning the Southeast division in the NHL. Oh, and Morandini injuring Maddux????? What the heck are you smoking??? Wasn't that the game where Atlanta couldn't get anything off Tommy Greene and were booting the ball all over the park? That game was never in doubt from the start. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 9, 2003 While they've only had one three team race it seems like there've been many years where them winning the title was in doubt. The fact that they've been able to do so every uear is a pretty impressive feat. Morandini hit a ball that went right into Maddux's foot and caused him to be ineffective the rest of the game and I think led to them losing

They CRUSHED the Phillies in games 2 and 3. And remember, Schilling went 0-0 in that series...it's not like he beat them.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Only 4 teams have ever won 100+ 3 years in a row..... '29-'31 Athletics '69-'71 Orioles '42-'44 Cardinals '97-'99 Braves I find it weird the Yankees never pulled it off.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 10, 2003 The Yankees are like the Current L.A Lakers. The Regular Season meant nothing because they ALWAYS for the most part turned it "ON" during the time it really matters, Playoffs. The Atlanta Braves never did. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Yes they did- They made it to the World Series 5 times and won once. Saying they never turned it on for the playoffs is absurd
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted March 10, 2003 For everyone who hates Griffey I thought I would pass along this bit of information: "Major-league players get $73 a day in meal money. That amounts to quite a chunk of change for spring training. But Ken Griffey Jr. never even opened his envelope. He simply signed it over to the clubhouse attendants." That was from the Cincy Enquirer. He also sponsors children in a local program for the poor. He has adopted two children. Was the only player to call Hal McCoy to congratulate him on being elected into the baseball writers hall of fame. He named his boat after his daughter, not one of his accomplishments. Has offered to cut his salary in order for the reds to go out and get a free agent. Yeah he seems like a real dick. Someone to root against.

Guest alkeiper Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I'm dead serious. They have a solid lineup with few weaknesses. All they need is the pitching now, and they have Halladay and Lidle. I few players step up, and its hardly out of the question.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Well, they're leagues better than Tampa, so don't suggest that they can't be the Rays. If Hinske, Phelps, and Halladay can at least match their seasons from last year, they'll have a chance to surprise a few teams. They'll still finish 3rd, though, for the 390th straight year. Oh, they'll finish third, No doubt really. Only problem there is, third isn't good. Especially in that division, where th third place team never even enters coversations. And that won't hit .500.
