DMX recently told MTV that his next album, It's Not a Game, will be his last before retiring from hip-hop. X said he will continue to act and run his record label, Bloodline Records, but that his top priority will be to work in his church and be with his family. X does not want to be a stranger to his children. As for his upcoming 5th album, It's Not a Game, the album is expected to be out by summer. It is being described as the most autobiographical of all of X's albums. As for 50 Cent, DMX said the following: "He's an individual after my own heart. I'm glad he's here. Once again, hip-hop was getting a little bit too slippery, a little too shiny. So it's good, it's refreshing, to have someone bring it right back to the streets." X plans to release new albums from Big Stan, Kashmir, and Bazaar Royale soon. Ja Rule, Dr. Dre, and Master P have also vowed to retire soon. Credit: MTV Ja Rule and Master P need to hurry it up! The best part of his new movie was the opening sequence when they were playing Go To Sleep. I had never heard the song and damn near marked out. DMX cannot fucking act. I disagree, but even going with this point, it's better to be a has-been than a never-was, and was Master P ever on top of his game? Not really, No Limit replaced the lamer aspects of Bad Boy, and was replaced by Cash Money, who's been replaced by Ja Rule. It's "pop rap", the kind of stuff that's really hot for a few months, but is quickly forgotten because there was never any substance for it in the first place. DMX has substance. I mean he's been rapping since the late 80's so I can understand him retiring. It's going to be sad X and Jay-Z are going to retire after their albums drop this year.No, "The Last Temptation" won't be Ja's last album, Ja said he changed his mind about retiring after talking to Qunicy Jones he decided he wasn't going to retire. Ja Rule could stay out because, he is falling into the same boat as LL.(Without the the looks/talent/and kickass tattoo). Too $hort "retired" in 1996 after Gettin' It, and has made FOUR albums since then, in addition to appearing on a few compilation albums he made with his record label. Master P "retired" after MP Da Last Don in 1998 (or maybe it was Only God Can Judge Me in 1999), and has made three albums since then, in addition to a couple of 504 Boyz albums and appearing on many No Limit tracks and movie soundtracks. The only rapper who retired and STAYED retired was Ma$e, who retired after Double Up and hasn't so much as made a cameo since then. Rappers don't retire, they're just in between gigs. Kind of like Terry Funk's buddy in Beyond the Mat who was like "They might call me at any time." I won't be shocked when DMX pops up somewhere in the next year or makes him "comeback" album. But if DMX is really retiring, I'm sad to see him go. He wasn't the best rapper (the reason he was able to come out with those first 3 albums in such a short time was because he said the same thing on all of them, just with different beats), but he made good fight music. He seemed to be a better rapper in general back then than he is now. I liked more songs on his first album than the combined number of songs of his that I liked since then. And I don't really consider it a cover. It's just the chrous of the song. To put it simpler, Aerosmith did a cover of "Come Together" Eminem "RAPed" (ooh I made up a term) Dream On, in the same way Puff Daddy did to that Police song a few years back. This is true of many creative types. They get burned out for a while, lose the inspiration or whatever. But once they quit, they don't really know what to do with themselves anymore, and unless they find another outlet for their creativity, they often tend to make a comeback.
