Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted March 10, 2003 X speaks on his retirement from rap as well as 50 Cent... DMX recently told MTV that his next album, It's Not a Game, will be his last before retiring from hip-hop. X said he will continue to act and run his record label, Bloodline Records, but that his top priority will be to work in his church and be with his family. X does not want to be a stranger to his children. As for his upcoming 5th album, It's Not a Game, the album is expected to be out by summer. It is being described as the most autobiographical of all of X's albums. As for 50 Cent, DMX said the following: "He's an individual after my own heart. I'm glad he's here. Once again, hip-hop was getting a little bit too slippery, a little too shiny. So it's good, it's refreshing, to have someone bring it right back to the streets." X plans to release new albums from Big Stan, Kashmir, and Bazaar Royale soon. Ja Rule, Dr. Dre, and Master P have also vowed to retire soon. Credit: MTV Ja Rule and Master P need to hurry it up! Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted March 10, 2003 ....now who's going to sing the song for the latest Kung-Fu movie? 'Tis a sad day indeed.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted March 10, 2003 DMX better not count on his acting skills to keep him eating.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted March 10, 2003 Ja Rule: Knock yourself out. Retire, please. Master P: You're okay, sad to see you go, though. Dr. Dre: Dammit! DMX: NOOOOOOO!
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted March 10, 2003 I had no idea Master P was even still around. As for Dark Man X, the man had talent, and I'll miss him, but giving up celebrity for your family and community is never the wrong choice, IMO.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted March 10, 2003 The Last Temptation was indeed Ja Rule's final album. Both he and DMX wil pursue acting careers. Don't hold your breath, guys.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted March 10, 2003 DMX hasn't been shit since his first album. The best part of his new movie was the opening sequence when they were playing Go To Sleep. I had never heard the song and damn near marked out. DMX cannot fucking act. He delivers his lines the same way he delivers those prayers he started putting on his albums. Makes you wonder.....
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted March 10, 2003 DMX hasn't been shit since his first album. I disagree, but even going with this point, it's better to be a has-been than a never-was, and was Master P ever on top of his game? Not really, No Limit replaced the lamer aspects of Bad Boy, and was replaced by Cash Money, who's been replaced by Ja Rule. It's "pop rap", the kind of stuff that's really hot for a few months, but is quickly forgotten because there was never any substance for it in the first place. DMX has substance. When I hear a DMX song I don't think of "nostalgia" for what was hot 6 months ago.
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 The Last Temptation was indeed Ja Rule's final album. Now he just needs to "star" in a couple of "blockbusters" and we'll be rid of his talentless ass forever.
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 All of X's albums are good so whoever said that X didn't do shit after the 1st album must be a Ja fan or something. I mean he's been rapping since the late 80's so I can understand him retiring. It's going to be sad X and Jay-Z are going to retire after their albums drop this year. No, "The Last Temptation" won't be Ja's last album, Ja said he changed his mind about retiring after talking to Qunicy Jones he decided he wasn't going to retire. Ja rule needs to go back to his original plan and retire because he's already a joke now and all the gay rumors about him so he won't last long.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted March 11, 2003 DMX is a great rapper, and it is definitely a shame to see that he's planning on ending his career. It is also mad respectable that his reasoning behind it are to spend more time with his family and to help out his community. DMX, I salute you
Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Oh, This is a Sad Day Indeed. Don't worry, X will still find ways to be arrested and shit... Ja can fuck off and die for all I care... Hasn't Dre been retired for awhile now? Master P? He still around? I thought he faded away and sleeps in his Golden Tub all day long now...
Guest starvenger Report post Posted March 11, 2003 DMX cannot fucking act. He delivers his lines the same way he delivers those prayers he started putting on his albums. Makes you wonder..... Hey, it's not as if Keanu Reeves, Steven Segal, Jean Claude Van Damme etc can act either. If he sticks to the 4-weeks-and-out formula action movies he'll probably make a pretty good living. Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted March 12, 2003 X is good. Dre has been around since 1983, so it is understandable. P has been around since the late 80s, so it is understandable. Ja Rule could stay out because, he is falling into the same boat as LL.(Without the the looks/talent/and kickass tattoo). Jay Z has made about 10 to 12 CDs since 1996, a burn can develop, so I can see him retiring.
Guest Crux Report post Posted March 12, 2003 He's made a good move...now, if only he could be convinced to retire from films as well...
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 12, 2003 I was a fan of X's music. Hopefully his post-rap career will bring him good fortunes. Oh, and I hope Ja Rule choke while sucking on Ashanti's tits. Thank God 50 Cent is ripping him a new asshole.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Rap retirements are about as legitimate as boxing or wrestling retirements. Too $hort "retired" in 1996 after Gettin' It, and has made FOUR albums since then, in addition to appearing on a few compilation albums he made with his record label. Master P "retired" after MP Da Last Don in 1998 (or maybe it was Only God Can Judge Me in 1999), and has made three albums since then, in addition to a couple of 504 Boyz albums and appearing on many No Limit tracks and movie soundtracks. The only rapper who retired and STAYED retired was Ma$e, who retired after Double Up and hasn't so much as made a cameo since then. Rappers don't retire, they're just in between gigs. Kind of like Terry Funk's buddy in Beyond the Mat who was like "They might call me at any time." I won't be shocked when DMX pops up somewhere in the next year or makes him "comeback" album. But if DMX is really retiring, I'm sad to see him go. He wasn't the best rapper (the reason he was able to come out with those first 3 albums in such a short time was because he said the same thing on all of them, just with different beats), but he made good fight music. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted March 12, 2003 I wasn't referring to the commercial success of DMX's albums, I was saying that his skill level declined after his first album. He seemed to be a better rapper in general back then than he is now. I liked more songs on his first album than the combined number of songs of his that I liked since then. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Good, and take all the other rappers with you, you talentless fuck. I'm sorry, I was just alerted to the existance of Eminem's "Sing for the Moment" and I'm not in my happy place and haven't been since that day.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Well, Anglesault, As I too am a defender of Aerosmith around these parts, I must place blame on Tyler for agreeing to let Eminem cover "Dream On." Hell, Joe Perry even went into the studio and redid the Guitar parts for the song.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Well, Anglesault, As I too am a defender of Aerosmith around these parts, I must place blame on Tyler for agreeing to let Eminem cover "Dream On." Oh, without a doubt. I'm not saying that Aerosmith is blameless. They are 100 % at fault for this happening. I'm just saying that nothing is sacred. And Eminem sucks. And I don't really consider it a cover. It's just the chrous of the song. To put it simpler, Aerosmith did a cover of "Come Together" Eminem "RAPed" (ooh I made up a term) Dream On, in the same way Puff Daddy did to that Police song a few years back. Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Actually "Sing for the Moment" is a good song lyrically so I don't know why hate for Aerosmith Sample, but anyway like Redhawk said, Rappers never retire, they might dissappear (i.e. Rakim) but always comeback, so I wouldn't suprise if X came back with another album or appearance periodically basis like Rakim does. Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Saying rappers are talentless is funny, and just because Eminem sampled "Dream On", you act like he killed Steven Tyler. BTW: Flyboy, choking on Ashanti's tits isn't a bad thing.

Kind of like Terry Funk's buddy in Beyond the Mat who was like "They might call me at any time." I won't be shocked when DMX pops up somewhere in the next year or makes him "comeback" album. This is true of many creative types. They get burned out for a while, lose the inspiration or whatever. But once they quit, they don't really know what to do with themselves anymore, and unless they find another outlet for their creativity, they often tend to make a comeback. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 12, 2003 Ignorance thy name is Anglesault. What did I do now? Saying rappers are talentless is funny They're good at something I can't stand. Better? and just because Eminem sampled "Dream On", you act like he killed Steven Tyler No, I'm just saying, if you are going to do a classic song, do it in the way it was meant to be done. And don't just take pieces of the song.
