Guest Redhawk Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I hate to add to the copious amount of HHH-bashing on this board, but I've never let HHH's politics or whatever you want to call it get me all that riled up. I usually try to give him the benefit of the doubt, and as long as he's helping make a good show than I don't care who he's engaged to or who his friends are. But that "match" on RAW between HHH and Maven finally did it. That entire mini-angle was nothing but one man stroking his ego, an (sports) entertainer purposely boring the fans just to fellate himself. Now I've been watching wrestling for a combined 10 years or so, and I've seen plenty of squashes. But tonight was different. Not only could you have counted the number of moves Maven was allowed on two hands (and that INCLUDES punches), Triple H never even HIT THE GROUND. Most squashes have at least one small segment where the superstar is in SOME kind of danger from the jobber. And I'm racking my brain for squashes that did not involve "super heavyweights" in which the squasher never even took a bump, and I can't come up with any. I've seen big guys like Batista or Bradshaw destroy little guys like Crash or Chavo. But Triple H isn't a super heavyweight, and he's not that much bigger than Maven. What was the point of this? It seemed like HHH was taking his rumored real-life disdain for the "Tough Enough," the fact that RAW is now The Rock and Austin's show, the fact that he doesn't get to wrestle a Kliq member at Wrestlemania, and the fact that his little Evolution stable fell apart at the seams, and took it all out on Maven -- and the fans -- tonight. In one mini-angle a couple of weeks ago, The Rock made Hurricane look good, and tonight he might have made him into a star. And that was before their match. You heard the pop when Hurricane first showed up backstage, right? Triple H didn't have to lose tonight. In fact, he shouldn't have lost. But could he have at least let Maven get a few near-falls? Could he have let him get ONE MOVE for fuck's sake? Just a simple dropkick or something. Maybe even a suplex, who knows.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 11, 2003 If HHH is allowed to squash people in order to put Booker over, as long as it's no one of value I won't say a word.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Yeah, it was only him squashing Maven, so it is not like it really meant anything. Besides, the last couple of weeks have had HHH not squashing anyone, so it was about time. It makes sense for Maven to get squashed; Booker punked HHH out in his own locker room, so he had to go over someone that night. It wasn't Hurricane or Tommy Dreamer, so I couldn't care less. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Has Triple H or Flair even mentioned the injuries to Batista/Orton, or are Triple H and Flair now going to no-sell the Evolution stable like it never was created?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 JR mentioned the injuries.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Hunter squashing Maven may have also been a subtle hint at what appear to be racist overtones, as well as the World Champion punking out a glorified jobber for cheap heat.
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted March 11, 2003 HHH is not putting Booker T over at Wrestlemania. Booker still has that tag match win over HHH from right before NWO that he has to pay back. Funny that Rock loses to a jobber and HHH beats 2 jobbers in the same night though. Coincidence?
Guest Johnson1620 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Hunter squashing Maven may have also been a subtle hint at what appear to be racist overtones, as well as the World Champion punking out a glorified jobber for cheap heat. Considering that Maven was more or less lynched, of course they were further portraying the racist angle. It really wasn't that subtle.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I have a sig with a monkey pissing on HHH's name...and even I don't care that he squashed Maven. Maven is only taking up space for someone who must deserve it more anyway. Better he squash Maven than anyone else on the roster.

Removing my Triple H-hate-goggles, and thinking clearly, I fully agree with you on that. At least it was Maven.
Guest Johnson1620 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 This link tells the whole story about Triple H. That site is a fucking joke man. It has no place in the wrestling thread.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I'd also like to add that the red trunks . . . are very ghey.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I don't care so much that he squashed Maven. Like I said, HHH should have won the match. But look at how Hurricane fared against Rock, then look at how Maven got not only squashed, but buried.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted March 11, 2003 I'm still confused as to what this match was intended to do. --"Save face" for Hunter? How is that accomplished, when's he punking out a guy no one cares about? How about doing a sweet beatdown on Booker later in the show? --Prove a point to Booker? No. --Have Maven stand a chance in hell at beating Trips? No. --Have Al Snow stand up for a incapicitated Maven? No. Stack it up against Hurricane/Rock, which was booked in the SAME NIGHT, and it makes this match-up all the more useless.

bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2003 The purpose of the match was to do their stupid ass lynching angle. That's the real reason. Vince and Gewirtz probably think it was so clever... "See, Maven's kinda black, and it's a hangman in the ropes... like a lynching!!!" *high fives*

Anyway, I agree with J Hawk. I've never particularly cared for Maven, but even the Undertaker sold Maven's dropkick. And that's saying a lot.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted March 11, 2003 That was my reaction as well, it was just an excuse to hang a colored guy. Really brilliant, edgy stuff, as usual.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted March 11, 2003 Wasn't there just a thread yesterday that stated how Maven is improving so much lately? Well, its up to HHHe-Man to put that to rest. Just like the rest of RAW. that match was pointless.
