Lawler vs. Jim Ross?

Ok, I read a newsbit on RAW. It said that during the HHH vs. Maven match, JR chastized Lawler. JR supposedly lashed out on Lawler, but Lawler came back with a response that he was only parroting what HHH had said earlier. What happened? I tuned to another channel, since HHH/Maven was boring....

JR probably doesn't like the race-driven Booker/HHH storyline and didn't like hearing Lawler promote it as such.

Lawler kind of implied something about Maven shouldn't be wrestling cause hes black (by referencing the Booker storyline) and JR lashed out at him because, well because Lawler is a moron and because it was going a bit too far. Thats my take..

Lawler made a comment about how Maven was another one of "you people" and questioned why he was in the ring with Triple H. Considering that they'd been dancing around the issue until the opening promo that night, I think Ross thought it was a little far for the supposedly face color commentator to go.

One of Those people Lawler said....

we all picked up on it because we were all pissed off that Flair went there earlier and HHH rubbed salt in it...

Maybe JR truly did shoot in his manner on Lawler.

I'm sick of the King. He adds nothing to the show.

Yeah, because JR's "goofier than a pet coon" comments aren't racially inappropriate in the least, especially when he's directed them at Booker T in the past (WCW invasion)? I mean, "he sounded so comfortable saying it that he must be a racist." Oh, wait, where have I heard this before?

I can't stand Lawler, regardless, but IMO it was just a case Lawler doing what he's supposed to do -- reiterate the heel disposition. If what JR did wasn't scripted, then it was probably a case of him trying to put himself over. Big surprise there.

Most people got sick of Chester the Molester a long time ago. I'm one of them.

Coon means RACOON in the way JR is using it. Not a negative term for a black person.

I never thought of it as a racial sterotype, either. Having a pet Racoon is crazy, and that's all the saying is about.

Here's something from 1popups by way of Rajah:

A number of people were praising Jim Ross for scolding Jerry Lawler on the air last night after making a distasteful comment about Maven. For those of you who missed, it was something to the effect of Maven not deserving to wrestle Triple H. King did defend him self by saying he was only repeating what Triple H said. Ross then retorted by saying Lawler should really think about what he chooses to repeat. The comment was certainly not taken as "at work teasing".

Lawler is kind of in-between, though. They book him as JR's friend and hating certain heels like Morley, Storm and Regal, which makes him a face when he wrestles or the focus is on him. He roots for all the other bad guys pretty openly, and never says bad things about heel Triple H.

And has anyone noticed how even now he still kind of backs Bischoff from time to time? Or maybe I'm noticing stuff that didn't (or doesn't) happen.

Yeah, but he says that to everyone. It's not really a premeditated jab against black people if you realize it's just something he's always saying. I think it's kind of like that Howard Cosell story.

I mean, "he sounded so comfortable saying it that he must be a racist." Oh, wait, where have I heard this before?

Huh? I don't get it.

When does he put himself over? I honestly can't recall one occasion. He's just being a face, if that was scripted (we're now getting info it wasn't).

Cudos to Jim Ross for taking a stand.

And to your excellent spelling, your magnificent sense of spellature! I'm sorry ... I'm an asshole.

I thought it meant the raccoon itself was crazy.

And let's give some of those kudos to you, too!

That was classic.

But for someone to say that "Goofy as a pet coon" is racist just shows the ignorance of some people.

If JR wanted to "make a stand" he needed to grow some balls and bitch to Vince about running an angle that borders on racism in the first.

Instead JR decided to be a pussy and get pissy with Lawler for doing his job and furthering the angle Vince put into action.

JR you're spineless

Lawler, yes, we know that he loves women and the puppies, a term coined during the Attitude era, and he still hypes it like it is some money-making word. For me, he is the boring announcer. JR does his best and makes the match awesome, but Lawler would ramble on about some girl's boobs....

Everytime those damn bikini things come on, I get annoyed. They are wasting valuable time on some stupid contest that leads to nothing. Of course, I can understand the GGW cross promotion, and the Wet T-shirt contest, man, those boobies were sweet....oh no, Lawleritis is kicking in!

If that's his best it's time for him to retire. Exactly when was the last time that JR made a match "awesome"? Roughly around the last time that Lawler was still entertaining would be my guess.

JR is now too busy talking about pet coons and other such bum fuck oklahoma sayings to call a decent match. And now when JR actually tries calling the match it's even worse as he acts like he's never seen a wrestling match using moves that aren't standard moves.

Yeah, but in someone's experience they could have heard that being used in a racist way. It all depends on someone's personal experience as to how they would interpret it.

JR is a cracked shell of what he used to be. And what he used to be wasn't that great either.
