Guest bob_barron Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 ::If this belongs in CE- I apologise and feel free to move it.: Man shot dead on Ryerson campus Second victim has non-life-threatening gunshot wounds HENRY STANCU TORONTO STAR STAFF REPORTER Police were searching the area around Ryerson University after two men were shot, one fatally, outside a Victoria St. coffee shop tonight. A 29-year-old victim was taken to St. Michael's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest following the 8:45 p.m. incident, where he was pronounced dead. A second man arrived at the same hospital shortly afterwards with a non-life-threatening wound. Witnesses told police they saw a car leaving the scene north on Victoria St. and a man with dreadlocks running in the same direction. "I knew it was a shooting right away," said one witness, a man walking by on his way home from work. "I heard 'Pop, pop, pop.' And then saw a car driving off. It was a large four-door. I tried to tell the cops, but they told me to get lost," said the man who did not want to be identified. The shooting occurred outside Tim Hortons on Victoria St. at Dundas St. east, moments before crowds of students began to pour out of night classes to find a scene of flashing police lights and yellow crime scene tape. The victim managed to stagger across Victoria St. before collapsing on the opposite sidewalk in front of The Second Cup. "He wasn't doing too good," the witness said, adding, "he got it in the chest." The area, usually jammed with students during the day becomes a hangout for drug dealers in the evening and is routinely the subject of street-level police narcotic sweeps. Chief Julian Fantino stopped briefly at the scene following his weekly phone-in program "The Chief" on City-TV. Wow- that's some pretty scary stuff considering I was right near there when it happened. Hopefully this is a one time incident as I like being able to walk the streets at night without being afraid.
Guest treble charged Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Man, if that had been 2 weeks ago Monday, it could have been me. That was close.
Guest meanmaisch Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 We had a shooting at our school in April 2001. I go to school in Camden, New Jersey, which is a pretty rotten city. The school, Rutgers University, is in a fairly nice area, but its still not exactly safe. The guy was shot on campus after hours but it still scared the shit out of everyone. This guy was in one of my classes and no one knew he was dead until the professor found out a few days later. Its pretty much a given that people avoid walking off campus at night in Camden, especially after this incident.
Guest Mole Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Mean, what grade are you in? One of my friends went there to play basketball for Rutgers. She only stayed her freshman year because she didn't like the program. Her name is Saona.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Damn, and Canadians prided themselves on being the ones not to shoot up schools. I bet that guy gets it bad for proving everyone wrong.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Never had a shooting here that I can remember, but we did have a serial rapist back in October. This guy would actually break into the university dorms and wait for the girls in their rooms. He was caught after a couple weeks, but now all the girls make sure their doors are locked.
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Well, if it took a school shooting to show you that Camden wasn't the safest place, then I don't know what to tell you. I won't even get out of my car in Camden, I just drive straight through to Cherry Hill.

What school was that? I think I remember hearing something like that
Guest redbaron51 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 two years ago our school had a bomb threat... yep bomb threat and school shooting
Guest treble charged Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 When I was in grade 10, some kid threatened to kill all the smokers and girls. He was also nicknamed 'TimDog', for whatever reason, so some people took to calling me that, which was just GREAT. Anyway, some girl (who happened to smoke, as well) told the principal, the authorities were contacted, and yadda yadda yadda, he was arrested and charged and eventually went to trial. The day he said he would come to the school a lot of people stayed home, and during classes no one was allowed in the halls and teachers were told to keep doors shut during classes.
Guest redbaron51 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 ouch thats rough... we cancelled school for the day...and it was a friday before march break as well
Guest papacita Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Back in either Senior or Junior year of high school (a suburban prep school, mind you), we got two bomb threats and our cafeteria got robbed one morning (and they say the city is dangerous ). The second threat was funny because the school's big plan to keep everyone safe was roping off the second floor bathroom, and our dean flipped when the story was leaked to local news stations.
Guest What? Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 There was a bomb threat at our school, but it turned out it was just some kid yelling and making a joke. It cancelled the assembly with our hot dance squad...THAT pissed me off!
Guest meanmaisch Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Mole, I'm a senior. I'm not familiar with your friend, but if she lived on campus, I can't blame her. I don't live on campus, or in Camden for that matter, so I don't feel that unsafe when I'm there. There is a lot of security on campus, so there isn't a whole lot to worry about. Rutgers is in one of the few nice areas of the city, located in the general vicinity of the courthouse, aquarium, and Campbell Field baseball stadium. That being said, traveling to the other side of the Ben Franklin Bridge is like taking your life in your hands.
MooreMark Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Me sister goes to Ryerson and she said it wasn't students is this true?
Guest bob_barron Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 It wasn't students who got killed- it was a 29 year old man. What programme is your sister in?
Guest phoenixrising Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 In high school my senior year we had what seemed to be a fire drill that no one knew about. It turned out that a bomb threat had been called into the school. The caller? A friend of mine. He was a dork and didn't like anything at the school at all, so he just did it to screw with them. Not sure what they did about it though, never found out from him.
Guest B-X Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 When I was an 8th grader, the school I attended got a bomb threat at night. The next day, the school had been ransacked by a rival school. Green and gold were spraypainted everywhere. The words "Redneck High" and "Fucking queers" was everywhere. Plus, they knocked over our statue!
Guest BifEverchad Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 A 29-year-old victim was taken to St. Michael's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest following the 8:45 p.m. incident, where he was pronounced dead. Ah Damn! My half assed thugs can't even shoot bob_barron correctly. Better luck next time...
