Guest Steviekick Report post Posted March 13, 2003 from blabbermouth.net ANDREW W.K. has set "Blow Your Bone" as the working title for the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed debut, "I Get Wet", tentatively due in September through Island DefJam Records. "We had some problems," W.K. said of the working title during an interview with Rolling Stone. "It was supposed to be about taking a bone — like a chicken bone that a dog would want to chew on — and blowing it up with dynamite. People read into that in a weird way. Some stores said they wanted to carry the next record but didn't want that title, to the point where we were forced to change the name. It still might be called that . . . At the end of the day I'm going to do what I want to do and we'll deal with it when it comes." ANDREW W.K. is working with producer Mr. Boesch at a New York City studio and is sifting through twenty-five tracks for the effort. "Just to give a general sense," he says, "it's really going to blow the other album out of the water in terms of content and in terms of actual quantity." Among the tracks set to be included on the forthcoming album are the following: 01. Violent Life 02. Never Ending Party 03. Close Calls With Brick Walls 04. Kicks and Bricks 05. Addicted to Life 06. I Am Totally Stupid
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted March 13, 2003 Blowing up a chicken bone with dynamite? What the fuck? And that 6th track title is funny.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted March 13, 2003 Hehehe... I may lose all my metal credibility for saying this, but I can't wait to get it. I mark out for AWK.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 13, 2003 I wonder if all these songs will sound exactly alike all the songs that sounded exactly alike on the last CD. Hit one key on a piano over again, then have the rest of the band kick in and play one chord the entire song while he screams something about partying or having a good time. Here's the part I like. I like the part where he says the new album has more quantity than the last one. Is that a good selling point? This record is better because there is MORE of the same song on it! Not more quality but more quantity!! Sometimes when I'm depressed I think back to the time that everybody said Andrew WK was going to "save rock and roll" and I start laughing hysterically. Guest Eyeball Kid Report post Posted March 13, 2003 And hey, there's a song with "party" in the title. I enjoyed I Get Wet, but I have my doubts about this. His songs are just too samey.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 13, 2003 Oddly enough i can picture him sitting around and coming up with that ideal behind the name of his new album. I'd imagine that he was eating chicken wings at the time. "You guys know what would be cool...if like we took this here chicken bone and we strapped a small scale sized stick of dynamite to it" "Then when the bone exploded...everyone would like whoa you just blew your bone"

Guest Eyeball Kid Report post Posted March 14, 2003 "Critically-acclaimed debut, 'I Get Wet'" By who? They UK music press creamed over him when his album came out in the fall of 2001 (it wasn't released until spring the following year, stateside). Since this is the UK music press we're talking about, they'll probably delight in tearing him apart when this album sounds just like the last one.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2003 He's Australian right? Or is he British? I don't remember... I had just assumed that everyone ripped into him, because it was en vogue for music critics stateside in 2002, as nothing was easier.

While the NME may have blatantly done that kind of thing over and over for many moons most of the music press isn't quite as petty and will give it a fair shake. The press gave him loads of column inches over here but they weren't exactly dishing out 4-5 star reviews of the album either from what I remember.

I had just assumed that everyone ripped into him, because it was en vogue for music critics stateside in 2002, as nothing was easier. He's from Detroit, so no on both counts. As for critical response, W.K. was indeed slagged in the States, but there was a smattering of critics who "got it." Stephen Thompson, of the The Onion's AV Club, immediately comes to mind. Guest Steviekick Report post Posted March 15, 2003 I just think AWK is very catchy and entertaining, and that not enough CD's are fun any more. He's not trying to make a bold political or personal statement, just happy music.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 15, 2003 Well, he should try making GOOD happy music sometime.
