WWE Realism Edict

Recommended Posts

Guest teke184

"Recently, the WWE creative staff passed down a new ‘realism’ edict, trying to give a more realistic feel to the WWE universe.

One thing in particular that was noted by management was wrestlers calling out the names of signature moves before actually hitting them. Specifically, Rey Mysterio was told not to call out 619 anymore before executing the move.

There is concern that the edict is being enforced inconsistently, with some wrestlers reportedly noting HHH’s sledgehammer as a good example of the edict not being used for everyone."

Um...I don't want to be one to support Triple H, but by grabbing the sledgehammer, he almost has to telegraph using it.

As long as Rey still gets to use the 619, who cares? The guy being on the ropes like that telegraphs it.

Dear God, is WWE getting nitpicky.

Is this from the same source that said Vince McMahon was stopping 'crash tv' after the Katie Vick failure?

They keep enforcing new rules and changing things, but they are all meaningless changes. This was not why WWE sucks right now. WWE are idiots.

The Yankees just announced that George Steinbrenner doesn't want the catcher to give signs to the pitcher and the base coaches can't give signs to the runners.

I don't see why Rey shouldn't call for the 619. Everyone else has some sort of verbal or nonverbal signal for their finisher. Why can't he?

Because he is a midget and over. Only big men are allowed to get over.

Vince McMahon: Ok, Hurricane - I don't want you doing that flip over the top rope any more. It's just not practical.

Hurricane: Alright Mista Mickman.

Austin: You wanted to see me Vince?

Vince: Yeah, Steve, you know what you're doin tonight?

Austin: Yes, I am gonna beat up my boss, Eric Bischoff, then beat up 3 Minute Warning, Rico, Chris Jericho, Christian, a dozen security guards, and... Uh.

Vince: And Chief...

Austin: MORELY! yeah, forgot about that fella. Oops. So stunners for all of em?

Vince: You know it.

Austin: Cool.

It's not so much "telegraphing" the sledgehammer as it is the fact that a shot from a sledgehammer should cause serious damage, not just lay someone out for a few minutes.

Yeah and Jake Roberts killed every heel in the WWE with the DDT for five years and the Undertaker sat right up.

You sound like such a mark.

So does this mean, Hogan can't destroy someone with a simple legdrop?

Maybe Tank Abbot will come into the WWE and use the dreaded Heart Punch as his finish...

I've always been one to believe that the sledgehammer should only be used in EXTREME cases and matches in order to truly further something, and whoever gets hit with it should be forced to leave where ever the are hit at, on a stretcher or the such

Of course I'm a guy who feels that steel chairs should be used a LOT less, same goes for gimmick matches, so what do I know?

The Undertaker no-selling the Jake DDT was understandable for his gimmick he was portraying, that isn't even a valid argument.

Hopefully people will no-sell Rikishi's shit face.

I thought he quit doing that. The last time he had someone set up for it, he rammed into them instead of doing it, to set them up for the Banzi Drop.

Ugh, who am I kidding? He'll do it the next time out more than likely.

He didn't do in on SD, thankfully.

*Waits for the Rock to do the People's elbow next week*

So explain this to me; how does decreasing a wrestler's abillity to pop a crowd HELP the buisiness?

Its not such a bad edict if you step back a moment and just realize that its stupid for people like Test and HBK Who Stomp their boot or slap their thigh to hint to the crowd their big boot or Superkick is coming. In realism thats telling the opponent If you wanna Believe wrassling is not fake that they are about to get kicked in the face.

And there are plenty of finishers that is too Contrived I'll even mention my Favorite's the Undertaker's Last Ride Takes Too Long.... while he makes that goofy hand gesture while he got the opponent in setup mode for the Powerbomb. the guy got 30 seconds to hit Taker with a Low blow or recover enough to get a Hurricanrana. point being if your gonna hit the move, hit the move and not dramatically hint to the crowd...

I remember back in the day Even Ventura asked the question why do some wrestlers have to get fan approval, if your gonna hit a move, then hit don't wait till the crowd cheers.

It doesn't, all of this sounds like bullshit to me for the most part. I damn well miss what used to be "Pro. Wrestling". It seems as though it falls apart more and more each month. Even TNA, which is hailed as being all about tradition, has already resorted to nudity and smut bullshit, while meanwhile we have WWE participating in borderline fucking porn.

Maybe Vince feels that Rob Black is/was on to something eh? I sure as hell made THAT fed respected in the industry.

Nothing feels the same anymore, and it sucks. Even indy feds around the country have taken on traits of WWE, with many doing the stupid ass "evil owner" role. Everyone seems to be heading in the dirrection of Sports Entertainment, slowly but surely. Even my beloved NWA Wildside is doing so.

I miss Pro. Wrestling.

I miss the terms "wrestling" and "wrestler." Now all we have are "sports entertainer" and "superstar."

If they really want to make their shows feel more realistic again, they need to get rid of every cheesy backstage skit which involves a camera that wouldn't normally be there (e.g., Stephanie is shown "alone" in her office, then the door knocks. Why would a camera be in Stephanie's office in the first place?) Backstage segments should be reserved for things like attacks or interviews with the Coach.

I think good ol' Vince McMental misses the days where the crowd would eat up anything he threw at them.

To the WWe, thought = BAD.

;)

We should all cheer the Undertaker, believe HHH is the greatest wrestler ever, and that Rock is pathetic compared to Steve Austin (as JR reminded us about 50 times this Monday..)

I was just trying to use some logic. In deference to you, I'll refrain in the future.

Right. I managed to get one of the WWE programs when I was at SD and it's worth it for just the knee-slappingly hilarious propaganda.

It reminds you that Rey Mysterio beat Kevin Nash "one of the greatest big men to ever lace up the boots."

Or that Triple H is "powerful beyond belief and intelligent beyond description" it's "nearly impossible to outthink him" and "if you are one of the few who can overpower him, his technical savvy and methodical approach to dismantling foes has overcome even the strongest men in the world."
