Kurt Angle admits he is risking paralysis or death at WrestleMania

Kurt Angle admitted to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he is risking "paralysis or maybe even death" by wrestling at WrestleMania, but says precautions are being taken.

He said that he has received medical clearance as long as he and his opponents know what is off limits in his match.

He confirmed our reports earlier that he has two bulging disks, and eventually he'll need to have career-ending surgery. He was more optimistic in the article than he is privately about his chances of wrestling after WrestleMania. He also made some worked comments about how he might wrestle after WrestleMania if he happens to retain the title at Mania. (There is a chance he'll retain the title, then if he has to retire, retire as champion and relinquish the title; at least such talk removes the feeling of Brock inevitably winning headed into the big match.)

This is a fucked up situation - so if he DOES get seriously injured at Mania, who's at fault?

he will be, in all probability. We'll likely get a super safe kind of match, which means we may get a technical clinic.

Which I'd love, personally.

Vince's. He is the guy who should step in and not allow Kurt to wrestle.

Dammit. I hope Kurt doesn't screw things up at Wrestlemania.

All I can say is that he better fucking receive a place in WWE Hall of Fame for this.

Hey, that's a neat idea. Have him win, but relinquish the title to Brock after Wrestlemania. That would give an ULTRA rub to Brock if Angle said something along the lines of him deserving it the most or something. It would cement Brock as a main event player forever, and give Kurt a good way to go out.

I don't think the marks would respect Brock for losing the match then accepting the belt. If anything, Vince will want Brock to squash Kurt and then forever be known as the guy who retired Kurt.

This is Kurt's decision not Vince's. If the doctor cleared Kurt there's nothing Vince can do. Let's pray that Lesnar doesn't work sloppy or screw up and if they keep it on the mat, WITHOUT an German suplexes, then it could go off well.

And if this is his last match it would be classy to allow him to retire champion.

Ermmm, he's wrestling at WrestleMania?

I truly hope you didn't spoil SD for me, heh.

As of right now, the match is on between Brock and Angle. Nothing has been said on WWE tv to the contrary.

NO! Do not break the lineage of the title again!

Do NOT make the title a joke!

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Kurt SHOULD HAVE jobbed to Brock on SmackDown this week, but he talked Vince into letting him have afinal hurrah.

If he gets hurt, it's just one man's fault: Kurt Angle's. And he knows that.

Retiring as champion, as noble as it may seem in this situation, is a HORRIBLE idea 99% of the time. It is usually the champion's way of saying "F*ck you... none of you could beat me." Putting someone over in their retirement match is a long-time tradition for a reason... ESPECIALLY if the wrestler in question is champ.

Whenever I think of a proper sendoff for Kurt, I relive Hogan/Warrior at Wrestlemania VI in my mind (that is, if that was indeed Hogan's last match for a while). IMO, Brock/Kurt doing a Hogan/Warrior send-off would do wonders for Brock's future...and for Kurt's legacy.

Ummm, ok, I just thought it was basicly confirmed, and they were just waiting to say something about it on WWE TV.

I will not say much about this, but I will say that I do not feel he should do it. If I say anything else, I'll get carried away.

Great! Since this is WWE, and the idea is a bad one, I know they'll do it! I didn't say it'd be a good idea as far as how strong people are booked goes, it'd just be the best scenario I could think of as a fan.

At least acknowledge the injury on television and let the fans decide who to cheer for at Wrestlemania.

Ultimately, it's a damned stupid, foolish thing to do. He's got too much to risk going out there one last time, ultra safe match or not. He may have buried himself too far in professionalism and kayfabe to think clearly, and it may end up really hurting him in the end.

But I have all the respect in the world for him. This simple act of stupid courage has honestly had an effect on how I've been thinking about some other things. May God be with you, Kurt Angle. Thanks, man.

Dames, when you altered my post, you could have at least corrected the grammatical errors.

You'd think all this talk about Angle defending at WrestleMania would tip off the spoiler bitches anyway but... oh well.

The hell? This totally came out of left field. When did it go from "out for a year" to "out forever"?

Also, what's the difference between wrestling on Smackdown and wrestling at Wrestlemania?

One is Smackdown.

One is WRESTLE F'N MANIA. The biggest show in the business.

Unless I missed the point of your question.

Because on SD! you can have a ten minute match, at 'Mania it has to be 15:00 minutes in the least.

Kurt wants it for the payday, and the respect from the boys it will get him. He's no martyr.

Is anybody here going to be able to enjoy this match? I'm not. Everytime Angle does ANYTHING, I'm going to cringe and wonder how he can do it.

This is a lose/lose situation in my eyes.

A part of me will cringe during the match, TC. But part of me knows that Kurt's a gutsy bastard that probably doesn't want the fans to worry and to just enjoy what might be his final go. I intend to do just that.

For awhile I was strongly against Angle wrestling at WrestleMania, but I have changed my stance. If this truly is his last time in the ring, then he should go out with a bang. Also if it is his last time in the ring, I will be devastated for quite a while. The man's WWE career hasn't even reached 4 years yet and he may have to retire already. Why is it all the great ones leave so early, like Dynamite Kid. Here's to a great match at WrestleMania and a sucessful surgery and recovery.

If there's a possibility it could be three discs, I almost have to agree with his choice. There's still the risk, but Dreamer wrestles with two disks every week.

When did Dynamite leave early? Man kept on coming back to bury his ghost. Almost twenty years.

There needs to be a group of people who for the SDs before mania need to bring a shitload of signs asking him not to wrestle at WM.

If Kurt has to retire because of this surgery it will suck so badly. He is one of teh greatest WWE superstars around. Plus, its not like he can just hang around as a manager, that would be to strang.

I hope Kurt's surgery goes well, and then he can somehow manage to hold off on the other one for a few more years.

Who knows, by then they might have a new type of surgery that doesnt require him to retire.

If he didn't get injured/abuse drugs, the man could have went wrestling great matches for years to come. The guy is like 45 now. He has been retired for over 10 years, so how was he wrestling for 20?
