BUT... why give up our permanent veto? If the French want to be pussies, we can start vetoing stuff that they need until they start playing the game. I guaran-goddamn-tee that if Algerian terrorists are rumored to be planning a strike on Paris that the French won't be asking for inspections of desert camps before they try to do something about it.

We still have two large towers full of office space that needs to be restored, and the UN building would be a nice renovation project for something like that.

Let's be clear: I'm aware that the UN leeches our funding, our nation's land (their headquarters) and our military. I agree that it doesn't benefit us much.

 

However, the symbolism of pulling out of all alliances is too grave at this point in time. It makes me feel like we're the bad guys here, and we're willing to take on the world to do whatever we want to do.

Would we also pull out of NATO, given their lack of support as well? Of course, I don't see how a Persian Gulf affair is the business of a NORTH ATLANTIC Treaty Organization, but we might pitch a fit about their lack of support as well.

We at least have some support right now. Just because some countries don't see the slaughter of tens of thousands of people as necessary, doesn't mean they are saying "fuck you".

The U.N. is our bitch. Or they're supposed to be, but they've managed to utterly embarass us here, so they deserve our wrath and some sort of punishment.

 

We're using their mandates as justification for attacking Iraq, which irks me (they should have made the argument based upon the war on terrorism, but I doubt anyone would have cared), but other than that, I really don't see much worth in continuing to be a part of an illegitimate organization that spends a majority of its time chastising us. Or Israel.

The majority of the countries opposing us in the U.N. are doing so because they hate us or they have some sort of economic relationship with Saddam which we threaten to destroy by our war. This is so NOT about the morality of war, despite whatever rhetoric comes out of the U.N.

If you truly think we should go it alone, with the world at our back, I have to question your sanity.

 

Step off of YOUR high horse and realize that if we want to be the fucking crusaders of the world, we need to at least be the GOOD GUYS in this. By seperating ourselves from the world and throwing them out on the street, we make ourselves the bad guys who cried because nobody else supported us in our stupid little holy war.

 

By going it alone, this makes us no better than our enemies; we're pursuing an unpopular, even hated war where people think WE'RE WRONG.

Yeah, and I think he's gonna be a hell of a lot less cooperative about it, given the fact that we've got 500,000 troops at his back door.

Which he may or may not.

 

However, if he does, you can bet he'll definitely use them now, costing a ton of unneeded casualties (if we'd just bulk up the fucking inspections and give them the necessary intel, this might not have been the case).
