Likely location of WM XX and SummerSlam 2004

Recommended Posts

Guest GameCop

RajahWWF.com -- WrestleMania XX is slated to emanate from MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. Yep, it's going back to where it all started! It looks like Vince McMahon has no intention of messing with tradition.

SummerSlam 2004, however, is scheduled to take place at a domed stadium -- a venue usually reserved for WrestleMania PPV's.

Meh. Rather early for this stuff. I imagine at this point they're thinking about it, but haven't made any calls. They usually don't have this kind of stuff planned until July.

I'm guessing that over the next few months they'll wake up, realize WM sells a lot better than the others, and have it at the Silverdome or whatever, and SummerSlam at MSG.

No way. The second decade of Wrestlemania should be at MSG, just like the 1st and 10th.

Have Summerslam wherever the hell they want.

SummerSlam will probably be held in a small-ish dome. A place like Tampa would probably be good for it, as they could probably fit 50,000 people in there.

There's no way they could get the same crowd if not more as Mania 3 to the Silverdome. No way will that happen, nor should.

MSG works for me, figured this was the location anyway. Although they wont make as much revenue off ticket sales as they would in a stadium, they can charge a enormous rate for ticket prices and still make out damn good in all likelihood. Plus who knows how this company will be faring within a year so sticking to a sure thing in MSG is smart.

Actually they make the desicion on the next Mania in MOST cases before the one preceding it, meaning they very well might have MSG secured for sure. Don't you remember when they would always announce the location of next years Mania at the preceding one itself? They even did that as recently as Mania 16.

BTW, I'm crossing my fingers for SummerSlam 2004 (or hell, 2003 for that manner) to be in Minneapolis at the Metrodome but I doubt it will ever happen.

If there's something I learned about this company, it's that money talks and everything else (tradition included) walks.

If business picks up in the next year, then sure. If not, they'll recognize that WM is pretty much the one thing they got left that's guaranteed to sell out and act appropriately.

True. I guess they could take it to one of the stadiums in the area that's sorta kinda replaced the SilverDome (or left it looking old) and still do the same rah rah parade about WM3 and everything.

They should have some PPVs at one of those new fancy Stadiums with the retractable roofs so that they could do some open air PPVs weather permitting.

However i don't know if there's any small enough for WWE use. Most of them are rather big football stadiums.

They aren't going to Tampa anytime soon. They wanted to have WMX8 there, but realized the walk from the locker room to the ring would be over a mile long and decided that wouldn't work. Sorry to those of you in Tampa.

And while they do start looking for WM venues now, they DON'T have them locked up over a year in advance like they might have in years past. At this time a couple years ago, Tampa was the front-runner for X8 and you see where that got them. I think the decision now is reached in the late summer, with the announcement coming the next time the WWE is in that city.

They could have brought back those bad assed ring carts seen in WM 3 and 6.

People need to also realise that MSG = way higher ticket prices = similar profits even with a smaller crowd.

They could have SS at Miller Park here in Milwaukee. Around 42,000 seats for baseball and it has a retractable roof so you have the option of open or closed depending on weather.

Exactly. They can make just as much profit with higher ticket prices. It should be at MSG and should cost more because it is the 20th anniversary of the damn event.

I think we've all figured WMXX to be at MSG since 1994. As for Slam 2004, It's interesting that they already looking for a location...Means they might be intending for something big...If it does go down at a Dome...Don't expect Superdome or Silverdome or even Astrodome...Likely it's gonna be GeorgiaDome or Carrier Dome.

If they could get a draw they should go back to the Silverdome, 3 was the biggest show they've ever had...go back to your roots.

Plus I wasn't able to go to Mania 3, and I want to see a Wrestlemania live.

If they don't do the Superdome for Summerslam, they need to do a smaller PPV (like Vengeance) at the Cajun Dome, which holds about 10,000 to 15,000 IIRC. I'd want a PPV in my hometown, but the Centroplex = ass.

They would be better off going to Ford Field because Aren't the seats Retractable? So if you don't sell alot...You can easily manipulate the seats and make it look better.

WM3 won't be beaten...No matter what even if they put on the greatest show ever...It will be called a Failure because they didn't have 93,000 people there.

I say leave WM3 alone...Don't even waste your time with it because Vince will do everything in his power to outdraw That show.

WMXXI ought to be outside of America and Canada...Have it in Mexico. Same Time Zone and you likely have a good market...It would be good because you likely secure a sell out crowd...I dunno if they have any good Americanized Venues though...But I am sure they have to.

Mexico's a bad option because the peso = ass compared to the dollar and the country's economy is in the crapper, meaning less people will have the disposable income to buy overpriced WWE tickets. They'll do stupid stuff like jacking up the ticket prices and will end up getting FAR less revenue than expected.

Put Summerslam 2004 at Arrowhead Stadium.

It'll be the summer in KC, making it a bit hot, but not rainy.

Plus, Arrowhead would seat around 80,000 easily.

Unless there's an retractable roof Vince won't take on the headache of an open air PPV.

You bring up a good point, would WWE WrestleMania XXV be at Madison Square Garden because wouldn't that be too soon to build up a huge anniversary thing.I think it would be awesome if they bought out some ground in Stamford,Connecticut around WWE Headquaters knocked down some buildings and built a semi-big stadium there and had a WWE WrestleMania at WWE Headquaters but that would never happen.I think this year at Safeco Field will be awesome.

Thanks.

They most likely wouldn't bring them back because they were cartoonish and aren't "cool" or "hip". Although if they were so intent on making them "cool" they could have given them a 21th Century makeover.

As for WrestleMania XX being in MSG, YES!!! I am SO THERE! I have made it my mission to get tickets to WrestleMania XX.
