Anyone else almost "not care" about WWE...

Recommended Posts

Guest Space_Cowboy

I've been caring less and less for a long time now. I still love to watch wrestling, but i've gone from never wanting to miss a second to not caring if i watch the shows at all. I'll still follow what's going on, but i really just don't care about it like i used to.

Late 2002 just fucking killed it for me. Right after Summerslam when HHH became champion everything just went to absolute hell. Sure, you had the **** SD match every week, but Raw was just hell. I never want to go back to late 2002 again for WWE TV because it was hell.

Pinjockey, thank you for saving me the time writing that ;)

I had this overwhelming feeling a few weeks ago, it was total and absolute apathy towards the WWE and it's product. It was a very weird feeling. Usually I like it or don't like it - but I never feel indifferent about it. If things remain the same, come fall, I know I won't be watching. And you know what, it doesn't bother me a bit. I mean, it's sad that this decade+ long relationship will come to an end, but I won't miss the product one bit. Fuck You Vince.

Another thing that has made me stop really caring is the embarrasment that it brought for a stretch there. And I am not talking the typical "Oh how can you watch that fake crap" type of stuff, but the last time I had non-fans over to watch it was the Vince McMahon kiss my ass club. After seeing that they asked me how I could watch such crap and I couldn't answer. Since then I won't watch with non-fans, if there is a friend in the room I will switch the channel because I can't trust it not to make me look like an ass.

You actually watched RAW with friends? Non-Fans for that matter?

Wow.

I've been ashamed of the WWE for a VERY long time.

Guys, lemme let you in on a lil secret... It's called Mixed Martial Arts... Companies like the UFC and Pride want you to watch, they like you, they want to make you happy. Vince McMahon hates you, he really does hate you. He thinks you are stupid, he doesn't want you watching his 'sports entertainment'. MMA is something you can be proud of and it has many of the pro wrestling elements you are looking for in the WWE but just aren't getting.

That's the biggest part of it for me also. From the KMA shit to Billy/Chuck getting married/relationship (although I loved the Bishoff thing) simulated sex with dead people to GGW, it's sad.

Do they not realize that this does not help at all?

I now have to watch wrestling with my hand on the remote in fear that someone will see something totally f'd up out of the blue, and it shouldn't be like that.

Ah, yes another factor. The utter disdain shown to the true die-hard wrestling fans. Heaven forbid someone care enough about the product that they will speak their mind when the product sucks.

Vince doesn't even like his casual fans - but he HATES people who actually are loyal to his product.

I think it's because of his 'out-of-wrestling' failures. The XFL in particular. The Wrestling fans didn't support him, they didn't carry over and stay with the XFL like he assumed they would. The XFL was a failure and Vince was exposed as being a one-hit wonder... Which is what Vince has been trying to show the world he isn't... he hates us for it. He hates us for his failures.

Great Info and some really kick-ass montages in the video section. The message board has an 'ask the fighters' section where guys like Gary Goodrich, Bas Rutten, Enson Inoue, Tom Erikson, sometimes come on and chat it up.

It's too bad that it wont mean ANYTHING now.

See, this is your problem. Stop caring about the long run and enjoy or slam the product on a show-by-show basis. Stop caring about pushes and other things that only really influence the success of the company.

Oh God, don't remind me. I'll never forget my mom asking me on the phone if I saw "the wrestlers getting married" that very night (I hadn't, as I didn't get cable in my then-new place until the next day). Yet another moment where I was embarassed to be a wrestling fan.

RRR, I don't think Vince hates everyone and doesn't want anyone to watch his product, but hates anyone who doesn't automatically accept what he puts out and who doesn't pay the $30-$40 a month (or more) for it. Well, sorry, I just can't do that, Vince. And frankly I just don't want to be identified with a lot of your target fanbase. It may be arrogant of me to say this but it's the truth.

When it comes down to it, I think I am loyal to the wrestlers that impress the holy hell out of me on a consistent basis, but not really to the company itself.

Those people will always exist.

They were saying the same things when Mark Henry was dating transvestites, but the show was more popular then so they weren't heard.

It's not like The KMA Club is any further downhill than the other "shock" angles that were pulled back when the ratings were huge.

No, Vince McMahon hates his fans. That's the only logical explanation for the insanely stupid decisions he has made over the past *checks watch* 2 1/2 years... I really can't think of another reasonable explanation. "Vince McMahon is a Moron" lasted me for so long - now I have to believe that he is intentionally putting out a sub-par product and completely ignoring his fanbase because he hates us.

See, this is your problem. Stop caring about the long run and enjoy or slam the product on a show-by-show basis. Stop caring about pushes and other things that only really influence the success of the company

Here's the point - he doesn't care anymore.

That isn't MY problem, it's Vince's problem. I can't enjoy something and think it's actually worth anything, if I know damn well that next week it will all be in vain. Pro. Wrestling isn't a show by show program, it's a long term form of entertainment which one must follow, and what happens now SHOULD have an effect on what happens later. It's all about pushes, storylines, and angles, WWE is anyhow. If I want to watch something just for the wrestling, I'll do so by watching Puroresu or the such.

In WWE, I as a Pro. Wrestling fan deserve solid programs to go with the wrestling. There is no reason to care, when you've been shown that what happens doesn't truly matter at all. There is no reason to care when you have been let down time after time. There is no reason to care, and I only pray that changes soon.

I know exactly what you mean. My dad walked in during the kiss my ass club shit, and looked at me and asked "how can you watch that crap?", and I couldn't answer.

I too have stopped caring to an extent. My enthusiasm picked up somewhat with the return of the Rock, but after Wrestlemania both Rock and Kurt may be gone for good, leaving Hosses galore and Triple H resorting to pathetic levels in order to get any kind of heat. Thats what kills my enthusiasm for the product more than anything else, I can't see it getting better for a long time.

That is NOTHING compared to my cousin's very religious father walking into the room while we were watching RAW, and it just so happened to be when HHH was seemingly fucking a dead person. I have never been so ashamed to be a Pro. Wrestling fan in my life, it made even ME to sit back and think about just what it was that I was seeing.

His father loves Pro. Wrestling, but REAL Pro. Wrestling. He, just like myself, just doesn't feel shit like that belongs in this "sport".

That was about the most ashamed/embarrased I've ever been actually. Him asking how we could watch it, why we were watching it, and everything else just sucked ass. I couldn't answer him, all I could do is say "I don't know".

Well, I admit I've gone from having my chips and soda ready at 6PM to suddently looking up from my computer at 6:15PM and going "Oh, it's on?"

I guess I misinterpreted your issues as The Usual Complaints: "I can't stand to watch WWE anymore because they won't give RVD the ball." "I hate these bait and switch finishes" (Hey people, they've done bait and switches for the past six or seven years now, probably longer.) "I hate how Raw rotates around HHH" (you mean like how Raw rotates around Austin in the late 90s?)

If your general complaint is "I'm not feeling it anymore" than yeah I'll agree. I remember when Raw ended way back when I could practically count down the seconds to the next one, I was so eagerly looking forward to it.

I think a combination of overexposure (seven or more hours of programming a week is enough to make someone tired of anything) plus general bitterness and skepticism that comes naturally after having been a fan for so long.

If I could point to a place where it started going down hill, I'd say it was about June of '01. Since then most of the shows have been a chore to sit through with the late '02 being the worst by far, at least on the Raw side. I can't really see anything improving since there isn't any serious competition, so until then I suppose my tape/DVD collection will keep growing at a faster pace with Puro and old stuff.

I don't even think they should give RVD the title right now, or anytime soon, so that is VERY much not my point, lol. I would be fine if they used the same guys for right now if they just did it in any way that was worth a damn. I do think they should push some new people, but that isn't my point at all, as you have figured out.

Honestly, every RAW, every smackdown, is the SAME SHOW. They have put on the same show with the same format, since 1997. It's like clockwork. "Cue Interview" "Cue Backstage" "Cue short match" "Cue Run in" it's all completely by-the-numbers.

I started feeling the way Downhome feels now in late 2000.  Sure, there have been glimmers of hope like WM17, Jericho winning the undis. title, and Hogan v. Rock match at WM18.  However, more times than not, the product has been so stale that I just havent given a damn.  From 1996-2000, I planned things around monday nights 9-11pm.  Now, I go weeks without seeing a show.  When I do find myself watching, its the same old uninspired crap.

Exactly how I feel. Before I LOVED the WWF and would watch every single show, even Jakked. Since late 2000 the product has been getting worse and worse and more and more stale and I've slowly lost interest. First it was the B shows like Jakked and Heat. Then it was Smackdown, then RAW, then ppvs. Now I barely watch. I feel like I only follow what's going on out of habbit. I seriously cannot remember the last time I watched a WWE show and was excited. It makes me very sad that their horrible creative team has sucked the life out of my interest in a hobby.

Yeah, I agree with the general sentiment on here. I just don't care anymore. I still watch, but I generally just busy myself with work or other tasks while it goes on in the background, and if I hear something interesting, I'll turn around and watch. It used to be that I would settle myself down on the couch for the entire show and really enjoy myself. I used to look forward to Monday and Thursday nights. Now I could care less.

The only television habit I still have is my sunday night fox lineup (futurama, simpsons, king of the hill), and that's about it. That's the only thing I still look forward to on television.

And now with Kurt Angle potentially retiring...well, I may just watch on rare occasions after that.

Many you know that I posted here as Risk, GenerationNever, and a variety of other names. I had a high post-count and was 1/2 of the tag champs in the parody fed the OAOAST. Then I suddenly left. There are many reasons why I left. One of those reasons was that I was burnt out by the product. I missed several months of wrestling because of this.

I NEVER thought I could stop watching on a consistant basis. Never. But I did. Because of this I missed many "great" angles such as Al Wilson, Katie Vick, Big Show as World champ, Triple H, ect. Looking back, it was a good decision to make. I used to be able to watch Raw and feel happy. Even a crappy day could seem good when I watched. Now I simply watch out of habit. There's really nothing else to say.

Just look at this thread, I mean, damn. Almost everyone here have agreed that it just doesn't "feel right", or even more than that. Why in the hell don't anyone listen to us? Even the casual fans feel the same I believe, I know many who do.

Just sit back, look and this thread, and just ask yourself...

..."why don't they listen?".

Yeah, shit, back in 2000 when there was wrestling on EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week I made sure that I watched it.

I barely ever catch heat - usually only before a PPV so I can see what the set is like.

I haven't watched a full eps. of Smackdown in the longest time.

Velocity is hit and miss.

Raw, sadly, is the show I watch the most often merely because of convenient sheduling.

And if I miss any of em... ah well, didn't miss anything important... clockwork as usual.

I ask myself that at least once a week. And it just makes me so sad. Not even really angry, sad and disappointed.

And yes, it is not just the hardcore. ALL of my friends, who were casual marks, have completely lost interest.

I can't understand it. Why is Vince so obsessed with his own ideas? How many failures is it going to take him to realize "shock tv", "swerves", "huge returns", ect. is not the answer!?

I still care about the Smackdown brand, which is why the Angle news was so devastating.

You should go to other boards out there and post the same thing.

I know a few where there's quite a few from the Attitude/MTV generation who swallow anything Vince puts out (411, LOP, Rajah) as well as a few from the older generation who justify everything Vince does (CRZ's board).

If not for anything else, just for my amusement as the apologists come out of the woodworks.
