Anyone else almost "not care" about WWE...

Recommended Posts

Guest humongous2002
The moment that Vince McMahon's face was on my TV the moment the last Mondy Night Nitro, is the moment that I first started felling like this. My heart fell to the ground, and I knew in my heart that bad times were a comin', heh. I've had moments of hope, and mark out moments obviously, but in the end it meant nothing, nothing in the past two years has meant anything. Just look at the product, we are right back where we were two years ago basicly, simply with a change here and there.

I'll still mark out when I can, I'll still enjoy seeing "my guys" perform, but as of right now my care for WWE as a whole is going south, and only the fuck ups in WWE can change that, by doing something different, shaking things up, and doing just SOMETHING damnit.

Believe me a lot of us felt the same way when Vince appeared on the last Nitro, i was marking out at the beginning but then i felt that something wasn't right.

Nowadays i've been finding myself very frustrated after watching RAW and SD, watching my favorite wrestlers getting big pops and busting their asses in the ring but getting buried at the same time, watching wrestling is not fun anymore and the more i loose interest the less i watch, good thing i got old NWA ,WWF,WCW and ECW tapes to remind me how good it used to be back then.

It's really become a chore for me. I kind of feel I have to watch, but I can't get myself motivated most of the time

I agree, as for the past few shows I was actually relieved that it was over. Like I said, I'll always watch, I'm a slave to it, but I really am not into it as I know I should be.

Damnit Vince, you are killing off my enthusiasm for what I love!

In one word. Ditto.

Don't get me wrong I still love to watch, it's just that something is missing these days. And without 'it', RAW and SmackDown! just aren't the same as they use to be.

despite the occassional mark out moment... gotta say im in the same boat...

Goodear makes a good point though.

If you still watch then you must still care.

I still care a great deal or else I wouldn't go to every live event I can

Guys, I've tried to be optimistic about the product. I've tried to get emotionally involved, you know to truly care, start to look at the company. I've seen HHH burying everyone on Raw and not even getting a slap on the wrist. I've seen talented cruiserweights get treated like jokes, while 7 foot monsters get pushed as the superstars of tomorrow. I've seen Vince trot out old acts only for them to bomb within a month. I've seen hardworking, popular stars get their legs cut out from underneath them, and then blamed their feuds failing. I've seen some of the most non-sensical, stupid, things get shilled as shocking and innovative. It doesn't take a rocket scienist to figure out that something is seriously wrong here. I mean I used to be the number one WWF fan, the guy who said he would never stop watching. But now there's no passion left. Only apathy. I still care about WWE and its superstars, but there's only so much I can take. More and more I'm considering not watching anymore. It just not worth the feeling of seeing something you used to love so much slowly die because their leader is so damn stubborn about his so-called genius ideas and is unwilling to anything about it.

Like I said, I'm loyal to the wrestlers who impress me. I'm NOT loyal to a company that tells me what to like, expects me not to think when watching their product, and who treats me like an abused spouse. Period.

For me it is all the lame backstage skits and drawn out long promos that go nowhere that hurts my interest.

Why can't they just let the wrestlers put on a show in the ring?? I get tired of almost all matches on TV being short spot fest squashes. The Guerreros vs. Benoit & Ryhno match from this last Smackdown is how almost all the matches should be done.

Now it is just sports entertainment,.... so I guess I miss pro wrestling!

(evil X/WCW mark mode)

Ha! It seems as though ever since WCW got bought out by the WWF, the WWF/E went in a decline. We had the awesomeness that was Wrestlemania X-7, then what was the main event on the PPV right after that?

Austin/HHH vs. Taker/Kane

Lame, yo. WWE acquired WCW and its curses as well, I guess. YOU WANTED TO KILL WCW VINCE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WCW KILLED YOU..FROM WITHIN. MUAHAHAHAH!

Well at least they got Booker T out of the whole deal, right?

"The end comes not with a bang, but with a whimper."

The only thing I can compare this to is the Simpsons. It was 1998 (or was it 99) and I was small talking with a hockey teammate before a practice. It was Sunday, 9 or 10 O'clock.

Me: "So, did you see the new Simpsons eps?"

Him: "Nah, I don't watch that show any more, it just sucks now"

Me: "WHAH! What do you mean?"

Him: "It's just not good any more, Homer is a jackass."

Me: "Yo, Homer rules!"

Him: "No, Homer is an asshole now"

I left that convo thinking "boy, is he ever wrong". It took a view weeks to see he was right. Then, slowly, I just stopped watching. I haven't watched Simpsons in 3 or 4 years now.

You don't just say "hey, I'm going to stop watching" - it takes time to break the habit.

I think we all WANT to care. But quite simply they haven't given us much to care about.

For example, I want to believe that Booker defeats HHH clean at WM, wins the rematch, and has a nice healthy title reign where he fights off a few other heels. But I just can't bring myself to believe any of it. Because I've been disappointed time and time again, I can't allow myself to get emotionally involved with the match.

The Angle injury is a severe blow to us. He's going to be gone real soon, and since a lot of the people on this board at least respect Angle if they don't outright worship him, his absence robs us of one more thing to care about.

You know why I think fans like Brock? It's not because of his style or promos, or even his win streak. It's because he's NEW. He's one of the few new things that aren't treated like a total joke. Although if they kept listening to Taker, he probably would have been.

You know, I think that relates to this scenario in more ways than one. You didn't start disliking the Simpsons because you was like "This sucks" you started disliking the Simpsons because you were watching the Simpsons with new information. You was watching thinking "He thinks Homer sucks..." so then anytime Homer would do anything that wasn't absolutely hilarious, you would think he was a fucktard.

Apply that to wrestling. Would we all dislike wrestling if we didn't read about Triple H's backstage pull, or his engagement to Steph? Would we know who wrote the different segments to begin with? Nope. We'd prolly like RAW a lot better too.

I went to watch the last WWE PPV at BW3's and this guy behind me actually stated "That's gonna be a match and a half..." he was talking about Austin Vs. Bischoff. The match that I was actually dreading. Tell me being a mark wasn't more enjoyable when it came to watching the product.

They say ignorance is bliss. But I would rather not be blissfully ignorant. I would rather be unhappy than be happy about a lie.

How can I care about the crap that goes on tv now? When some angles never get finished or go off on a tanget.

Example 1: Teddy Long has been doing the "Support the Brother/I hate the Man" gimmick with D-Lo and Rodney Mack that goes nowhere on Heat while on Raw Booker T vs HHH is doing the "I am above you" crap yet these angles never crossover. So I ask where is the Teddy Long love for Booker T? Its the same damn angle, Booker desperatley needs a manager to make him look credible in promos or interviews.

Example 2: Goldust was beat up by HHH group and became Studdering Dustin. Again why has not Booker T used this as a reason to get revenge? Now Goldust is just in the backstage just getting coffee for Austin. Breaking up the tag team relationship was a bad decision and the injuries made it worst.

I lost my WWE smile along time ago

But HHH would still bury guys like RVD, Booker, Kane, etc. HHH would still wrestle bad matches. It *is* possible to dislike the WWE without the internet, you know? The WWE still puts on a bad product. A long, stupid, skit is still a long stupid skit - no matter who wrote it.

I would have hated the simpsons anyways - my eyes would have opened sooner or later. The moment where I felt complete apathy towards the WWE was when I realized, while watching, that they put on the same show over and over and over again. I knew it before, but that was the moment when I *knew* it.

Same here.

Funny how WCW's demise could lead to the WWE's own demise. A Symbiosis of sorts...

Right...but if you didn't read the net, would you even care about workrate? Shit, if I didn't read the net, Triple H would probably be the best thing since sliced bread. If I didn't read the net, why would I care about Kane or Booker T? Just because they are faces? I'd probably still cheer for Triple H...because he NEVER loses.

Just like hogan as a kid...

I'm still getting 'Mania because it feels dirty to not get it, but I'm fully expecting to be disappointed this year, especially after last year.

Who knows though....... they might just pull something outta their arse.

I'll post more later, but to the guy who asked "Woukld you like Raw better without knowing the backstage stuff?"

..you'd be amazed, actually.

I watch Raw with a varying ammount of people (anywhere from 2-4, depending on circumstances). Two of us are smarks, one's a hardcore fan, and the other is a casual.

When people not in the know suspect something is up with HHH, that's BAD.

~*~

And with Vince/Us..

I believe he DOES hate us as hardcore fans. Why? He wants to go back to the "Golden Days" before people started thinking. When he could push his beloved talentless Hosses, squash a few small guys, and draw a huge house with Hogan v Heel every week. He dosen't really like the fact we don't eat up everything he throws at us, or that we reject stuff he loves (KMA club, Necrophilia, A-Train..)

The fans want Wrestling.

Something he abandoned, stepped on, and pissed all over for years. He hates it because he didn't invent it, like he supposedly did with his beloved Sports Entertainment.

Just look at all the stops he's had to pull out over the last year. The nWo, Flair, Michaels, Steiner, Austin (who's not getting accepted as well as he thinks), and The Rock.

Just on SD, Benoit and Angle were both getting great face reactions before Angle was turned for the 9,405'th time. RVD was very over until somebody took time out to squash that. Jericho's over as a face or heel if he gets a chance..which is rare.

None of those guys were ones Vince WANTED pushed, but got over anyway. All have been punished for that in some fashion.

Out of all Vince's experiments, only Lesnar has halfway succeeded in breaking through..and HE had to deal with the bullshit somewhere along the line.

When the owner hates you, the people in power hate you, and the fans love you..what chance does anyone not very built/Hoss qualifications stand?

None at all.

(Another mini-rant: The constant mistreatment of guys like Angle, because VKM thinks "You Suck" is funny, or that guys with intelligent characters have to be humilliated every week..)

I haven't looked forward to a ppv in as long as I can remember...probably Vengeance 2001 because I liked the idea of unifying the titles and the guaranteed matches in the main event. I don't watch SD! unless I remember that its on...and I only watch RAW because it's been habit since 93! I haven't LIKED a Raw in a long long long long time. If RVD left the WWE...I wouldn't watch anymore. I'm almost sure of it.

Jago: If I didn't get on the net, I'd probably find spotfests to be better than solid wrestling matches, and I'd be an even bigger RVD mark.

At the king of my markdom I thought Hogan was the worst wrestler I've ever seen. Brawlers bored me.

I only got on the net around Survivor Series 2001...and I still was a huge Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude and so on fan.

Moreso than guys like Hogan...who I always hated. I watched mania 3 when I was 8 years old...and I hated Hogan because he flat out sucked.

You can be a fan of better "wrestlers" without internet influence. Hell...since joining the internet I've become a bigger RVD fan...and he sucks!

I hate Hogan less now than I did when I wasn't on the net. At least now I respect him.

Yeah...I actually started wrestling regularly in 95. I dug the Hart matches and HBK's matches. Later on, I saw Hogan on this show called Nitro and was shocked that WWF had competition called "WCW." It was filled with fat has-beens and really old men. I noticed the Cruiser matches were cool, so I'd tune in for that.

I wasn't a fan of Ric Flair at the time, though. He didn't do any extremely impressive moves, I didn't think.

I first got on the net about 1998.

It may cause a realization, but if something sucks, it sucks. And sooner or later, you will notice. Maybe someone brings it to your attention and you say "You know, he's got a point." Maybe you'll pop in a tape and say, "Wow, this is so much better than the shit I get today." The point is you can only turn your brain off for so long. Unless you're Vince, apparently.

And I hated Hogan the very first time I saw him, in the mid-80s. I liked guys that actually left their feet once in awhile, like Savage and Steamboat. Internet access has only made me respect them more, and hate Hogan more.

Sting made me watch. Sting fighting off the entire NWO...they way they would do it week after week made me have to see it the following week.

I marked like a mother fucker for the Scorpion Death Drop. Still do. Sting would pull their head back...look at em with those dead eyes...then drop em like a bad habit.

And to think Sting went to my old high school's archrival. Damn bastard lives where I've been living for 13 1/2 years, my friends saw him coming out of a coffeehouse in the past year actually in the middle of the night. Seems pretty Sting-like.

Anyways, I have to agree with everyone else here on their assertment. I especially echoed thesentiments of the person who said they used to have the chips and soda ready at 9pm but now they look at the clock and it's 9:15 and go oh shit it's on... RAW I can watch for a little bit, I stay tuned for just the Jericho part, then I turn away. When I was living on the west coast, I had the benefit of reading exactly what was going to happen on RAW an hour before the show, thanks to the quick updates of Scott Keith's rants, as well as 411wrestling's live crap. So many times I often found myself looking over to see if a show sucked then deciding whether to continue watching it or head over to Hollywood or a friend's house instead.

Now I just have to sit and endure it out here in Miami, and I have to say it's like something I don't want to do, but that I want to stay updated on for lack of better things to do, and to post on this board because it kills time quite effectively.

Oh god, I just realized this thread is turning into something of a "Jaded Smark Support Group"...
