Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 17, 2003 I have plugged a USB port into my computer, and it says it's working fine, but my DV will not capture onto my computer no matter what I do. I have Windows XP and TONS of space on the hard drive and stuff and RAM and everything. I have no idea what's wrong, because the computer says the hardware is properly installed but the video will not capture onto the computer. It always says there is some error with the USB/1394 thing, but the "installer" says it is in. Any help (that is, if my explaination didn't confuse anybody) is appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance. Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 27, 2003 just a quick question are you using USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 Sorry, but that may be part of the problem. I have no idea. Can you tell me how to differentiate between the two? Thanks again. Jason
Chunk 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Difference between USB 1.1 and 2.0 : The most important difference Between USB 1.1 and 2 .0 is the data transfer speed, 12Mbps versus 480Mbps when using the USB 2.0 interface. Although we recommend using the USB 2.0 interface for our devices it is also possible to write CD's on USB 1.1 with limited performance. The maximum available writing speed in this case will be 4X and the reading speed will be reduced to 6X. http://www.plextor.be/english/technical/su...pport/IUSB.html ChUnK! Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted March 29, 2003 How can I differentiate though. I don't see any writing on the USB ports with "2.0" or "1.1" so I would know. Is it somewhere on the hard drive that I could read it, or in the computer's instruction manual? Or does the USB speed have to do with the USB cords themselves? And if that's the case, how can I tell what speed they are? Thanks again, I seem lost on this one. Jason
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted March 30, 2003 Look for a bios setting for "Enable Legacy USB". If it's there, there is a 99.999% you have USB 2.0. If it ain't there, you likely have USB 1.

Jason, thanking all of you once again with regard to his pathetic knowledge of PCs You can access the bios after you reboot your comp, but before the "starting windows" bit starts. The key is different for each computer, but may be something like Delete, or F12. Be careful if you have to mess around in there, though.
Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted April 1, 2003 Also, how old is your computer? If it is more than a year or so old, then unless you added your own USB ports later, you probably don't have USB. If you're using a USB hub, that has to be USB 2.0 also...
