Does x-pac suck?

X-Pac rules. There, I said it and I mean it. Sean Waltman has proven over his career to be one of the most talented, but more importantly one of the most adaptable wrestlers around. Few wrestlers have enjoyed both success as a face and a heel the way he has, and as far as light-heavyweights who have, I could probably count the number on one hand. To the people who say X-Pac has become lazy, I bring up the point of flashy high flying moves like the moonsault get pops, and that’s not the type of stuff a true heel is looking for. So many heels nowadays want to play the “cool” heel (HHH or Rob Van Dam are prime examples), getting applauded for their great offense but still getting booed, and that’s ok, but for every RVD out there it’s important there are real heels like X-Pac out there to maintain wrestling’s balance, because eventually every “cool” heel becomes a babyface, and then there’s nobody left for the babyfaces to feud with. Look at Billy Kidman’s failed heel turn against Hulk Hogan in 2000 as a prime example of why X-Pac is doing the right thing. Kidman lost all his matches and continued to employ his usual daredevil offense; the crowd had no reason to cheer him. When X-Pac wrestles the “lazy” style that he has perfected, and then goes onto win matches he has no right winning, the fans have good reason to hate him…and that is why X-Pac rules.

Yeah, I don't really see why people say X-Pac is lazy.  I think he works fairly hard.  Then again, I don't look to closely at his matches.

I'm assuming you meant "boo" instead of "cheer."  I thought Kidman got booed plenty during his Hogan feud, but I don't really remember.  What was your take on the reactions each guy got?

X-Pac was excellent in WCW, and was one of the most over guys on the entire roster for a time...wasn't that Syxx-pac t-shirt the second best selling merchandise? I agree that he needs to modify his gimmick to the one he used to have...a bit more cocky. They should rename him Syxx actually, it's much better than X-Pac.

That was a Big Typo. I meant "Boo." Personally, I don't think the fans ever took that Feud serious enough in the first place. Along with the Rest of WcW at that time. What I remember the most was Kidman trying and Hogan No-Selling everything Kidman came at him with.

Sure, he may have been excellent in WCW, but that was 5 years ago, he was a known former-WWF guy (among the many who were embraced the WCW crowds), and was part of the biggest angle in the company's history. He also didn't have a major neck injury which hampered his wrestling style and caused him to get ye ole' FedEx Axe.

 

Most of the WWF faithful perceive X-Pac as an annoying, crotch-chopping, rest-hold based, Kliq-hanger-on who may never get a good pop due to his reputation (you know, X-Pac Heat). And if he got any cockier, he'd get worse treatment than Stephanie.

 

I personally find his wrestling okay, if a bit stale and outdated. His little program with Jericho way back when was decent. But the fact that he's back in the nWo (so sayeth the SD spoilers) makes Edge's indictment of him not being able to change with the times all that more convincing.

 

So how do you go about proving X-Pac doesn't suck? It's kind of a double edge sword, really. He could go on a tirade about how he gets no respect, but if he were to go out and try to earn that respect (i.e., go over an army of midcarders/cruiserweights), he'd be vilified for using his "connections" to get a push. It's a no-win situation, unfortunately. Maybe pigeonholing him as the nWo's jobber is the only way to go with him.

 

(Incidentally, renaming X-Pac probably isn't a possibility, since that would require Vince admitting there are some gimmicks in the wrest... I mean "sports entertainment" world that werent his idea. Besides, it would just confuse the WWF faithful, what with them having to chant "Syxx Suxx")

Personally I like X-Pac.  He always seems to try pretty hard in the ring, given the right opponent.  I have always liked his moveset for some reason, probably the sweet ass kicks he can lay in.  I think X-Pac joining the nWo is a great move for his career because it puts him back in the big picture again, and gets him back on TV.

After coming back to the WWF in 1998 and in 1999 I remember seeing him bump his ass off from time to time.   Maybe his whole wrestling style all depends on his health at the time.

I like X-Pac. He seems like he cares and always puts forth a strong effort, unless as people pointed out he's dealing with his injury. All the Syxx stuff was great, the stuff with and against Kane was good and the short aborted LHW title stuff was good.

He had a pretty wicked feud with Kane at one point and also with Jericho (cage match?) if I'm not mistaken.

I think the writers ran out of ideas for him. When has he stuck with a program for more then 2 months. Even when he had his own faction (granted not the best, but not the worst either) it lasted all of a month or 2. Putting him with the NWO was a good idea. He's closely associated with those guys, and what else was he going to do? There was onetime on Raw(Can't remember whether it was against Rock or HHH) and he almost won the title. IMO that wouldn't have been too bad of an idea. He was over then, still in decent health, and would have been a good underdog Champ for a few weeks.

Not only does X-Pac not suck, he kicks that ass.  He is a great worker, a talented athelete, and as was stated before, does great as a face or a heel.  Being the world's biggest DX mark, I am a bit biased.  But as a heel lover as well, he has always been one of the best heels to get behind because he rarely loses, due to an exclellent cheating ability.  Great for making your X-Pac-hating friends furious.  He also had one of the greatest matches I've ever seen.  (Bret Hart VS. 1-2-3 Kid, Raw, sometime in 94)  He's a prime time player with original, good looking moves and the willingness to have his body shattered for a good match.  Sorry Razor, he's not a "scrub" anymore.

X-Pac has sucked, IMHO, since he spent the better part of a year teaming, then feuding, with Kane.  It was a storyline that smacked of "we don't know what else to do with these guys" that lasted WAY too long.  

 

In fact, I think that it helped destroy any movement that EITHER of them have had on the card, although X-Pac's very public attitude problem since the Invasion hasn't helped him.  (In particular, he came of as VERY conceited and implied or outright said that the light-heavyweight and cruiser belts were beneath him, despite holding both of them.)

Well if X-Pac believes that he is above the Cruiserweights/Lightsweights division, where exactly in the WWF does he belong?  He cannot redo the big man vs small man gimmick again because thats Spike Dudley, Crash Holly and Hurricane gimmick and he is above these comedians.  If X-Pac wants to be in the Heavyweight title hunt then who will job to him.  The European, Intercontental, Hardcore champions............I don't think so.  Why would DDP, Regal, RVD, Edge or Crash want to work with X-Pac "the under used superstar".

 

It looks like the only place to have X-Pac actually be happy would be in the Tag Team division.  Working with the "talented" Billy & Chuck in the newly created 6-Man/Trios Tag division where the misused midcard talent can showcase their skills.  Heck put this team in a program with Rikishi & Albert & Scotty for best goofy team in WWF.

 

Seriously X-Pac would be perfect in the tag division with Justin Credible as the Kliq B Team.  Going over jobber teams of Storm & Scrub, Saturn & Weekend Warrior, or Funaki & Forgeiner Guy.

I think X-Pac can still contribute to the WWF, but Edge was dead on about the guy. He's going to have to step out of 1998 and mix in a new move somewhere. I'll reserve my judgement of him until I see him wrestle again.

hmm, i don't hate the guy, i just find him funny, like test. I just can't take some guys seriously. The problem i have with him is that he has better matches with big guys, but has a weak looking finisher and rarely jobs.

I used to really dislike X-Pac, which essentially started when he came back to the WWF, but I kind of became impressed with his work in X-Factor during the first parts of the inVasion.  He had made some pretty lofty comments about being above the light heavyweight division and I think he realized that his attitude needed to stop, so he started pulling off some decent matches with Kidman and the other cruiserweights and was genuinely trying to get rid of his image, his "x-pac heat."

 

I haven't seen Smackdown so I don't know if he's back to his annoying self, but in a way, I kind of like having him back, just for something new and for some link to the glory days of the nWo.  (I can't believe I just said that - I'm getting my head examined NOW.)

I met X-Pac the night before WM 2000. He was in one of the many gift shops in Disneyland. He was nice enough to sign an autograph for one of my co-workers, who was a huge DX mark. So I can't bring myself to say that he sucks...

 

That having been said, he has lost a step. Jericho was very obviously carrying him in their feud, and X-Factor was a bad, BAD idea. His workrate isn't what it once was, and I really don't see it getting any better any time soon. I'd be delighted if he proved me wrong...

No...he's pretty darn good.

 

But on the other hand, he has an amazing lack of charisma.  In fact he has anti-charisma.  Not only can you not help but hate him, but he's just plain boring and un-interesting as well.

 

Plus he has a really bad attitude.  He thinks he's some sort of big shit kliq member, like Shawn Micheals or something.  He never does the job and to make matters worse, he rarely puts in much effort or wrestles the kind of matches he's capable of...
