Another problem with your sexist post johnson- you put it right in the middle of an unrelated thread, so any/all females on the board would read it over without any warning.

 

My thread was well warned.

Another thing. He seems serious, whereas my comments were a bit light-hearted, implying that I didn't mean anything by it.

 

Of course CC went crazy, but I forgive her because she's had a rough time with Johnson.

My remarks about everyone being women was a joke. It's just these guys felt threatened since I called them on the racist jokes and turned it into me being sexist.

The jokes in question were just that... jokes. Racist remarks are a bannable offense because they indicate that someone is deliberately putting down people of a certain race because he feels they are inferior. Considering the jokes were clearly labeled as such, I personally have no problem with them.

 

That said, I think the thread should remain closed (and no more like it be started) just to head off this kind of potential controversy in the future.

Well, Johnson has asked me to step in and give my take on it. I tend to agree mostly with Tom.

 

See, here's the difference, in my humblest opinion.

 

Ragin Redneck made racist remarks concerning all black people, not just Booker T, which is why I PERSONALLY banned him after I read the entire thread.

 

The joke thread was meant to be offensive, hence the warning. Now, I can understand the fact that people may get offended by "offensive jokes" (which is the point now isn't it), but just because someone tells a racist joke, it doesn't mean that they are racist. I seriously doubt and hope that most people here want to kill babies, commit beastiality or other things that they joke about or have joked about in this thread. BUT, if the joke is told in a serious, malicious manner to put down someone, then that can be considered racism. It's a very fine line.

 

Oh...and as for 'No Holds Barred', what some people truly fail to realize is that it's nothing more than a clever name for a flaming folder. NOT that there are really no holds barred here.

 

For the record....there's a reason why I've been putting off on making "official" rules as to what belongs and what doesn't belong in the No Holds Barred folder (as well as others). The reason why is because i'm a first amendment advocate for the most part, but also because everything differs and each complaint has to be seen on a case by case basis. We had some problems with Ragin Redneck before, therefore, I had no problem making my decision.

That explaination can't be true regarding why I got mad. I wasn't saying anything about the racism issue, but I was very much pissed with your comments and how you presented that opinion as fact.

Just so everyone knows, the First Amendment doesn't apply to internet message boards. I know people who have had threads closed have played the wounded bird act and tried to hide behind the First Amendment, but the stipulation that "Congress shall make no law..." doesn't carry over to the folks who run internet message boards. I'm as big a First Amendment advocate as anyone, but it's really not universal, and that's a good thing for everyone to know, if they didn't already.

 

That said, each incident DOES have to be looked at on a case-by-case basis. General guidelines are fine, but ironclad rules for a folder like this wouldn't work. That may lead to the perception of a double standard when one doesn't exist, but IMO, looking at each incident on its own merits and demerits is the smartest way to deal with things.
