Tobias didn't do much on MK4 because he was doing Mythologies at the time. He is actually one of the last guys to appear in the credits.

While yeah, MKT is an upgrade to MK3, Midway had another developer work on it. Same with MK Gold.

And I'm 100% serious about MK3 > MK II. Better gameplay, better roster, better story. MK 3 >>> MK II. It's not like I don't love MK II though, I have a dedicated coin-op MK II in my home.

I don't see how the story is any better or worse. Plus that factors in zilch to how enjoyable the game is.

Oh, have you played Mythologies? Damn, that was a turd and a half.

The sprites in MK3 are cleaner looking, but smaller. Also, the fatalities look like absolute shit. Either guys get sliced up in unconvincing ways, become skeletized, or are explosions of bones. Oooh, Stryker has a gooey filling and his arms are still dangling by his side through they were cut off just above the wrist. In Kung Lao's MK2 sliceing fatality, they drew in bones and guts in MK2. Fatalities looked better, and the stages were more ominous and creepy in MK2. Sloppy stuff like that abounds in MK3. Geez, would it have killed them to take on two extra arms to Sheeva's skeleton? It was just laziness everywhere. Oh, and Animalities? Ugh--wotta waste. Wasn't worth the wait.

Gameplay? MK2 had real combos, only. MK3 had the stupid Run button and tap, tap, tap BS combos. Man, Kabal is just a test of skill.

MK2 had cooler characters. The "new" MK3 fighters looked like something out of McMahon's sideshow during the mid-90s. They took out the "faves" to make room for those newcomers.

To me, MKII is obviously the superior game; I just can't stand MK3. However, you have a coin-up of MKII vs. my Super NES, so good for you. :)

Mmmm...steroid-rich Hogan blood.

After Brock smeared himself with it, he became even more of a force to be reckoned with.

I really like the post apocalyptic stuff. I also have always loved how Shao Kahn invaded and is occupying Earth in MK3. Not many bad guys are so badass they actually achieve their goal.

Also, though a ton of fans hate it, I like the modern(and somewhat even futuristic) character designs. I mean I did like the mystic kung fu movie stuff in MK and MK II, but I also think the robots are cool and the modern backgrounds.

To me the character design, background design, story, just the overall presentation is more important than like the Fatalities.

I agree about the Fatalities. There is no doubt a lot of them are really lame in MK3. Some of them are nice, like Sindel ripping their skin off, but there's also the horrible ones like Jax growing and stomping on them. WTF was with that anyway!? Why can Jax grow to like Godzilla height!? Doesn't make sense and it's not funny.

Sheeva DOES have 4 arms in the skin rip fatalities, btw. She doesn't in Kano's skeleton rip though, which is odd. Why did they add the extra arms to one and not the other...?

My problem with MK II's gameplay is that it's really slow and relies too much on retaliation. The combo system is also too limited, even with corner juggles. MK3's juggles are a LOT more fun, especially when you combine them with the chain combos. Nothing in MK II tops Stryker's juggles with his gun in UMK3/MKT.

No doubt about it, MK II has a classic roster. But I also love MK3's. Cyrax, Sektor, Sindel, Kabal and Stryker(Yes, I LIKE Stryker!) are all good aditions to me. Plus everyone from MK II was eventually added to the roster in the upgrades.

Looks like I did not miss much. Ah well. I had a fun enough Thursday night without having to see Bill DeMott get squashed.
