Guest wolverine Report post Posted March 20, 2003 That Vince Russo tequila bottle shit on Nitro with Juvi, right? Anthony, who still thinks the J-Cup Sasuke match (while very good/excellent) is one of the most overrated matches ever.
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted March 20, 2003 I love Liger/Sasuke myself talking of that show, Liger/Fuji was pretty damn boring I thought
Guest Hamburger Man Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Lygers worse matches? Does such a thing exist? From what I have seen, that man is God.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Probly his worst performances I've seen were against Owen Hart in 1990, and Dick Togo on the Skydiving J tape. In the match against Owen, Owen bumps like a mad man for Lyger, breaks out all kinds of swank flippy stuff all over him, uses the full extent of his move set throughout, and Lyger mails in an average performance for most of the match, sells very little and finishes the match anticlimactically. In the match against Togo, Lyger gives a typically good performance, selling Togo's work on his stomach to set up the senton bomb really well, but then proceedes to kick out of and virtually no sell the senton bomb (which meant absolute and complete DEATH in Togo's home promotion of M-Pro in 1996, and was vital throughout the Kaientai DX vs. Sekigun feud) twice in a row, and forget about the stomach work during his offence in the finish. Of course, these worst performances pale in comparison to most other people's worst performances, but there you go
Guest gansobomber Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Was that Owen match '91 or '90? I have a match that took place on '91 where Liger, while not mailing in, DID seem a bit subdued compared to Owen.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2003 that was 4/21 or 31/91, I'm not sure Lyger d. Owen with the Super DDT that Owen sells like a MAN'S man...that match wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, neither. After watching it again, I see that Lyger was kinda lethargic throughout. Guest Pegasus Kid Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Lyger vs Kanemoto 01/04/2000. So began one of the worst periods in NJPW Junior Wrestling history.
Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Lyger vs Kanemoto 01/04/2000. So began one of the worst periods in NJPW Junior Wrestling history. I agree. I don't think that match lasted more than a minute. The intros were longer.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Lyger vs. Sasaki (4/7/00) worse than the Kanemoto match because, the 1/4/00 match was supposed to build up Lyger for Sasaki, then Kesuke made him look like a jobber and made his killing of the entire junior division pointless. Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Well obviously, the whole 'black' Lyger period was dismal in terms of the matches, and if we're talking about that, then fine. I think the point of the question was about his performances though, which although bad during the 'black' period, it wasn't his fault the matches were bad, it was Chosyu's booking. Guest sean pyro Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I thought that match he had with Ultimo Dragon during the J-Crown in 96 was prudy foul.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted March 27, 2003 It was OK considering it only went a little over 2 minutes. Liger's brain tumor condition prevented them from having any kind of long match.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted March 28, 2003 It was perfect, considering it played on their history together and established La Majestral as major threat, which helped set up a certain classic that occured later that night. Still, it would have been nice to see them go all out in '96. Their J-Cup match is really good, but leaves me feeling like they could have done better.
