Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 21, 2003 When the Pistson got Ben Wallace a couple years ago I had never heard of the guy, and then right away he made a huge defensive impact. Last night against Philly he had 9 blocks (4 on Iverson) and 22 rebounds...in the last 6 games he's pulled down 127 rebounds. Iverson only had 5 points last night... I know the MVP goes to guys who put up points...but when you take the words MOST VALUABLE PLAYER as they are, shouldn't this guy be at the top? Everyone goes on about how whoever wins the west, be it the Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, Kings, they're going on to win everything. I wouldn't doubt the Pistons right now. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 21, 2003 While Ben Wallace is clearly Detroit's MVP, the league MVP is for the Most Valuable Player of the entire NBA. Ben Wallace is a good player, but he isn't a league MVP.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 21, 2003 While Ben Wallace is clearly Detroit's MVP, the league MVP is for the Most Valuable Player of the entire NBA. Ben Wallace is a good player, but he isn't a league MVP. I understand that. But defense should be just as important as offense, thus he should be near the top. I wasn't saying he should be MVP, but he's not even a contender just cause he doesn't have 30 point games. What's more important to a team, a guy that can score 25 points consistantly? Or a guy who can get 20+ rebounds and 5+ blocks per game...AND keep the likes of Iverson in single digets?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 21, 2003 You sure he's not even a contender? I knew there's next to no chance that he'd win, but i still thought he was in contention for it.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 21, 2003 You sure he's not even a contender? I knew there's next to no chance that he'd win, but i still thought he was in contention for it. The only names I'm hearing are Bryant, Dunkin, Iverson, and Mcgrady (sp, I KILLED that name)
Guest The Fett Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Wallace is too one dimensional. Certainly defense is as important as offense, but the other MVP candidates bring defense AND offense. Duncan is the main reason the Spurs have the best defense in the league. McGrady, Garnett and Bryant guard the opposing teams best player every night. Iverson, while he isn't the best defender in the league, is still a whole lot better on defense than Wallace is on offense.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Timmay is not a pickle! Right now I think it is a toss up between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. As they are all around good players on both sides of the game, they can get a Triple Double nearly any night. Ben Wallace is very good at what he does but he is basically Dennis Rodman without the attitude, the ultimate role player on a team that does not get alot attention. Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Good to see Detriot completely shutting some teams down and putting up some massive wins with the playoffs coming soon.

Guest swan Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Wallace is from Georgetown. Being the college B-ball junkie I am I would have to disagree: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ben_wallace/index.html

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Right now I think it is a toss up between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. Actually I think it's a toss up between Duncan and Garnett. I think Bryant has kinda fell out of the picture since cooling off after that streak he was on. He seems to be a little under the radar right now. He needs another crazy streak to get his hand on the MVP trophy I think. Kobe has had stretches of poor play with stretches of great play while those other two have played great for the entire season without any real hot or cold streaks to speak of. They're just night in and night out contributing to winning. You gotta feel sorry for Orlando. Trading Ben Wallace for Grant Hill? My God. They basically gave up the best defensive player and one of the best rebounders in the league for NOTHING. Could you imagine Ben Wallace's defense coupled with McGrady's offense? They would've been a contender the past couple of years instead of the mediocre team that they are now. Wallace is EXACTLY what the Magic needs. A big man that guard the other big men and give them strong rebounding. Even with a healthy Hill, they still wouldn't have that.

Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted March 22, 2003 While he was coaching the Celtics, Rick Pitino actually cut Ben Wallace from the roster instead of Eric whatshisname from Michigan who was a center sitting behind the Fab Five.

Actually Pitino offered Wallace a contract as get this A POINT GUARD! Wallace rejected the contract of course. I just couldn't imagine Wallace as a point guard. I just couldn't imagine Wallace as a point guard. I couldn't imagine a guy 6'10 or so (I could be wrong about that size) as a point guard, unless his team consisted of all big men. You gotta feel sorry for Orlando. Not really, they made their bed, and now they gotta lie in it, so to speak. And besides, who knew that guys like Ben Wallace were gonna be as good as they are now? Also.. Fuck Orlando
Guest starvenger Report post Posted March 24, 2003 While Ben Wallace is clearly Detroit's MVP, the league MVP is for the Most Valuable Player of the entire NBA. Ben Wallace is a good player, but he isn't a league MVP. Didn't he win defensive player of the year last year? Moochie Norris needs to go to the Pistons. With him, Wallace and Corliss Williamson, you'd have 3/5ths of an all-fro team...

And besides, who knew that guys like Ben Wallace were gonna be as good as they are now? Also.. Fuck Orlando I agree...on paper Orlando seemed to come out WAY ahead cause the Pistons weren't going to pay Hill what he thought he was worth. So the Pistons got short end shafed on that one...funny how things turn out though.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted March 25, 2003 You gotta feel sorry for Orlando. Not really. I'm sure with all the cap room that they got rid of to sign Hill and T-Mac was worth with. I mean, I'm sure they sell more Hill jerseys and merchandise than they would have if they sold Ben Wallace stuff.
Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted March 25, 2003 I couldn't imagine a guy 6'10 or so (I could be wrong about that size) as a point guard, unless his team consisted of all big men. Ben Wallace is listed at 6-9 on most sites, and is actually closer to 6-6. He pretty much dominates his position the way the also-undersized Charles Barkley did: refusal to be outperformed.
