Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 21, 2003 I just want to personally bring to light the great actions of the great fans in Montreal last night. I mean booing the Star Spangled Banner? How CLASSY! How mature! I don't care what you (wrongly) feel about my country, but you show a national anthem respect. I do the same for yours. And anyone who doesn't can go to hell. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Ah I feel WM III memories flooding back. "You guys can't sing the Russian National Anthem because America is the land of the free, and the home of the brave!"
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Ah I feel WM III memories flooding back. "You guys can't sing the Russian National Anthem because America is the land of the free, and the home of the brave!" ... I'm sure that's relevant somehow. I'm just not in the mood to try and figure out how.

And anyone who doesn't can go to hell. Maybe they were just still pissed that THEIR national anthem was booed last year (I think it was in Detroit). Edit: I'm not saying they had the right to do it... just that american fans did the exact same thing. Edited March 21, 2003 by KanadianKrusty

Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 21, 2003 It was at the Islanders/Leafs game on Long Island in the playoffs last year where they booed O Canada. Montreal has pretty strong anti-war sentiments, so that's probably why they did it.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted March 21, 2003 What they did was tasteless and ignorant. We should be sticking together at a time like this, instead of showing weakness and bickering among ourselves.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Tasteless, yes, but I really don't think it was ignorant. It's a poor way to show your displeasure with the war, I'll agree, but at least there was a 'reason' for it, rather than just for the sake of booing it.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 21, 2003 We've done the same to their national anthem and we didn't even have a reason to boo their anthem. At least they had an actual reason to boo the anthem
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 21, 2003 At least they had an actual reason to boo the anthem Did America invade Canada, raping all the women and killing all the men without me noticing? Did we blow Canada into five million little pieces while I was at work? Did we accicentally bomb them again? Oh, well I guess they really didn't have a reason to boo.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted March 21, 2003 The 'reason' is that they don't support the war in Iraq. Is it the proper way to protest the war? No, probably not, but they are justified in their mind and they are not just doing it because 'America Sucks' or anything like that.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Did America invade Canada In 1812. They failed. Did we accicentally bomb them again? Well a lot of Canadians are upset over the killing of 5 Canadian servicemen and the way the trial is progressing. Oh, well I guess they really didn't have a reason to boo. It was the crowd's way of excerising their displeasure for the war in Iraq. It's not right but no one was harmed by it and it's a better way to protest then rioting in the streets. The crowd also could've been angered by Americans who boo 'O Canada' for NO reason and that could've been their way of answering back. It's not right but it isnt ignorant. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 21, 2003 It was the crowd's way of excerising their displeasure for the war in Iraq. Iraq...IS IN CANADA? Holy shit. I had no idea. And I didn't even go to public school! Of course, I also go to hockey games to, you know, watch hockey rather than make a political statement. Damnit I feel so outdated. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Did America invade Canada In 1812. They failed. You have anything a little more recent. That would be like someone booing the UK national anthem because they invaded the US in 1812.
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted March 22, 2003 I went to a Sabres/Dallas game here in Buffalo a few weeks back, and during the Star-Spangled Banner one drunken Dallas fan said "STARS!" at the 2 mentions of stars in the song. He looked like such a dick. Glad that didn't catch on

No. But only Pro-Saddam Iraqis have a reason for wanting the insane tyrant to keep his job.

And Lillian Garcia should've sung louder! Considering the way many Americans have treated France lately what with calling for boycott of French products, harrassing French people and the whole Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast shit- maybe the French were a bit fed up. I'm not saying it was right what they did but they certainly have some reasons to do it. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-a...ov=ap&type=lgns

Considering that France was in the wrong the whole time- and if you aren't convinced of that already with weapons they suposedly didn't have already showing up- (The missiles that were "destroyed" that somehow ressurected themselves in time for war) you will be soon enough. Okay, must keep this less political. It's not CE.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted March 22, 2003 What about invading a country without proper UN agreements? Is that class act?
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted March 22, 2003 The UN is useless. They had their heads too far up their asses to actually see anything, on top of appointing Dr. Do Little as the chief inspector who doesn't inspect. They wouldn't have come around until Saddam actually nuked someone. and what good is stopping him after the fact?
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted March 22, 2003 But does that make the US and other nations a class act to invade another country? Answer the question?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted March 22, 2003 What does that have to do with being a class act? We feel there is a threat, we are eliminating that threat. It isnt like we promised not to and are reneging on our word or anything.

Guest alkeiper Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Toppling an Insane and Dangerous dictator and liberating an oppressed people in the process? Yes, it does Using that logic, I could find a half a dozen other countries we could invade.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted March 22, 2003 (Edited out my war comments...they don't really need to be here in the sports folder.) Erm...that went rather off topic. Steering this back onto sports: Yeah, that loss sure dimmed the Habs playoff hopes. Too bad, as they looked to be making a late run for a while there. Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Well, nice to see Americans making a mature, classy response...some yahoos in Atlanta thought it'd be cool to boo "O Canada" before tonight's Senators/Thrashers game.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Come on guys- If you wanna debate the war do it in Current Events. There are a lot of threads where you can debate it. I can understand why the Hab fans booed the anthem but considering there are players on both countries from each team- it's pretty stupid
