I know I'm probably one of the few Christians on the board, although I haven't made the point to be well-known. So basically, anyone else here into any of the music? I know it probably sucks to many of you, but to me it holds sentimental value for all the obvious reasons. Some of it actually is pretty decent music that you would listen to whether it was Christian or not, but much of the time that's not the case. Most of the stuff is guilty pleasure for me though. Jars of Clay have a pretty big following, what else are the other Christians on the board into?

Oh yeah, can't forget the worship music. I like some of it, but even than, it has nothing to do with the music, but rather the message. What do y'all think?

Not my type of music, but I will say that Christian Metal bands absolutely suck the fat one.

All of Dream Theater's members are Christian or Jewish last time I checked.

Kings X too (I think)

Trying to think of others.

Slayer keep poping up (with Tony being Catholic) But dunno if that counts to you.

There's a difference between being Christian and beating the idea of Jesus over the listeners heads when it comes to the actual music.

I know.

DT's The Great Debate is very fair on the views they give.

Does anyone really listen to Dream Theatre for their lyrics though? Its all about Petrucci & Portnoy. LaBrie's voice irritates the hell out of me.

Slayer would be the last band to come to my mind regarding this topic. That's still confusing me.

I listen to some Christian music, and rarely is the idea of Jesus "beaten upon me". A lot of times, it can provide some subtle, clever lyrics here and there. Just break the stereotype.

I don't mind DT's vox. And some of the lyrics are interesting.

But you're right, the instruments are far the better part of the band.

What's confusing about Slayer?

As for Christain music.

Anal Gore Terror - Holy Terror sums it up, ina funny way. (Pronogrind band, good luck finding thier stuff)

Evanescence has a Christian member or two, and Christ is definitely evident in their music. They're refreshing, to me, because they seem to really concentrate on brokenness. Being hurt, but also carrying on.

For straight up Christian, I enjoy Superchic[k]. They have given me two of my favorite praise songs, and they're just a fun band to listen to. I've only heard one Kutless song but I'm pretty sure they're Christian and I really liked that song.

Gimme a bit and I'll think of more. There's more out there than you would think.

Blind Guardian isn't really a Christian band, but they have some interesting themes. I think they all have a different sect of christian beliefs. The Martyr is f'ing great.

There's no Tony in Slayer...unless you mean Tom.

I'm really not thinking these days.

Some of the Christian metal core bands like Living Sacrifice and Zao are really awesome...they sound like melodic Swedish death metal.

They do have their religiousness in them, but they don't beat the listener over the head of it. The worst Christian metal band has to be Mortification. Horrible is an underestimate.

I meant I would never have considered Slayer to be anything remotely related to Christianity. I listen to them and all, but Jesus ain't the first thing that comes to mind...

MxPx has quite a few songs about Christianity, but they've also got a few of my pop-punk songs that are my guilty pleasure (Move To Bremerton, Chick Magnet (demo version) and Do your feet hurt (critter version))

They really do have quite a few songs about religion and creation and stuff. actually some of their "harder" songs like "Creation" are about religion.

All of them are hilarious in a "what in the hell is this" way.

Actually they were hilarious at first...now they just make me want to scream.

Same goes for those damn Kidz Bop CD commercials.

I suppose worship is just another one of those things that exists on a different level for Christians than others. I guess it could seem funny.

What did Bart Simpson say? "All the good rock bands work for Satan"?

Well it's been a while since we did this, actually it hasn't.

As I posted last time: Underoath is a great band, in fact you can make a good argument that "The Changing of the Times" ranks as one of the more innovative metal releases in the past couple of years, and Hopsfall's "Now Wings to Speak of" ep is one of the best hardcore releases of all time IMO. "End of an Era" is certaintly one of the greatest hardcore/metal songs of all time.

Zao is alright as well.

Damn straight, Coffin Surfer...Hopesfall rocks. I've seen them live twice, and they sound just as good as they do on their studio albums. Why can't all hardcore be as cool as hopesfall?

Does P.O.D count as Christian music???

Yes, they count as both 'christian' and 'gay'.

I attended a Jars of Clay concert way back in the day. Truly horrible, and my eyes may have been scarred for life.

Oh you're kidding aren't you? Must you shit on every good band snuffbox?? C'mon then, what's wrong with P.O.D ie. something more original than, "they're gay"

Guest snuffbox

aside from the blatant homoeroticism mkay...

Their newest cd with 'I feel so alive' and 'we are we are the youth of the nation' is the definition of schlock. A ping-pong music video? Badass! Fuck, I could play 'alive' in the midst of a moment of balling with the honey and it would still lack any semblance of life or feeling at all.

You keep pimping your 'good bands' nanks...like linkin park, good charlotte, and now pod...did i miss anyone else in this growing list/gay pride parade? and i will glady shit on them.

and to reiterate....theyre gay.
