Guest Nanks Report post Posted March 24, 2003 Wow, biting critisicm, you called them gay in more words. To clarify, I wasn't pimping Good Charlotte, just said they were good live. Here's some more bands for you to call gay in order to sound cooler - The Offspring, Green Day, Rage Against The Machine, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Live, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Blink 182, Staind. Off you go then, make some more gay jokes, they really are cool...
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted March 24, 2003 I do not need to be reminded of my coolness. Offspring - covered them, gleebin globin gay Green Day - I do like a small amount of their music Rage - about as far from gay as can be Puddle - she fuckin hates him cuz hes so damn queer Saliva - Always....gay, and the worst 'band' on your list...all gay all day Live - I like but they really need motivation/ambition Pearl Jam - Gods Metallica - absolutely pathetic at this point, and the biggest faggot in the world answers to 'Lars' Blink 182 - I dont care Staind - ehhh, dudes stoned out of his mind, so I cant knock him Heres a few suggestions for you...Blind Melon, David Bowie, Doors, anything involving Perry Farell, Neil Young,Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Sublime, Velvet Underground. Give some of these fuckers a listen.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted March 24, 2003 David Bowie couldn't be more gay. Doors are cool, I just don't really listen to old music, and they're not fast enough for me Smashing Pumpkins, very blah, now THERE'S the bullshit angst you always carry on about, I will listen to Melancholy..... though Tool = Cool Don't know the rest, and there's probably a good reason It's nice to see that you can only refer to one single from most of those bands though, shows no real knowledge of their music. ESPECIALLY reference to Pretty Fly, unquestionably The Offspring's worst song. I don't like Americana
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted March 24, 2003 Smashing Pumpkins, very blah, now THERE'S the bullshit angst you always carry on about, I will listen to Melancholy..... though The song 'Today' is about suicide. Seems to be a rather 'angst'-like emotion. Mellon Collie
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 Must this thread too turn into an, "These bands rule because we say so and we're artistic and they're artistic and we know art because we rule," affair? Really, it's getting old and quite worn out and I don't think it really applies to most Christian music. Christian music is generally riddled with hidden meanings that aren't apparent to non-Christians. Thus most people see it as trite or stupid. Which is fine, it's their right and often times their ignorance of the underlying meaning is the root of it. Alive is a fine Christian song when applied to the Christian life of freedom in Christ. Simple as that. Angst isn't generally something that you find in Christian music though when a Christian band does tackle it they get shat on by people who don't quite see the purpose behind it. So go ahead and tear apart the bands you don't like. We'll be here to still enjoy them and support them, and that's what is important.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted March 24, 2003 I see nobody has brought up Creed
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 I think even alot of Christians are hesitant to embrace Creed. IIRC, they've been iffy on whether they consider themselves a Christian band or not.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 one of my favorite bands is ZAO most people cant tell they are xian from the music though
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 The Doors are the most overrated band EVER, retarded lyrics and all. It's CHRISTian, not "Xian". Like it's not that much harder to type it all out. Any good recommendations for me to listen to SP? How about any other Christians in this thread? I'm always open to new bands. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Blind Guardian aren't actually a "Christian" band, but if you can find it, download "The Martyr". It's one of the coolest songs about Jesus I've ever heard. Lemme run through my playlist and I'll see what else I can recommend. Where do your tastes generally run? Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Regarding Christian music (because you won't find any Christian jazz), my tastes generally run towards things like Jars of Clay, along those lines. I am also a big fan of the worship songs, by like Vineyard and stuff. You know what I'm talking about? I could give a few recommendations of my own... Guest Kibagami Report post Posted March 25, 2003 There's a good deal of Christian ska to be had if you're into that sort of thing. Five Iron Frenzy comes to mind, and the Supertones especially. The Supertones have an odd ska + hip-hop thing going on, which would be a lot of fun for me if they'd lay off of the Jesus in at least a couple songs. K. Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Best Christian Rock band ever = Project 86.
Guest whatitistoburn Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Norma Jean is the best christian group ever. P86 would be my second pick. And I have a soft spot for MXPX.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 25, 2003 I'm offended by the entire holiday regardless of it being called X-Mas or Christmas. Red and Green...is such a disgusting colour combination...it greatly offends me.

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 A few recommendations: Philmore - Our Finest Hour Superchic[k] - History Maker Superchic[k] - Holy Moment Holy Moment is my favorite praise song ever. It's just one of those great songs that pulls you in if you're in the worshiping mood. Our Finest Hour isn't about Jesus directly, but Philmore are one of those fun bands that can crank out something fast and energetic and somewhat badass at the same time. The song's kind of about marching right up to the gates of hell fearlessly. History Maker I heard performed by a traveling band with Acquire the Fire, and it was part one of the most intense worship experiences I've ever been a part of. The North Charleston Coliseum with youth groups from all around totally into it . . . it was great. God was making his presence felt. More when I can think of them . . . Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Thanks for the recommendations... Obviously I said that with Tongue in cheek, but yeah, I find it kind of annoying when people call it Xmas, rather than Christmas. It just seems disrespectful, in a way. But honestly, why would I be offended by an abbreviation? You knew that wasn't it due to the fact that I used one, but I just think that you needed to feel special about yourself or something, and thus had to put me down. Anyway, you ever listen to Vineyard? They cover alot of famous worship songs, and do a good job of it actually. I personally like the song "I Will Not Be Shaken", as it does a really good job of getting the congregation into it. My personal favourite though has to be "God of Wonders". I am sure that you can d/l it, it really is that great. I can't explain why, just listen to it and find out.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 I have the Rebecca St. James version of God of Wonders which is always a great worship song. My tastes generally run along the Philmore/Jars of Clay/Superchic[k] vein. Mostly because when recomitted to Christ I was involved in a youth group that plugged in and played live worship rock pretty much every meeting. I'll look into Vineyard. Also, if you like some piano driven contemporary stuff, check into Don Moen. Glory to the Lord is a great song, and one of my favorites when our church band plays it live during a Sunday service. My church rules so much.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 "but I just think that you needed to feel special about yourself or something, and thus had to put me down. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2003 Anyway, Vineyard play more traditional worship music, and while I also dig the plugged in traditional rock thing (sometimes), I have to say that I prefer the more congregational feel that you get with Vineyard. Just give it a try and tell me what you think.
