Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted March 23, 2003 i can't recall the name of the group that sang it but the song was "I want to be rich" there was that and another one was "king of wishful thinking" "I Want To Be Rich" by Calloway You dissed Calloway - YOU DIE TOO! The songs of my childhood obviously aren't popular here
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Don't knock the Sunscreen Song. I love that song. I wrote a parody of it over at the WWE and General Wrestling boards.

Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Cocoa Jumbo was by Mr. President. The Ketchup Song, if you listen, is actually some of the lyrics to "Rapper's Delight". The whole chorus of The Ketchup Song are the Spanish (?) girls going "I said hip hop the hippity hip hop...". It got decent airplay here on RI/MA stations. And Kotz probably isn't the only guy who would like some of these songs, as I like Ditty, Cocoa Jumbo, Graduation, and King of Wishful Thinking, to name a few. My pick for worst one hit wonder is probably Tubthumper, as I have really grown to hate it through the years.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Anyone want to take bets on how many of these song that kotz would say he loves? Gee, I've got quite the reputation. I never add anything to the music of substance discussions because I don't really know as much as the people in them, so why bother? Thus, threads such as this are MADE for me. I'll have you know I'm listening to "Are You Jimmy Ray?" at THIS VERY MOMENT. Wonderful throwaway one-hit-wonder. I knew when I first heard it that it would catch on and then disappear just as fast as it appeared. Seeing him on MTV's 1998 Spring Break Uncensored special reminded me of its existence. Aqua owns. I think I'll listen to their "Space Invaders" now. Chumbawumba's album is fun to listen to. "Amnesia" rules, and should have gotten the treatment "Tubthumping" did, I think. I totally agree with Afroman's "Because I Got High." Miserable to listen to. So fucking slow, and it isn't even funny. I dislike "Sunscreen" also, because it's often incorrectly attributed to Kurt Vonnegut and is hard to listen to without the video accompaniment. Chris Rock's "No Sex In the Champagne Room" is GENIUS though. Don't smudge a brother's Puma. I KNOW I didn't hear OMC hate up in here. "How Bizarre" FUCKING RULED. It even led to a running gag that my cousin and I have where every time we see The Rock on TV (back when he had hair), we'd start singing it, since he had an uncanny resemblance to the dude from OMC. "Mambo #5" was annoying, but not that bad initially. "Who Let the Dogs Out" was used for an untold number of family films that had dogs or party scenes in them, so I must sadly voice my disapproval. Travesty that it got #3 or something on VH1's top 100 One Hit Wonders countdown. It wasn't nearly as big as they said it was. My question is, if this had been asked before 2002, how many of you would have said "Locomotion?" As for my own submissions into this discussion, I'd have to say Meredith Brooks' "Bitch." An anthem for female empowerment (as people started touting it) it was not. Also overused in various other medias. EDIT: I'm neutral on "The Ketchup Song," and the others I didn't mention I simply don't know. A sidenote on radio airplay also: The VERY DAY I finally got a car again, they stopped playing Kylie and Tatu on the radio stations here. One day they were there, the next they were gone. IT'S A FUCKING CONSPIRACY.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted March 23, 2003 The superior Afroman track is clearly "She Won't Let Me Fuck," which is bouncier, sprightlier, and more delightfully obscene. Still brutally retarded, but not as much drool.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted March 23, 2003 I fear Tatu being a 1 hit wonder in America.
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Don't knock SR-71...their new CD is much more jaded and nu-metal than their first one (from which 'Right Now' was taken). I'm especially a fan of their new track 'Tomorrow.'
Guest Smues Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Oh, and another one who offended me personally as a human being, the Vitamin C graduation song. DIE DIE DIE! Good lord don't remind me. They played that so fucking much on the radio here. They had a couple versions of it with local seniors talking and it just made me want to punch out the radio every time they played the one with some dude saying "Vados Locos foreva!" I'm especially a fan of their new track 'Tomorrow.' Let me think this all over... 1) what I first thought of SR-71 PLUS 2) their new nu-metal sound...and what I think about nu-metal in the first place... Nope...still would rather take a giant crap on their cd then listen to it. And that Vitiman C thing was smart booking on her people's part...cause EVERYONE used that damn thing for graduation. Guest Smues Report post Posted March 23, 2003 And while I got the "Terrible terrible music" jones going i've managed to bring up some repressed memories. Blue by Eiffel 65. DEAR GOD did I fucking hate that song. I had myself trained to turn the radio off the second that intro hit, but then the Bloodhound Gang's badtouch used the same thing so i had to wait before turning it off. Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 23, 2003 What was that NWA song that was remade by some preppy white boy pop punk group? Worst Cover Ever!
Guest KingOfOldSchool Report post Posted March 23, 2003 That was 'Boyz in the Hood' by Dynamite Hack They knew what they were doing though. It was an intentionally bad cover.

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Alien Ant Farm. OK, it wasn't the worst cover ever and their album sold, but their own songs exposed them for the jokers they are/were. 'attitude' has to be the worst rock song ever commercially released.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted March 23, 2003 On the subject of one hit wonders who ripped off more well known artists we gotta add Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag. Not a bad song but that band ripped off Weezer to a tee even down to the name. Not a bad song but just a blatent ripoff.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted March 23, 2003 Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby Vanilla Ice had two hits, his second hit was his god awful remake of Play That Funky Music Whiteboy.

Guest kingkamala Report post Posted March 24, 2003 I don't know if I would call Dynamite Hack's Boyz in the Hood a full fledged hit, a minor hit maybe but not a hit. I personally thought the song was hillarious

Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 24, 2003 That Summertime Song...you know the one with the lyrics about abercromie and fitch and "chinese food makes me sick". LFO, I was glad to see them die off. Len was also only good for one hit, "Steal my Sunshine" or whatever.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted March 24, 2003 Alien Ant Farm exposed their deep down doucheness at Warped Tour 2001. Here in Dallas they got booed off of the main stage by everyone. Sucks what happened to them in that bus crash, though. Maybe MTV could give them to play U2 covers for their big comeback. "Rhythm is a Dancer" is another crappy one hit wonder. And I am also glad that LFO amounted to shit. If anyone out there is ever planning on kidnapping and torturing me, they need to play that one damned song over and over again! Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 "Rhythm is a Dancer" is another crappy one hit wonder. That was done by Snap, whose other big hit was "I've Got The Power"
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 24, 2003 I will add my vote for "Who Let The Dogs Out," as well as every one-hit-wonder by 80's hair bands not named Quiet Riot or Twisted Sister (although I know "Metal Health" by QR and "I Wanna Rock" by TS were both hits, but I'm not sure if they were BIG hits). Because, well, face it: Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister OWN your ass.
