Michael Moore: Asshat or patriot?

Recommended Posts

Guest SP-1
#1 Who gives a crap what the Pope says, religion is nothing more than a semi-civilized form of cult.

#2 Moore is an Asshat, but so is Bush, and so is anyone that is sitting there watching this "War" and going "Yay this is what we should be doing, this is the right thing for the Iraqi people and American people alike".

Iraqi people don't give a FUCK about Americans, Americans are hated in that section of the world because of their rediculous religious beliefs. Anyone who thinks Iraqi people are greatful for America supposedly trying to liberate them is a grade A Asshat as well. If they hated living there so much they would have immigrated by now, but they havent. Don't give me this bullshit that they can't because Saddam won't let them either because there's always a way out if one desperately needs one.

America has NO buisness being over in that part of the world because besides Britain(whom owes us their existence from WW2) everyone hates Americans over there. That's right, they HATE you. They HATE all you Pro-War, Pro-Bush American Lemmings. Why? Because their God tells them to.

1. Right . . . or not.

2. I guess that's why Iraqis account for one of the largest numbers of refugees in the world . . . right?

NXT PLZ~!

First of all what is an asshat? Don't get that. But I feel that he has the right to speak his mind, and challenge ask the questions that the government won't answer, just like any other american citizen he has that right. But he did choose the wrong forum to do so. Overall im not mad at him.

It would be odd for a priest to be calling for death.

Didn't the Vatican say the War is immoral unless it has UN approval?

I didn't catch that. Is that what the Pope said?

Wow, what a cop-out. If you're gonna be against it, be against it all the way.

I'm pretty sure he is against the war. One thing the Pope is is consistent: he's always been against killing in any form.

U2? Susan Sarandon? We're supposed to care what a pretty good band and a piss-poor actress think? The next good movie she's involved in will be her first. I can TOLERATE Robbins' bilge because he is actually talented. She lacks that in spades. Did ANY of those people graduate from college? I'm amazed at the power that the opinions of barely-high-school graduates has.

OK first of all I'll state for the record that I think Moore is quite possibly the biggest Asshat in American society today (opinion, folks). If he wants to protest the war, fine that's his right as an American citizen. To stand up at an awards ceremony and decry what you see as all the faults in today's society and blame them on those mean old Republicans because of an election that didn't go the way is asinine. To do it while accepting an award for a documentary that had more fiction in it than the society, election, and war you claim have in them, is rediculous.

Second, take a look here. It compares the educational background of Bush and several of his cabinet members as compared to the educational level of many of their Hollywood detractors. You'll see that you're not that far off.

I don't care if Sarandon or U2 or Meryl Streep protest the war because they do it TASTEFULLY, such as by playing a few bars of Sunday Bloody Sunday, flashing a quick peace sign, or wearing a dove pin. Going out and being a fucking asshole like Michael Moore or Alec Baldwin (on politics in general, NOT that he's said anything about the war) piss me off.

I'm biased, because I like Moore, but the audience & producers were disgraceful in their behavior of cutting him off. If you're going to give him an award and 2 minutes to talk, then just shut your mouth and let him say his piece.

I'm pretty sure the rules were made clear ahead of time about political messages during acceptance speeches. The Grammy Awards did that some months ago.

Conspiracy Victim, that site is stupid. Albert Einstein had a horrible education at school, if anyone wants to say he's an idiot because of this then fine. John Lennon was also poor in school. I know he's not Einstein, but he was a social commentator that I know a lot of people here on this board agree with.

A lot of the actors probably quit university because they changed their mind and realised they wanted to actually have a career in acting.

Some people are succesful with very limited education. Others reach top of their class or whatever, but they can drop out.

I'm not judging anyone based on the site, I just find it interesting that all these closet political theorist "experts" seem to think that they are better qualified judges of international events than people who have made it a life's study.

I'm sorry, who really fucking cares?

I know more fucking dumb kids at college than I knew on any other level of my education. As the well-quoted maxim goes, "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has them and they all stink".

If you don't wanna hear them spout off, turn the damned channel.

End of story. Shut the fuck up about it.

You get between 25 and 45 seconds to give your acceptance speech and I believe he was over that limit by the time he started utttering about the Pope and the Dixie Chicks

I should let him ruin my "entertainment" just because he wants to spew his bullshit?

I'm glad I didn't change the channel - the boos brought a smile to my face.

BTW, we're right back to the argument again - don't talk shit about letting Moore use his 1st amendment rights, and then turn around and tell us to "shut the fuck up" and not use our free speech to criticize him.

Conversely, I'm amazed at how many people say "Why does Moore think we care about what he has to say?" and then spend tons of time bitching about the things he has to say. Judging by the response his comments have received from the expected people, I'd say he hit his target audience, and accomplished exactly what he intended to do.

Let's not go down that slippery slope of mistaking Michael Moore for Albert Einstein. One is a fat, tubby, untalented "director", the other was a genius. Doing poorly in school doesn't usually mean that one is abnormally intelligent, believe it or not.

And John Lennon? PLEASE tell me you're not being serious here. The man was a dolt and was blessed to have McCartney's intellect hide his lack thereof in the Beatles. His social commentary (ooh, being FOR peace? Way to take a stand! What next? Against torturing nuns?) was the same banal platitudes that the left has mistaken for deep thought for decades now.

Most of the actors couldn't get INTO college and managed to hit life's lottery.

Hollywood actors have NEVER been known for being the sharpest knives in the drawer.

What, make people who don't want to see his crap or read his books continue to not want to see or read him?

Umm, job well done, I guess.

If I don't like what? You guys whining about some guy spouting off? The fact that you wish to claim mental superiority by bashing a guy who has about as much claim to intelligence as Steve, your next door neighbor?

Riight.

If you feel smarter by "discussing" (read: bashing) how you don't agree that Michael Moore is smart, more power to you. I guess.

It's just a stupid, asinine topic to be discussing on a CE board.

Micheal Moore owns. He makes great documentrys and had the guts to say what he felt on the biggest yearly show in his industry.

The man's as intelligent as they come and it won't his career.

What he said didn't take "guts". It doesn't take guts to be an asshole.

Calling his films 'documentaries' seems to be a bit of a stretch.

And The Big One seems to be 90 minutes of hassling security guards

I've already stated the guy is a total piece of shit, but on the other hand, I also happen to enjoy a good career suicide every once in awhile. Way to become a footnote in Oscar history, fatty...

I'm sure he was doing what he thought was right.

Therefore, the answer is that he is a Patriotic Asshat.

For those wondering what an asshat is: Stop. It's just a word, like "dickhead" or "cockweasel".

I love ya CWM, but the glaring lies the man seems to throw around don't earn him any points with me. Lies and mistruths which I believe were pointed out in another thread.

Moore owns what? A cholesterol count well in the 4 digits? 9 chins? More lice than a child in Bangladesh?

His "documentaries" are jokes. Movie critics --- even non-conservative ones --- can't fail to notice the outright fabrications in, well, ALL of his work. He invents situations to fit his view --- which is fine and dandy if you're NOT claiming to be shooting documentaries.

The man's as intelligent as they come? You mean the criticism of the ineptitude of public schooling is correct?

Is it too much to ask for somebody's documentaries to not be lies?
