Guest EricMM Report post Posted March 31, 2003 Didn't you know? No-selling Tyler is the new "in thing" to do. PS America is far better than switzerland. I don't even know how we can argue Mexico. You may hate America's leadership, but America is still the best place to live on Earth.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted March 31, 2003 Hmmmmm, I dunno, Eric. Switzerland is pretty tight. Expensive, but they're environmentally stunning. No smog... wonderful mountains and rivers and lakes... *sigh* Though, America is far better politically.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 1, 2003 No you don't. Your leader is fucking moron. You get no respect from any other countries, besides the ones kissing the US's ass. Blah blah blah . . . liberal propaganda . . . blah blah blah . . . token crack at Bush’s intelligence . . . Can’t you do anything better than spout tripe that was tired two years ago? 9/11 was a horrible day and I was really sad that it happened but move on all ready. You really need to put the weed down. Hell, put the goddamn crack pipe down while you’re at it. “Move on?” Absolutely not. We should never forget and never forgive what happened on September 11th. To do anything else is a sacrilege to those who died, and especially dishonors those who willingly crashed the fourth plane in PA. Canada, Spain, Italy, France, hell even Mexico. Let’s see... in order: yeah right, don’t think so, come on, PUT THE FUCKING CRACK PIPE DOWN ALREADY, and puh-leeze. I’m glad you can randomly pull some countries from an almanac, but would you like to actually give some reasons why those countries are allegedly better than the US? Please note that your stupid anti-Bush rhetoric will not suffice as a reason. Do you want me to go on? No, you’ve already made a giant ass of yourself in a public forum. There’s no damage left to do, kid. It's too bad that Clinton couldn't have served another term in office. Gas prices wouldn't be at a ridiculous high, and at least there would be some peace in the world instead of the US and the UK sending their armed forces off to die un-necessary deaths in friendly fire and helicopter accidents. Gas prices are coming down. Crude oil is down over $8 a barrel in the last few months, and that’s with the escalating tensions in Iraq. As for peace in the world, I’m sure Clinton wouldn’t have launched strikes at anyone unless he were about to be impeached for porking another chubby intern. Seriously, I don’t think Clinton would have handled September 11th much differently. I’ll mock him for his eve-of-impeachment strikes in 1998, but I’m confident that he would have gone after Usama and Saddam. Anyway I'm done on this conversation. We’ll see. Imagine my pity if it’s true. Talking about the United States is a subject I usually try to stay away from because of what a joke it has become. We do more for the world than anyone, and our system of government liberates and empowers people instead of brutalizing and oppressing them. I don’t care if you see it or not: the US really is the best country going, and your willing blindness won’t change that.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 1, 2003 Gas prices are coming down. Ehhh... not really. They're still hovering up here in Nowhereville, Pennsylvania. That's the only comment I have besides *God damn, owned.*

Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 1, 2003 That's because Tom's dissertation was better. He stole some of it from me though. The almanac line, liberal propaganda- THAT WAS MINE DAMNIT. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 1, 2003 I didn't fish through the whole thread, but did someone in their right mind suggest Gas prices are now coming down.....what in the holy hell are they talking about? Unless not going up by .05 a day means, "coming down" then they sure as hell aren't coming down out here in CA.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 1, 2003 They're coming down where I live, to the tune of $0.10-0.15 per gallon. Crude oil prices have been falling for months, so it's not like the prices can't be lowered. Stations that haven't lowered their prices either bought a lot at the old prices, or (more likely) want to gouge the consumers at the pump.
Guest MD2020 Report post Posted April 1, 2003 QUOTE 9/11 was a horrible day and I was really sad that it happened but move on all ready. You really need to put the weed down. To do anything else is a sacrilege to those who died, and especially dishonors those who willingly crashed the fourth plane in PA. Why does the first quote remind me of people telling Jewish people to "move on" from the horrors of the Holocaust? Excellent reply, DrTom. Edit because I suck at the internet. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 1, 2003 I thought crude oil prices were going down for the past 4 months, and then hit an all-time high out of nowhere in March?
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 1, 2003 Regardless, it's still expensive as fuck here.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted April 2, 2003 except when compared to anywhere else in the world, such as any country in Europe. I mean if people are going to vouch for Switzerland's awsomeness, they'd better be ready to pay 4x for gas.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 2, 2003 They do that to force people to drive less, IIRC. They tax it to all holy hell.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I drive a pretty fuel efficient car. It used to be an average of $10 a week, now I have to spend on average $15 a week. Unless I do extra driving that is pretty good.
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Haven't come down in Seattle and about to top out around $2.00. Though for some reason in Elma they have gas at one station for $1.39 and everything else in the $1.80 range.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Damn, hell hath no fury like Dr Tom scorned! Anyhoo, I thought some of the contribution of the high gas prices was the situation going on in Venezuela and a workers strike or something along those lines. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 2, 2003 But my thing was first!!!!!! No one realises that? I'll stop being a whiny bitch and stay on topic. When I was in New York in February I didn't really notice gas prices were any different but who knows they could've been raised since the war began
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted April 2, 2003 Arguing the US is the #1 best place in the world no questions asked and arguing that it's worse than Mexico are both equally dumb statements. Realistically, the USA is in a class of countries (USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Denmark, etc.) that all have comparable quality of life levels, each with some unique advantages and disadvantages that make it hard to say any is clearly ahead of the others. As a Canadian I will say one thing though: Americans get raped up the ass in general for your internet access, and having been to Europe it's even worse. I don't know how we have it so cheap up here, but it's nice to pay 2/3rds of the equivalent US service.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I hear you Canucks also have quite the health care system, too. Bastards.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 2, 2003 And Switzerland is dreamy But... I still wouldn't move there permanantly. That's the thing, you can look at these places and stuff... and a lot are great to go for days, months, even a few years. However, when it comes down to it, I'd rather live my life in the United States than anywhere else.
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I like the USA, but there are too many strikes against it for me to consider it the best country - the constant advertising, particularly on TV and your endlessly baffling rejection of football or "soccer" as you like to call it would drive me to dribbling insanity in the end. I need my British quirks, but my problem with living in Britain is that I can't stand roughly three quarters of the country. Ireland is great (and economically pissing over the rest of Europe at the moment, strangely enough), but it just rains too much. Mainland Europe tends to contain too much naffness and really shitty music, despite all the obvious perks. I'll tell you what is awesome about the US though - gross over-consumption. American breakfasts are a thing of joy.
Guest Anorak Report post Posted April 2, 2003 One of the things I liked the most about America when I visited was how great the service was at almost every place my family visited. People seemed happy to answer any questions, give advice and just be accomodating in a freindly and unfussy manner. Americans must go to a customer service training school or something that doesn't exist anywhere in Europe. The other good stuff was the enormous portions of food, I can easily see why there's such a big many obesity problem over there. I don't think most people in the world who are fortunate to live in a 'decently' (vague term I know: For sake of argument, Western Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand etc, etc) advanced economic/westernized society would want to live anywhere else other than the place of their birth. The vast majority of people living in these kind of places would never consider swapping their own culture for a foreign one? And why would they? Personally I simply couldn't live anywhere else because I would just miss the British character and sense of humour too much. America is definately out because I would have to watch American sport. Guest TheMikeSC Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I wish I was in a position to do some protesting. Bush is a warmonger and his government is is fastly becoming a Nazi regime. The world won't be safe until Bush is out of the white house. Why can't you protest? Do you bathe and are afraid of sticking out? -=Mike Ha ha ha. Hilarious dude. The problem is that I live somewhere where protests aren't taking place because of small population. BTW, if I give you a couple of bucks would run out and grab a clue? Dreamer, you might wish to keep that money yourself. You certainly need a clue more. -=Mike Why? Because I'm not backing all the pro-america bullshit right now. 9/11 was a horrible day and I would love to see those involved brought to justice but ever since that day you yankee bastards think that you live in a society that is greater than everyone elses in the world. The reality is that the world is getting tired of all the USA crap but no one is in any place to do anything about it because the United States is too much of a powerful force full of hypocrites refusing to live by the strength of their of convictions. *Yawn*. Yeah, sure, whatever. Just sit back while somebody actually does the right thing. -=Mike
