Guest Deebo Report post Posted March 27, 2003 You know, the feeling when you were genuinely excited about Wrestlemania, when you still looked forward to it as the big event of the year. I guess we all still look forward to it as the big event of the year, but I think you guys know that "Feeling" that I'm talking about. For me it was Wrestlemania 14, because I was a huge HBK mark but I also was a big Austin fan. It was right around the time I got the internet and I was reading about HBK's injury and kind of thought it might be his last match. I think that was just a great overall event, also Mike Tyson definitely added to the feeling.
Guest Deebo Report post Posted March 27, 2003 BTW, I meant to say when was the last time you HAD that Wrestlemania feeling. i guess I left out the had. Oh well.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I was really up for the last 2. This one I think I'm only getting cause I have a brother coming in out of town anda friend coming in out of state, both will be up by then.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I lost it last year because of the lack of interest but I have it for this one just because it has that LARGER then Life feeling again... Only 18, 11 and 9 did I feel it...MMM...Notice something there?
HurriShane 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Well I definitley have that feeling this year but that's probably because I'm going to be there live. But before this, the last time I had the feeling was probably X7.
Guest papacita Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Probably 15, just cuz it was in Philly and there was always a slight chance of me getting tickets. I was pretty hyped for X-7 too, mainly because I didn't have cable for about 3 or 4 months, and this was the first show I'd seen since Unforgiven 2000. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Well since every WWE ppv nowadays is a get together for a bunch of pals, I usually look forward to the ppvs. Also Wrestlemania usually attracts the biggest group of ours. As for the PPV itself, it has been a few years since I was super-hyped.
Guest mw679 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 WM 14 for me just cuz I was there and also my buddy and I were huge Tyson and Stone Cold marks at the time. Before that, it was probably WM 10. I never really got too excited for 11-13.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Last Year. Nothing really happnening for me to get hyped for this years.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Well I definitley have that feeling this year but that's probably because I'm going to be there live. But before this, the last time I had the feeling was probably X7. Same here, I'll be there live as well so I'm probably pumped for this one more than any one before ever. I agree that last years did nothing for me before or after the event.
Guest C-Bacon Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Im always hyped for Mania even if its sometimes forced. It;s always fun to get excited. This year, although a tad predictable, has a good card , so i've got my WMXIX wallpaper and watching my old tapes gearing up for Sunday.
Guest Banky Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Austin-Rock WM 17 Dare I say the greatest WM match of all-time. Great build. Two biggest stars in history. Beautiful.
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Yeah the build for X-7 was awesome, the video packages couldn't help but get you pumped up and the show itself delivered. Still the best wrestling show ever. Last year I didn't care much, and in fact saw the show on a tape from a friend the next day avoiding the results. I must admit the reaction to Hogan/Rock was awesome the first time though. This year I pretty excited. I think the card is better than last year, and the build for the top matches has been good. Gert T 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I agree NoCalMike, its always a get together, and I'm sure my group will be larger because a couple extra will show up for WM. And if the show starts to get bad, there's always booze for backup entertainment.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 im pretty pumped for this years... but the last time I was truly excited for X-7, and it all paid off...
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I agree, Wrestlemania 14 was the last time it really felt like a huge show. Austin/HBK and Taker/Kane had long, great buildups and just about every undercard match had a REASON to happen, with good stories attached to them. XV just sucked pretty much. You started to see the lack of long-term booking leading up to WM. Taker/Bossman? Why was it such a big deal? Why the hell was it a HIAC? It was just filler with the HIAC stip added to make it somewhat of a draw. Other various lame matches filled this card. Wrestlemania 2000 had some good stuff, but the total lack of singles matches hurt it and the main event was pretty silly with the 'McMahon in every corner' nonsense. Wrestlemania X-7 had GREAT matches but the buildup for this show was a total joke. Everything was just thrown together at the last minute. Wrestlemania X8.. my god. All I have to say is, take a look at how bad this card is, and then try to imagine what it would've been like without the NWO being brought in, which was a panic move done about a month before the event because they had absolutely NOTHING to put on the biggest card of the year. I assume the original plan was to blow off the 'inVasion' once and for all at WM, but when that fell through, they sure didn't have a Plan B. Really scary to look at the lack of long-term booking evidenced here. This year's WrestleMania is not a big deal either. Angle/Lesnar is the one feud here that is a long-simmering feud ready to boil over (used to be a staple of WrestleMania) but the feud has been damaged by Lesnar being booked as a total superman. Somewhere along the line they forgot that Angle was the gold-medal winner among the two. HBK/Jericho has been a decently booked feud too, but it's always seemed more like two guys who dislike the other and occasionally bump into each other, as opposed to two guys dying to tear each other apart. The rest of the card is just stuff thrown together.
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted March 27, 2003 The build to Mania X-7 was NOT good, and I remember everyone complaining about it at the time. The pay per view itself turned out to be a classic and one of the greatest of all time yes... but the build to it was not very good at all. The Austin/Rock build was pretty good, but mainly involved run ins and exchanging each other's finishing moves. Everything else was thrown together at the last minute with the exception of Ivory/Chyna which had been going since Rumble
Guest Banky Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Austin-Rock WM 17 Dare I say the greatest WM match of all-time. Bret/Owen from WM X will disagree with you. WM X ruled the school. But I don't cream myself over psychology and leg locks. I loved that match, but the story to WM 17 ruled. The match was beautifully executed, and it had unreal heat. Everything about the match was amazing. I even liked the ending, 5 stunners and all. *****. Oh no, but it had a screwy finish and run in by Vince McMahon - better make it ****3'
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I'm looking forward to this one a lot. Last time though would have to be WM 14 because I was such an Austin mark.
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted March 27, 2003 As for the question... the last time I truly remember being a mark for WrestleMania was... WrestleMania 5 That's when I was truly a mark... and I believed everything was real. A year later, my parents broke the news to me that the "fix was in" so to speak, and I never looked at it quite the same way again. WrestleMania is still magical to me, and I still look forward to it every year... but it's never been and never will be quite the same as when I was 8 years old
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 27, 2003 EternallyLazy is right. Rock and Austin, seems like it writes itself, but they sure had a hard time figuring out ways for them to hate each other? Remember when Debra was forced to be Rock's manager? I'll add that Wrestlemania X-8 was CLOSE, just on the strength of Rock/Hogan which had a really epic feel. Mostly due to that Raw after No Way Out with the Rock/Hogan promo and then the beatdown, one of the best Raw segments ever IMO. But I can't believe they "jobbed" the NWO right after that show...sigh Back in late 2002 I thought they really had something with this Angle/Brock feud, with the alignment with Heyman adding a layer to the feud, and them Team Angle brought in.. but Brock was booked to be just too invincible every week. Yes, sometimes, the 'cowardly heel runs from the face and finally gets his comeuppance at Wrestlemania' IS the correct storyline. Austin/HBK at WM14 is a perfect example. But not here. Two very accomplished amateur wrestlers, both have been protected pretty well for the past several months (Brock a lot more than Angle yes, but let's not get sidetracked), they could really have a great "Who will win this match?!" buzz if they handled it correctly, Angle's injury nonwithstanding. But instead the question in fans' minds isn't so much 'Who will win' but instead 'I wonder how many F5s Brock will give Angle?'
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I was pumped for XII because it was my first Wrestlemania I hadn't seen on an old tape from the video store. Wrestlemania 13 did nothing for me. Down period for WWF, I got away from TV a little, and was mostly unenthused, despite the close proximity of the show to me. I didn't even watch. Wrestlemania XIV was huge for me. Wrestlemania XV was one where I was sort of looking forward to it, but wouldn't ahve been heartbroken if I had to miss. Wrestlemania 2000 was one I was looking forward to vastly because of Chris Benoit's first big PPV match in the WWF, which I had waited for since 1996. Wrestlemania XVII was the most excited I've ever been for a wrestling show. I waited for weeks, and was not let down. I didn't even know when Wrestlemania X8 was, and it came and went without me knowing.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 27, 2003 the last time was definitely X-7...fanTASTIC show, and the first of many in the Angle/Benoit series! I thought the Gimmick Battle Royale was done great as well, and hell everything save for Ivory/Chyna was done awesomely. I can tell you I feel the same way about this Wrestlemania, it feels great only I think the marketing is being done the wrong way it really should be focused on the 2 title matches and hell even Austin/Rock IV rather than Vince/Hogan. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I had it for XVII, didn't really have it last year, but I have it this year. The sports bar and the potential for a good entranceway that doesn't look like a construction project have me hyped.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I had it for the last 2. WrestleMania X-7 was the first PPV I had ordered since Road Wild '97 - so obviously I was looking forward to that show. Last year's wasn't bad either. WrestleMania is rarely "bad". It may not live up to some of the previous years but in comparison to the rest of the year's events - it holds up.
