Worst SNL cast member ever...

Recommended Posts

Guest Youth N Asia

Now don't go for someone you have a vendeta against. Who was the worst of all time?

My vote: Melanie Hutsell.

She was on the show a little while and never did anything remotly funny. Her big deal was doing a Tori Spelling impression which just consisted of her making ugly faces. (which seemed to come pretty easy to her) and that was all the character did, it wasn't at all funny. She also has an unfunny Jan Brady. Never made me laugh.

There's so many other shitty cast memebers to go...

Ellen Cleghorn. Whoever thought she deserved to be on there needs to die.

I know he's not really deserving of being labled the worst - especially in comparison to the names already mentioned here - but I never thought Colin Quinn fit in with SNL. He got the audience to laugh by noting that his jokes suck, which they did...

I don't know about any of the other skits he didn, but for weekend update he was just way too stiff and uptight. He never seemed comfortable doing it.

Certainly Anthony Michael Hall can be put into consideration. Also, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Maya Rudolph are pretty terrible.

Jimmy Fallon's first two seasons disqualify him from the list IMO.

I'm gonna have to go with Janeane Garafalo who spent her whole half season bitching and complaining about her role on the show.

I'm in the minority of thinking Colin kicked ass on WU. Lenny the Lion is so awesome that I cant hate Colin

Maya Rudolph's pretty good and is probably the best female cast member on the show do to her ability to do just about any part.

Horatio Sanz is so-so. He's not horrible but he's not great. He's just there as a background guy and he does that job well.

Jimmy Fallon meanwhile is a total and complete waste of space. He's a lousy Adam Sandler-wannabe who has no real talent whatsoever...

Quinn is my favorite news guy, besides Chase and Curtain.

Fallon is a fucking ass. I haven't as much as chuckled ONCE when he is on screen. I roll my eyes a lot, especially when he starts laughing in the middle of the fucking sketch.

Molly Shannon. She started out all right but quickly became an over-dramatic spotlight-stealing annoyance. Need proof? The Fight Club 'monologue'. 'Nuff said.

I didn't like Melanie Hutsell either. She could do one voice and that Tori Spelling 'impersonation'. Weak.

Chris Kattan irritates me, too, but at least the Roxbury Guys made me laugh, which puts him above the aforementioned two.

He's still not as bad as Phil Hartman.

I thought Phil Hartman was great. His Donahue, Clinton, Trump impersonations are golden.

I never have thought Tim Meadows was funny at all. He just seemed to take up space. I was suprised he lasted for so long.

Jimmy Fallon did a funny John Lennon impersonation and I like him on Weekend Update. He is a guilty pleasure what can I say.

I had reallllllly hoped that the fact that the man's picture is in my sig would show everyone I was being sarcastic. Instead, let me explain....

Phil Hartman is my favorite person to have ever been on SNL and is one of my comedic heroes.

Spaceman Spiff better be joking- I mean he BETTER be.

Maya Rudolph is pretty awful. Wake Up Wakefield is too hit and miss and skits such as Subway Fred (and spinoffs like Subway Fred is now named Reggie) are truly wastes of good airtime. At least they put them on at 12:50. Versave is also pretty bad.

Tim Meadows was awesome- he didn't really come until his own until around 1995 when all the original cast left and he got to do his OJ impression. His impressions of OJ and Don King were fantastic and of course he has the Ladies Man. Tim also was in two of the most underrated and forgotten characters- His awesome Russel and Tate skits with Tracy Morgan and PERSPECTIVES! with Lionel Osbourne.

I hated the Ladies Man. However, Perspectives RULED.

Oh, and I think Maya Rudolph's all right. She's useful because she can do ANY ethnicity, it seems.

The Ladies Man movie was pretty bad as was the Bill Murray edition but I enjoyed most of them.

I never can understand why they try to pass Maya off as black since she doesn't really look the part

We did this awhile back. I have to go with Melanie Hutsell too. I hated her so much, just the definition of annoying and useless. My top ten list:

1) Melanie Hutsell

2) Ellen Cleighorn

3) Robert Downey, Jr.

4) Cheri Oteri

5) David Spade

6) Rachel Dratch

7) Molly Shannon

8) Anthony Michael Hall

9) Christopher Guest

10) Brad Hall

meadows doesn't have a really showy style like a hartman or a carvey, but he's great at being the straight man or the window dressing for a scene.

i vaguely remember seeing a few episodes with robert downey jr in them, and he stuck out like a sore thumb. he was really awkward and didn't seem to be able to milk the crowd at all.

just about anybody from the dreaded phase between the 70s cast and the murphy-piscopo cast also qualifies, cause that season was AWFUL.

Typo on my part Bob, thanks for catching it. I meant Christopher Guest. I love his movies, don't get me wrong. But he was stiff and bland on SNL and horrible on update.

He wasn't kicked off the show.

Lorne Michaels let him out of his contract per Norm's request.

I gave a brief summary of Norm-gate in my latest review so I'll repost it here-

First of all- Norm was not FIRED by SNL. He was fired from Weekend Update but was let out of his contract by Lorne Michaels on his own wishes.

The West Coast President of NBC Don Ohelemeyer had it in for Norm and Weekend Update producer James Downey from the very start. He just didn't like Norm's style of humour and reportedly didn't like the numerous cracks at OJ Simpson. In early January Norm was called by Ohelemeyer and him and Downey were fired from Update and replaced by Colin Quinn. Ohlemeyer thought not many people would care and it would be swept under the bridge.

He was wrong.

Norm went on Howard Stern and David Letterman that week and told the story of his firing as people were in shock. Letterman even leaned over to Norm during the commercial break and asked if this was all a work.

NBC also got exposed for being a ratings obsessed soulless corporation. Conan O'Brien told stories of getting cancelled but then getting uncancelled when NBC had nothing to replace him with. He was told to never book guests who when they are on- the ratings dropped a smidge. It was a huge black eye for NBC and it completely backfired. Warren Littlefield, president of NBC, was kicked over the Seinfeld when he visited. Why? Cause of the Norm firing. Poor Colin Quinn was put in an uncomfortable position and caught in the crossfire.

Norm really didn't want to stay on the air as anymore. He didn't think he was good in skits and really had no interest in staying. Lorne Michaels sympathised with him realising he had gotten screwed and let him out of his contract. I cried that day.

So the bottom line-

Norm was fired from Weekend Update by the NBC West Coast President but was voluntarily let out of his contract by Lorne

Yeah, I was joking. But I do put him low on the list of WU anchors.

Michael McKean was on the late 90s during the years when the writers were putting fluff on tv.

Kevin Nealon. For the number of years he was on the show, he was rarely funny and messed up his lines way too much.

Maya's cute. So that disqualifies her from my list.

And I'll change my answer from Gary Kroeger to Kevin Nealon. At least Gary had some success with his Donny and Marie skits with Julia Louis Dreyfus. Nealon brought nothing to the table.

I'd put Brad Hall, Melanie Hustell and Victoria Jackson on my bottom 3. I'd say Mark McKinney was bottom 10 as well, but outside of Scottish Football Hooligans Weekly he was totally misused.
