Just Depressing

Watching the Wrestlemania Moments the other night I realized just how depressing some of them are from a fan perspective. Will we ever get a moments again like Hogan slamming Andre? Will we ever again get the emotion of HBK's title win at XII?? Or how about the story told by Austin and Bret Hart at XIII??

We instead get an injured HHHasbeen (in my opinion) wrestling one of the most popular stars who will never get a World Title win in WWE. We get a former WWF staple of HBK at Wrestlemania, but instead of a match that will raise the bar and set the audience on fire, we get a man who shouldn't be there, but is there as a failing effort to boost ratings and buyrates in a poorly done feud which has been carried by Y2J. We get the the American Badass, trying to carry a horribly green (I actually watched a WWA PPV with him in it) Aussie, a walking rug, and a fat lazy 'Giant' in a pointless tag match because they have to be on the show instead of planning months in advance. Worst off is knowing that the Undertaker and Nathan Jones will win because how could anyone possibly believe 'Taker's undefeated 'Mania streak will come to an end like that?

The one this that got me the worst though was hearing Bobby Heenan. His voice was something I always remembered from my childhood, from countless interviews and coloring commentaries, but now since his cancer he sounds..well...different. I understand that cancer will do that, and I'm glad Vince and Co. got him to add his feelings and opinions but its sad to hear him in that condition. Its like seeing Classy Freddy Blassie confined to a wheelchair except to stand for 10 seconds to inspire the locker room in the Invasion angle. It's knowing that the Ultimate Warrior (someone I totally marked for as a child), fell from the 'grace' of memories of invincibility and superiority in rambling anger, bitter commentaries and horrible poorly planned WCW fueds.

Maybe I'm just lost in the past.

I hear you, but I'm sure in the future you'll have more mark out moments. They may be few and far between but they'll come.

Possibilities:

Booker winning the belt from HHH

Kurt Angle's last match before surgery and not knowing if he will come back

Try to go in and just watch the show without over analyzing everything and you may enjoy some matches.

I was actually going to make a comment on how Albert is more than a walking rug. But I understand your feelings on this. The company has degenerated into shit.

I think that WM XIX is easily capable of being one of the best. I have no doubts, in my mind, that Booker T is going to win the World Title... and IMO, that could be a WM moment. And what about Angle & Lesnar? Although certain spots and moves won't be allowed due to the neck, you have to believe that Angle and Lesnar will still put on a great and epic match. Hell, I really don't think Angle would risk doing this match UNLESS we're gonna see something special.

It's true... the guy is nothing but a walking rug. His heel tactic is having too much hair... on his back, that is.

You know, it was a really good, well thought out post, I just disagree with most of the things you said.

I don't think Triple H is a has been, and he is still entertaining to me. I think that Booker T. eventually will get a World Title run. I think that HBK can still go, and I don't think the storyline was poorly done. People still want to see the Undertaker, and the WWE wants to get the other guys on there because of their hardwork last year. You can't deny that Albert has been busting his ass, even if you don't like him. Nathan Jones, on the other hand, I think they are just rolling with because he has a "look."

I excited for this years Wrestlemania. If you can't get excited for Wrestlemania, you're probably never gonna get excited for wrestling.

Yahmean?

I am excited about Wrestlemania. I am incredibly excited to see Angle/Lesnar, the Smackdown tag title match, and Rey/V1. I just can't get a desire for the other parts of the card.

And maybe I was a little harsh by calling HHH a has been. he may not be an official has been but has defenitly lost a large somethin since tearing his quad and I can't find him entertaining at all.

I'm much more excited about this Mania than I was about last year's filth.

There is a slight possibility of getting 4-5 high calibre matches and I can live with that. Every year, a little crap creeps up on us but this year, most of the crap has been kept to a minimum. This Sunday, I'll be more than happy to wait for the big show. I don't say that about many wwe events.

Brock/Angle has the possibility of being a moment in similar to magnitude to Austin/HBK.

Very true, but it also has the potential to be a moment like D'Lo/Droz and that kinda takes away from it.

True enough, but I try not to think that way. If it happens, it happens. It is beyond the point of being able to change it, so try to remain positive.

Brock & Angle should be careful enough.

Austin/Rock from WM17 was my favorite WM moment ever, so it can't be that dead. Hogan's return to the WWE last year wasn't too shabby neither. I don't care for the guy, but I was marking out when he started doing all of his old mannerisms from the past. Now...now his act is old. I'd mark if he turned heel again. baha. Yay, come back nash.

I disagree, to a certain extent. Part of the reason the match and Austin's win is so special is that it's the end of Austin's "eight-year journey" and he's finally reached the top, after months of career-ending injuries and conspiracies. Brock has already held the title and, ever since he lost it, it's been a mere formality of how they'll get it back to him. Maybe that's just me, though.

No you are right. There is not excitement in the chance for one's second World Title. I was far more stoked for Lesnar's first big match against The Rock. This one is especially tarnished by the injury buzz. At WM 14 everyone knew Michaels was hurt, but not to the extent of Angle's. I thought Michaels woulda been back by Summerslam 98....how wrong was I? But he's a pussy...like Dames.

Thanks for not frontin', Banky. Word life.

While we're on the subject, this month's RAW magazine was printed just for you. Cena's on the cover and Nash is interviewed.

I always heard that we were gonna get Tyson/Cold Stoned against HBK/HHH, but I was easily fooled by newsboards back then.

I think I am the only one that still isn't buying into Brock Lesnar. I know Angle has the ability to carry the match and make it entertaining, which I know it will be, however after WM, what is Lesnar gonna do, he better find others than can carry him, because so far he is rather dull and plain to me, in the ring and on the mic.

Posted

You're not the only one, NoCalMike. The writing team made the worst mistake when they broke Brock away from Heyman. Because, quite frankly, Brock just doesn't have the in-ring skills to make up for his bad mic skills.

Jericho and HBK offers up such a great story of a wrestler trying to be his idol and ocming into his own, and his idol not realizing his time has passed. Jericho going over would be good.

Brock's good enough in the ring and he'll be matched up with good mic workers for a while. The match should be all mat based and really good, and the Settle crowd should be receptive.

If Booker went over, it'd be a really good thing.

Tag match could be strong, not enough to produce a moment but strong.

Rey's win could symbolically be lifting the cruiserweight division out of the ditch. Fortunately, they've been forced to finally get behind it and Rey has some cred to him from hanging with the heavies.

If Hogan retires, they could do that. Heck, just don't give him a contract and let him go out on top.

I think the next big Wrestlemania moment for people will be when (or better, IF) RVD wins his first World Title at Wrestlemania. I think that would really be a huge ovation and make for a great moment to see everyone on their feet cheering him.

I think if HBK just goes balls out on Sunday to put on a classic match with Jericho, that could be a WM moment. If Jericho is motivated, which I think he will be for Shawn, and HBK just throws caution to the wind, that could be great.
