Guest djsunyc Report post Posted March 31, 2003 at the end of the rock/austin matched, rock seemed a little choked up. he went over to his family and then as he walked back, he looked like he was starting to tear up. he even rubbed his eyes a couple of times. then he beated on his heart and looked like he pointed back to steve. was it part of the "retirement" angle with rock or was it actual emotion since this is probably the last time they'll both actually fight? just something i noticed. Bored 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2003 It was actual emotion I think with his family being there but the problem with it was that it essentially turned him face and he really didn't wrestle like a heel during the match beyond putting Austin's vest on. He's need be back in true heel mode tonight.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted March 31, 2003 It probably is their last time. Austin's pretty much done for, and I think Rock knows that even if he is still around, Austin won't be.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 31, 2003 It was the blow-off match that Rock finally won. I'd expect emotion.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2003 My friends and I noticed it too. First the promo w/ Coach where he said something to the effect that if he beat Austin he would have accomplished everything in his wrestling career, then kind of looked pensive and trailed off. The the match, where he threw out the elbow pads (face Rocky) rather than flipping the crowd off (heel Rocky) for the People's Elbow. After the match, he spent quite some time talking to Austin before going to all 4 corners, kissing his family, and walking off. Then it looked like he was tearing up and trying to wipe it away. All in all it almost sounds like Rock's either A) Going to be gone for a while again soon or B) Retiring (hence the "accomplished everything in my career" line. Just a thought. Guest djsunyc Report post Posted March 31, 2003 i think austin is great. his two characters - the initial run as the toughest sob (97-2000) and his paranoid what character of 2001 were absolutely awesome. he did a great job. i thought flair was a legend. his whole run through the 80's and early 90's. one man, one character, and it worked. even hogan and to a lesser extent, the heel piper from the 80's were great. honorable mention goes to kurt angle. given more time, he can be the one but.... as of right now, in my opinion, especially after this last run, i think the rock is the best ever in this business. his charisma is UNMATCHED. no one can hold a candle to this guy. the way he holds the crowd in the palm of his hand. the way he makes up for his "lack of ability" with timing and hustle. i really do think he is the best ever. and watching him choke up last night was really sad in the fact that i think we just saw his last wrestlemania for a while. with 2 more movies on the horizon, he knew this was it. and he's really in the prime of his career wrestling wise. hopefully angle with heal and become the next guy but right now it's the great one...
