The only reason Goldust was on the show was because a week prior to him appearing they had just started ripping on Goldust for his tourettes gimmick. And since that was the only real reason Stern wanted him in, it was a lose-lose situation. Either:

 

A) Goldust stays in character, makes the interview funny, promotes WM, and some people bitch about it.

 

or

 

B) Goldust comes in and does a competent, but nonetheless average interview, gets called on for his bad impressions, and gives the WWE really bad publicity because of it.
