Colliseum Video Gems

Recommended Posts

Guest Dmann2000

I just thought I'd create a thread here for everyone to talk about their favorite matches off of Colliseums videos, be they Best of 1-20, Supertape, Battle of the Superstars, Wrestlefest, or wrestler specific tapes.

I start with Savage/Hart vs Flair/Michaels from Grudges, Gripes and Grunts. This is a long match (around 20 minutes) with great heel tactics from Flair/Michaels and its almost as if Savage is giving Hart his seal of approval during the match (something that rat bastard Hogan wouldn't do).

Rick Rude vs. Roddy Piper from Best of the WWF Vol 20. It is a wicked old school cage match with with some decent bumps.

Cool thing is, I probably saw that match live, not the specific one on that video but I did see a Rude/Piper cage match and Freedom Hall in Louisville in Feb. 1990.

Did Rude gets the back of his tights pulled down and he wrestled with his ass hanging out for awhile?

Dude it was 13 years ago, you think a 10 year old boy wanted to remmember if a grown man's bare ass was hanging out for him to see? LOL

World Tour 1992 features a ~SWANK~ Randy Savage vs Shawn Michaels match(their only ever one on one match) which has HBK destroying Savage's knee(which he was STILL selling from WM8).

On Macho Madness there are 2 excellent Savage/DiBiase matches which blow WM4 out of the water.

I think that Rude/Piper cage match was from MSG....if so, I have it on Supertape 2, as well. Very good match.

I LOVED that match. Non stop action!

I'll add Duggan vs. Savage from MSG on Mega Matches. Don't laugh if you haven't seen it.

Plus, Steamboat vs. Savage from Best of WWF Volume 9 is also very good. Although, theat should come as no surprise.

Speaking of gems, I'm watching a very rare video from 1986, Macho Man Randy Savage & Elizabeth that I got today. Cost me $30, but it's worth it! Hogan is currently Hulking up on Savage in the Lumberjack Match. Ahh dammit, Steele just tripped up Savage and Hogan dropped the leg for the 1-2-3! But this TNT segment should make up for it. His shirt says "Hulk Who?" LOL! This studio audience is like an 80s version of WWF New York.

I'd rec the Bret-Steamboat match off the Hart Foundation tape, remember being blown away by it when I was a kid.

Hogan vs. Schultz from the first Hulkamania tape is a really fun brawl, both guys juice good and generally beat the piss out of one another.

Black Tiger vs. Cobra from Best of WWF Vol. 1 is awesome for 1983.

Bulldogs vs. Goluet/Rodz from Best of Vol. 3 is a fun match, total exhibition of Bulldogs style.

Harts vs. Steiners from Wrestlefest 1994 is mentioned in very high regard.

The first two Hogan vs. Savage MSG matches (leading up to the Lumberjack match) were both very hot, with Savage juicing really good in the re-match in January.

Most of the Harts vs. Bulldogs matches are good.

Steamboat vs. Muraco from the Steamboat tape is really good, hot crowd, only dumbass booking drops it down.

That match was actually on Super Tape 2.

The sad things is I have master copies of most of the CHV ... so, the list is a little long.

Almost anything from the Bulldogs and Hart Foundation tapes:

Dynamite vs. Bret from Landover

Bulldogs vs. Harts from Boston

Bret vs. Steamboat from Boston

Harts & Danny Davis vs. Hogan & Billy Jack Haynes (just to see Hogan and Bret in the ring together) from Even More Unusual Matches

Harts vs. Rockers from WrestleFest 90

Harts vs. LOD from WrestleFest 91

Almost anything from Hulkamania 1 (where Hogan actually works) and Inside the Steel Cage:

Hogan vs. Schultz

Hogan vs. Valentine

Backlund vs. Patterson from MSG (cage)

Savage / Adonis vs. Sammartino / Santana from MSG (cage)

Bret vs. Flair from Invasion 92

Shawn vs. Flair from Invasion 92

Warrior vs. Dibiase from the Tokyo Dome from World Tour 90

Bret vs. Bigelow from Barcelona from Global Warfare

Shawn / Diesel vs. Razor / Kid from Shawn Michaels: Hits from the Heartbreak Kid

The previously mentioned Shawn vs. Savage match from Munich, Germany featured on World Tour 92. HBK had a few title shots against Savage but that's the only one I've seen on video or TV.

I really liked Rampage 92. It's not big on 4 star matches but it's the very first CHV I ever rented.

- Warrior / Taker vs. Shango / Bezerker

- Bret vs. Shawn

- Bulldog wins a 40-man battle royal

- Savage vs. Repo

- Taker vs. Razor

- LOD / Elloring vs. Beverlys / Genius

- Tatanka vs. Martel

...maybe a few others.

Bret vs. Flair from Smack 'em, Whack 'em

Bret vs. HBK in a Ladder Match, also from Smack 'em, Whack 'em

Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart in a lumberjack match for the WWF title is pretty good, but I can't remember what tape it was from.

Michaels vs. Jannetty from Monday Night Raw: Prime Cuts

No love for Flair-Bret from Smack 'Em Whack 'Em? Or the Bret-Shawn ladder match from the same tape?

I believe Wham, Bam, Bodyslam. The match is from Portland, ME in July 94.

Right here... Smack 'Em Whack 'Em is my only Coliseum tape, and those two matches make that tape. I love them both.

Oh okay, this match is from a TV taping right before the Raw match. Perfect gets the clean pin with the Perfect Plex when Flair lowers his head. The Raw match is better - this had a lot of potential but it was too short.

It's may be on Supertape 2 but that isn't where I saw it. I saw it on Wrestling Superheroes, which I should have known since I review it for the site.

Okay, this is funny, on the Best of the WWF vol. 7, there's an IC title match between Tony Atlas and Ken Patera, from the big Shea Stadium event.

What was cool was seeing Vinny Mac do the ring introductions. This is about 2 years before he bought out Capitol Sports I believe.

Jannetty vs. HBK from Raw Prime Cuts is one of my favorite coliseum video matches. Awesome tape all around

Supertape 92 had the Roberts/Savage match/aftermath from TTIT, which is a pretty good 20 minutes of action and drama.
