Interview With 'Taker

Recommended Posts

Guest Lightning Flik

Just before Smackdown came on, The Score (Canadian Channel) had an interview with Mark Calloway.

It was quite interesting, and sadly I don't have a transcript of it. I'll just give a brief overview and should someone have a transcript of it, maybe they could post it here. Also, there will be a second part next week before Smackdown, just in case anyone is interested.

Overview:

- Firstly asked about the state of the business and how it's on a slide, 'Taker attributed it to the fact that the economy is going down and that he during his times with the WWE, he has seen it goes up and down with it. So since the economy is going down, the WWE product is going down.

- Taker commented on the fact that he didn't politick to get the term as Leader, he earned it.

- When asked about all the new generation, while Taker praises the new talent for it's tenacity and heart for the business and they are willing to go; on the flip side, he says that they didn't go through the indies as he did and thus instead of working on psychology, they instead turn to high risk. Taker is quick to say that isn't good resource management, as he insuinuates that the guy's are getting hurt because of it.

- As Taker made a comment that he didn't quite care for the internet "smarts" (he almost said smarks), the host then asks about that. Taker comments that the fact he doesn't appreciate the "smarts" that think they have all the solutions and believe they have the "one" solution to fix up the problems faced by the WWE. He also comments that the ones that always do that forget that they are fans, and should try to remember that they are that. Yet, he also admits that he does like fans to make critizisms on the WWE product as they should and even enjoys some of the web sites (looks like he was about to say some but just continues on), just not the extremes that some of them take it.

That was about all they got in this part of the interview. Sorry if I blunder some parts up; I'm just going by what I remember.

Amen Taker.

Damn...you know what....The guy is absolutely right about that. We always think we have the answers and whine and bitch about everything. Maybe we should try a little harder to enjoy ourselves and stop criticizing everything.

That sounds like a hell of an interview. Hopefully we get a recap on the net.

Once again, I apologize if I bastardized this in anyway. I was so looking forward to Smackdown (which is on right now for me), I kinda thought someone else would've gotten it done.

Maybe they'll replay it before the Smackdown replay

Hope so. Cause then others can see it. At least everyone who's got the Score can see part 2 next week.

I missed it too, but the Score replays everything.

I can say this: Our answers are 100x's better than the WWEs.

That kind of goes without saying when the WWE braintrust's biggest recent decisions lately were "Let's sign some green guy named Nathan Jones and give him a push." "Vince-Hogan should be the focus of Wrestlemania" and "Why didn't we rehire Piper and Sable before now?"

I shouldn't have to TRY to enjoy a TV show.

Uuuum....by saying TRY to enjoy the show more......i mean a little less bitching and complaining, and a little more relaxing. Like for instance Triple H vs. Hurricane ...........It was a good match where Hurrican actually dominated most of the match and got a ton of offense and even had a phantom pin, with Triple H winning at the end....and whats the response? "fuck Triple H" "fuck you HHH" "burn in hell hhh" "triple h cant stop holding people down"...........now, why the fuck should the Hurrican beat HHH, the guy is the top heel on Raw and the World Champion, yet even after putting on a good match and making the other guy look good all there was was complaining. Enough is enough once in a while.

Exactly - hows about this...

Maybe they should TRY to put on better shows.

Cause, you know, they want US watching - it's THEIR responsiblity (to a point - there is a point where people can be hyper-critical... I just haven't seen it yet here with the WWE. No one demands absolute perfection night-in and night-out, but some of us would like to see them TRY for it.)

If the match went 12 mins and they had some convincing near falls, and they actually pushed that Hurricane almost pulled the upset for a few weeks, I'd agree with you. All that happened Hurricane got in some token offense until he got a peedigree 3 mins in. They just had to feed him to HHH after getting a decent push (that would have set him up for the IC is HHH hadn't killed), now he's just another guy in a long line to get there heat sucked out by jobbing to HHH.

HHHate is hardly confined to the IWC. I talk to a few marks, and they all comment how they're tired of HHH always winning and how boring he is. Just look at how much rating have dropped in a year plus of HHH being the top guy.

I'm a HHHater too, but the guy has looked a little better lately, and it wouldnt make sense for Hurricane to beat him anyway so why get pissed when he wins when we all know the result anyway?

Ok.........so you guys complain when he's not on TV..........talking about how hes being wasted..........and now you're complaining that he's in a match losing against the top heel.........what do you want? Some of you guys can NEVER be satisfied.

It's not that.

I would rather have them BUILD hurricane up before giving him the title shot. Because then he would actually BENEFIT from it in the long-term rather than just for a night. What the WWE is doing with him is incredibly inconsistant and that can really hurt.

I was satisfied with the product when it was good.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that everyone here has been satisfied before. Why else would they be fans?

I agree with you 100%. But in WWE world the guy is just too small to be taken seriously. So if it was between what we've been seeing over the last few weeks of him, or him not being on TV and getting squashed every week then i'd rather see him win a few matches and look somewhat strong in his losses.

And I'd rather see him booked strong - why should I settle for less?

We want Hurricane to get the decent push he deserves which, a year ago, would have meant a good run with the IC title. I'd have loved to seen an IC title feud between him and Rico, with both of them tended to be the most misused wrestlers on RAW.

Hey I bet 10 bucks that some of us could book a show 10x better than what the WWE is putting out. But if we were given the opportunity and it went against company line then they'd fire us for trying to think outside the box. That's the problem....nobody can get creative there. It's a bullshit place to work.

And yeah.....like I've said a million times(shouldn't have to defend myself this much), I am not looking for faults. I am sitting down trying to be entertained and what I see DOES NOT ENTERTAIN ME. I've tried to enjoy it(which I shouldn't have to do) and I end up just getting pissed more. "Sit back and enjoy it" is one of the biggest bullshit statements anyone can make.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I enjoy the current product.. (Hell I've enjoyed it for 20 years) I love Hogan...I can't wait to see Piper's antics again...I mark for Taker...Angle's a GOD no doubt...Brock is pretty damn "cool" in my eyes....Cena's gonna breakout real soon... and we get the Beniots/Gurreros etc to provide quality midcard matches to supplement the other crap....

Nathan Jones sucks in the ring, but i really don't see a problem with having him constantly avoid having actually matches... In the marks eyes, he's still an X factor...and if taker's walking tall with him, people will take notice and accept him...(Kinda Ahmed Johnson like)

I could go on, but what's the point...

Here's pulling for a Hogan/Mr.T vs Piper/Bob Orton WM 20 rematch...Snuka and Orndorff can be in the corners (Okay I'm kidding about this last part!)

I saw the interview. Taker put over the writers as being talented, which was pretty hilarious. You'd think talented writers could, oh, write a decent storyline or two.

People talking about how they can book better shows reminds me of people saying how their fantasy league sports team is better than the real thing. Everything looks all nice and good on a piece of paper, or a computer screen.

I'm pretty sure that a blind monkey could book a better show than the WWE writers.

Hell keep it simple.....just a bunch of straight wrestling. If you want a storyline mixed in here make sure it's wrestling related. And if it's not make sure it's no overly stupid soap opera bullshit........and EVERYTHING SHOULD LEAD TO A MATCH.

See it's not that fucking hard.
