That was so not a proper dvd, id say it was more of a fireman's carry into a on the side suplex variant, or something like that(im not the greatest person with move names so if its not a side suplex, help me out here). A proper DVD is head first into the mat. I know WWE policy forbids that, but couldnt they have atleast made up a better name for it and not lie and call it something its not. I mean the Cenadriver, or the 187, or something rap related would certainly add to the character.

A proper DVD isn't head-first into the mat...a proper DVD is landing on your shoulders ala a German suplex with your head tucked so that it appears that you are being planted head-first. I consider Cena's version to be a DVD.

the Safer DVD is actually what the WWF did before compacting the wrestler's body atop the shoulders and grip him tight then take the side drop holding him still in the process. Cena seems to really drop him on the side turn.

That was a spinning sit-out uranage, sort of. Kinda like a Blue Thunder Bomb. Starts out like a back suplex, then he twists the guy around into a sitting Rock Bottom (or the Bronx Bomb that DeVito of the Baldies used).

 

Speaking of the DVD, isn't Tommy Dreamer still using it as a finisher? I always thought there was an unspoken rule about duplicating finishers. I guess it doesn't matter until we see Dreamer use something else, because if there was a choice, management would most likely go with the guy with the big push.

That would assume that either Tommy Dreamer wrestles, or that if he wrestles he'll actually win. Not that I hope he doesn't but he tends to finish alot of matches on his back. He's almost like a new millenium version of the Brawler.

I'm not sure of the history of the death valley driver. I'm guessing it originated in Japan or Mexico and has another name.

 

Did the American term for it, the Death Valley Driver, originate with Saturn in WCW (or ECW)? That would kind of be his legacy from his stay in the Big 3.

 

I remember when Godfather used to do the move several years ago, and they referred to it as the DVD before finally using the Pimp Drop. I thought it was cool they acknowledged it as the DVD even though it was from another organization.

It's original name is Death Valley Bomb.

Invented by Etsuko Mita. She like many other Joshi stars invented a lot of stuff in wrestling, and used it before the men did.

 

DVD is just a translation thing.
