Guest MrRant Report post Posted April 4, 2003 By John Clayton ESPN.com The Seahawks offered more money, but failed to sign defensive end Hugh Douglas, who went to Jacksonville. However, they came up with a pass-rushing defensive end at a more reasonable price. Chike Okeafor reached a two-year, $4 million deal that includes a $2 million signing bonus with the Seahawks on Friday. Okeafor, 26, will be brought in to Seattle to play right end. The Seahawks pass rush has been missing for the past couple seasons Okeafor, 27, will reunite with his former defensive line coach, Dwaine Board. Okeafor is coming off his best season. He had six sacks and 32 tackles. Okeafor chose between the Seahawks and Broncos after visiting a total of six teams. There were some concerns about the back problems that have nagged Okeafor for the past couple of years. The Broncos and Seahawks were his last two visits. I'm happy for any move that improves the defense.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2003 Someone finally signed Okeafor... nice Oh well, doesn't prevent the fact that the 49ers are gonna beat the Seahawks again just like last year.

Bored 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 There's a reason why the 49ers seem to always be looking for ways to improve their pass rush every year and Okeafor was one of them. An average DE at best.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Not to pile on Rant, but Okeafor is pretty average. Give me a call if you want Phillip Daniels back. Whatever happened to, Engelbrener, or whatever the hell that weird name was. I though he was the Niner's other end but he kinda dissappered last year. Guest MrRant Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Notice I said "any move that improves the defense". Never said he was a star but that means you would have Cochran, Okeafor, Daniels and Eaton on the front line I believe with Brown, Simmons, Huff/Kazavenski (sp) as the LB's providing they don't draft someone else and they are looking at either another DE, DT or CB in the draft. Engleberger was a back-up last year and I think he might have been injured part of the year as well. At least Andre Carter looks like the real deal with 12 sacks last year. Guest bravesfan Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Engleberger battled an ankle injury for the majority of the season. At most times, he wasn't even near 75%. Okeafor was the one signed to replace him in the lineup, as Andre Carter locked up the other starting spot early in the year.
HurriShane 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 The Seahawks could really be contenders this year. If Ray Rhodes can turn the D around and Hassleback can continue at the rate he was playing towards the end of last year they just might have what it takes to sneak in as a wildcard team.
