PPVs available on DVD--or not?

Recommended Posts

Guest AndrewTS

I was trying to find a DVD of No Way Out 2001, and it appears it isn't available anywhere. So I ordered a used VHS of it from amazon.com.

I THINK I recall the first WWF PPV available on DVD was WM 2000, but until recently, did they only release the "big" PPVs on DVD (Rumble, WM, SurSer, SumSlam)? Lately all of the new PPVs are available on DVD, but hoped to get that one considering how awesome it sounds.

I'm kinda confused since No Mercy 2001 was available on DVD, but that doesn't seem like one of the bigger PPVs.

No Way Out 2001 was the last PPV to not come out on DVD and only be on VHS.

Austin v. HHH is on two DVDs.

Rock v. Angle is on the Rock DVD.

Trish v. Stephanie is on a Diva DVD.

WMXV was the first PPV to be released on DVD

Okay, thanks. Damn them. :P

So exactly when did they decide to start putting all the PPVs on DVD?

Backlash 2001 was the first non-big 5 show to be released on DVD

My bad...I tend to forget that XV comes before 2000, since they didn't even acknowledge the number of it. :P

BTW, what bonuses were on the WMXV DVD? I kinda avoided that WM considering how bad much of it sounded, but maybe if they threw in some goodies it would be worth it.

I thought WCW (which was still just barely around in Feb) had a lock on the MGM arena. I guess they using Mandalay Bay or something?

There are two PPV's that were before WMXV floating around - Unforgiven 1998 and Rock Bottom 1998 were released on DVD last year as part of the "Attitude Collection", along with "Three Faces of Foley", "Tables, Ladders and Chairs" and "Austin vs. McMahon", among others.

All of the DVD's are bare-bones and devoid of extras and have a video quality that's disappointing for a DVD release (aka: the transfer blows...)

Note to self: This is what happens when you don't leave the Strip.

Trust me......I have WMXV and it sucks donkey balls..........I think there arent that many older DVD's anymore because of the name change for WWE(F). If you go to the WWE website they wont have anything from WWF days. Also, Rock Bottom has pretty bad video quality with absolutely 0 extras. Has anyone seen the Hulk Still Rules DVD anywhere. Everywhere i go they only have the tape, its like the DVD is extinct now

Not only do Rock Bottom and Unforgiven 98 have no extras, they only have 1 chapter stops. It's annoying as f*ck to have to start at the middle of the PPV and fast-forward to Austin-Dude at the end.

Are Rock Bottom and Unforgiven '98 any good?

I remember watching Rock Bottom through scramblevision, but don't remember much other than that.

Rock Bottom had a decent-but-disappointing Mankind vs. Rock match, and Owen Hart vs. Steve Blackman, which was a good little match. The main event was Undertaker vs. Austin--Buried Alive. The Summerslam 98 match was far better.

Unforgiven had the shitty Kane-Taker inferno match, Owen vs. HHH for the Euro Title (decent enough match), and a kick ass Dude Love vs. Steve Austin match. Other than that, forgettable.

Isn't that when he crucified him? And I remember Austin kept having blackouts or something

Bob, while I'm on the subject, is there any DVD you know of that has the Rock/HHH Iron Man Match uncut? I can't find Judgment Day 2000 on VHS so wondering if there's another place where it is.

I do remember in 98 that Austin was crucified. I think it was on a Raw, though. Wasn't that also about the same time as the "Black Wedding?" I also seem to recall Taker about to drive a dagger through Austin's forehead while reciting the Satanic chants until Kane saved him.

Yeesh...

I don't think so TS.

Triple H's two DVDs don't have it and it's not on Rock:Just Bring It.

I think the length of the match is the reason

The Black Wedding was in '99 after the famous "Where to Stephanie" incident.

The "dagger" thing is when Taker tried to embalm Austin. It was an embalming tool. That happened in Dec. 98 on the lead up to Rock Bottom.

Not sure about the crucifixion though.

They may not have done it but doesn't mean they can't. You can fit a hell of a lot on a DVD, and you can easily fit an hour long match on one along with a ton of others.

Plus a 2-disc set of DVDs wouldn't be unlikely for one of the WWE's major stars.

The crucifixion (er, 'symbolfication') took place in 5/99, leading up to Over the Edge '99.
