Guest Brian Report post Posted April 5, 2003 From the Observer, Meltzer is saying WrestleMania was Austin's unofficial retirement. Thank you Steve for the Hollywood Blondes, ECW parodies, great mic work and stellar matches throughout your career.
Guest IB2BLACK Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Why did he come back, if he was hurt so bad?
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Report post Posted April 5, 2003 *shocked* I love Steve Austin.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 ...Well, that blows. I used to HATE the Hollywood Blondes when I got into WCW in 93 - but even when I was 12 I could tell that they were by and far more talented than any other team there at the time. Austin as a singles wrestler in WCW put on great matches with everyone from Steamboat to Steiner, Rhodes to Windham, Sting to Pillman. His run against Bret was pheonomenal. Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Why did he come back, if he was hurt so bad? To end his career at WrestleMania against his favorite opponent.
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Because he didn't know it was that bad when he came back.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted April 5, 2003 If this is indeed true, then thank you Austin, for all the memories. The effect you had on the business cannot be denied.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Whaaa? In Raw Magazine, he said he had a few good matches left in him to put over some younger talent, so he puts over Eric Bischoff (well, not exactly) and The Rock? O_o Surely there's enough gas left for an Austin/Brock match? The fans keep begging for it everytime they do one of those events where they just talk (like WM 3rd Degree)
Mrnoitaull 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 The honestly there was no point in bringing him back. I mean granted, I love Stone Cold, but they barely pushed the fued between him and the Rock as much as they could've. They pretty much pulled a "Steiner/HHH" move. But , now that I think about it, Maybe he though he could tough it out. Sorry, Austin. You took us for a ride , hope it continues, just wont be in the ring. Bored 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Now Meltzer is the most credible source out there so I have little doubt that as of now that will be Steve Austin's last match but like Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and others he will come back eventually. I can't imagine WWE won't at least try to get a final match out of him to hype. Next year at Wrestlemania XX is definently an option.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 5, 2003 So far, I'm not seeing this on other sites. Once this becomes greater public knowledge, we'll know if his source is true or not. I still can't help but laugh at how friggin' impossible it is to have Austin and 'Berg in the same building (see also Monday night)
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Well this makes the signing of Goldberg all the more pointless
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 logic says he'll be back to wrestle Benoit at Mania XX
Guest Mole Report post Posted April 5, 2003 He'll fight again, not anytime soon though. They should use him to get younger guys over, I'm for Matt Hardy, but that is just me.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 5, 2003 If this is correct he'll take a few months up to a year off and try getting in better shape. He'll then return to see how he feels and do an official retirement match if he's in the same bad shape.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I am shocked here...I didn't think it was all that serious. Damn, However, If it was his last match...They let him go in a very good way...It was very realistic... I am almost certain that we will see him again for WMXX either it be Austin/Lesnar or Austin's farewell match against Benoit. I think those are the only two guys Austin would want to end his career against...
Guest Crux Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Damn, I had no idea...well, I hope if health permits, he can come back some day in some capacity.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Yea I expect him to be back again in a few months. He isn't done yet. He'll work programs with Hogan, Goldberg, Benoit, and possibly Angle or Guerrero before he's done. Maybe he'll want to give Guerrero the ultimate rub in return for leaving him high and dry last year.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Maybe but I can see him never coming back again too...
Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I hope he can come back one more time... but how much does it suck that he goes out on the RAW after Mania... fired by Eric Bischoff. If Austin's truly giving it up, he should come out next week, give a stunner to Bischoff and then announce to the fans that he just simply can't go on... give a retirement speech, and then walk off into the sunset
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I liked the realism of that scene...He always represented the Common Man... What common man hasn't been fired like that before? It's great storytelling...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Even if he has no desire to attempt coming back full or even part time, I'd say he'll return for WMXX to give his official retirement match. I don't think Austin will do retirement Terry Funk style. Austin has made alot of money in the business and should be able to retire comfortably.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 If he knew he was fucked up...Why did he even come back? He was gone for 8 months...When did he rehurt the neck?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Speaking of Funk...Since Vince is all hell bent on Nostalgia... Might as well bring back the Funker...I'd LOVE to see him again...and Why not?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Like others have said...he probably didn't know it was that bad until he returned to in-ring action. His back was probably feeling good during his break and he thought he was in better wrestling shape then he was.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 5, 2003 So if his neck got hurt...Isn't it logical that he would suffered the same fate the summer of 02?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Who knows, but obviously he thought he was in better shape than he actually was or he wouldn't have returned. Unless he knew he couldn't go much longer and returned with the intention to wrestle his final WM.
Guest creativename Report post Posted April 5, 2003 You know what the saddest thing about this might be? That Owen Hart's primary legacy will be Steve Austin.
