Austin's last match

i personally don't hold it against goldberg for the concussion, but it is easy to see why someone would. the botched tombstone was a fluke in the career of an otherwise crisp, safe worker; the concussion to bret was indicative of a larger problem (namely, goldberg's apathy & sloppiness).

The botched tombstone was a byproduct on a match being built AROUND Owen trying to break Austin's neck. The same thing happened in a series where Shane Douglas was trying to break the neck of one of the Pitbulls. In short, you don't build a match around something like that if you can help it because focusing all the attention on that area of the body might actually lead to permanent damage of that area.

Goldberg, OTOH, botched a standard move and several others in that Starrcade match. Bret said that the way Goldberg was hitting him made Vader seem like Shawn Michaels, which is quite a statement considering how everyone pisses and moans about how stiff Vader is.

Thanks for the Memories steve.

Austin 3:16 lives on.

This sucks if it is true. I love austin, he is awsome.

If this is really the end than I'm sad. I love Stone Cold Steve Austin. He is one of my favorite wrestlers ever.

But he's had a great career and is responsible for bringing the WWF back from bankruptcy so his legacy is already there.

But I'll always remember Austin 3:16.

P.S.-What a depressing way to go out. I just hope he can be at WrestleMania XX.

Didn't Metzler confirm that WM was Angle's last match too?

Since we're learning that this was probably Austin's last match, I'd assume that he had decided on this going into the match and I'm sure the Rock knew as well. With that in mind, do you think it's that piece of knowledge that was the cause of Rock looking choked up after beating Austin, in addition to having several quiet words with Austin on the mat? That'd be my guess.

I don't think that was the kind of match that Austin deserved as a farewell. And I don't want him to stick around in an on-air position any longer if he's done wrestling.

Why's that? Looking back at it, that's probably one of the best ways he could have gone out. Ok, he didn't win, but neither did Mick Foley (I'm pretending NWO 2000 was his LAST match EVER, here) and that was one of the best, most emotional sendoffs anyone has ever gotten in WWE. Rock finally got the better of him and clean no less, which made him look good. It took three Rock Bottoms to put out Austin which made him look good and he did the whole thing after the match where the fans showered him with praise on the stage. I don't see why that was a bad sendoff, cause I think it's one of the better ones they've done.
